Cash in while we can. Be mad not to accept any bid north of 80 million.

Very poor and probably confirms the thought that he’s not a central midfielder against PL opposition. Which leaves us in a conundrum
Here's a novel thought...

Now just hear me out...

Why don't we go back to playing a system that plays our best player in his best position?

Which just so happens to have the by-product of putting 90% of the squad in their best positions too!

We went from coming 3rd and multiple finals, with mainly square pegs in square holes doing just fine. (4231)

To ETH making a senseless system change that put half of those square pegs in round holes making us worse in the process. (That god awful 41-0-41 thing)

The solution? Let's bring in a manager who wants to make the final few changes that make basically the entire first 11 consist of purely square pegs in round holes. (3421)

Hmmm, I wonder how it all went so wrong?...

Should have another thread for Bruno with the following title:

'Bruno's brain farts in European Finals'

Today: Europa League Final vs Tottenham
- Before kick-off, he won the coin toss to decide which end we would attack, and he switched us around so that we would attack the Spurs end in the second half. Why on Earth would you want to be attacking the Spurs end in the second half if you are needing a goal? (Which was what we actually needed in the second half). It would have been much more better to attack towards our own fans in the second half.
- Needlessly gave the ball away before Spurs scored the only goal of the game.

2021: Europa League Final vs Villarreal
- After the end of Extra Time the match went to penalties, and before a spot-kick was taken, Bruno won the coin toss to decide which team would take the penalties first. Bruno elected for Villarreal to go first in the penalty shoot-out, which statistically gave Villarreal the advantage, as the team that takes the first penalty in football, has a higher percentage chance of winning, around 60% (https://www.manchestereveningnews.c...ster-united-villarreal-europa-league-20691413).

Captain fantastic?
Nah, more like Captain Dipstick.

He went full Gerrard at times, and it was so disappointing to see
But again, him started deeper, in a final, to accommodate mount was something

That was a bottle job of monumental proportions in the context of his record in finals for us, the reward for winning and the season itself.

I felt a few of ours thought the win was a formality, and I think Bruno was one of the culprits.

He struggled against a flat three, but was also very casual at times.

Very disappointing, but doesn’t detract from the legitimate fact that without him, we’d probably have been in a legitimate relegation scrap.

The worst captain in United history. We are 16th on the table and he was nowhere to be found in the final tonight. He was completely atrocious and had so many misplaced passes. Yet so many United fans were glazing him.
100% agree

If the Saudi's will pay top $ for him I'll drive him to the airport

We can lose with him then we can lose without him, getting paid 100mill a year in SA... good luck to the dude, thanks for the memories.

So disappointed in him. A poor performance where he went missing at times. Seemed more interested in arguing with the ref more than actually playing football. I thought he turned the corner this season with regards to these type of performances but he reverted to type.

Dreadful game summed up by his sloppy pass for the winner.
Gave spurs their best 2 moments in the game with his poor awareness and gifting them the ball. Such a good player, but not in midfield, lacks strength, pace and focus. If that’s his role going forward, I’m fine with the club selling him and getting someone who’s a better fit.

Worst player on the field by a country mile and he's the epitome of this current United trajectory. Bruno could never play in a team that goes for major competitions because where the margins for error swing results his deficiencies in possession will continually expose his team mates.

If he slows down his pinball brain in the build up to Spurs scoring and play a simple pass, he wouldn't have lost the ball. But he's overeager to do something he lets the natural flow of the game go against him. I posted in that ridiculous legend consideration thread that the history books will not account for Fernandes in the same manner as your Scholes, Keane's etc.

Can't believe some people still think he's world class and a legend for this club. Woeful.

He had a terrible game at the worst time. He’s obviously a skilled player, and he’s saved us on more than one occasion. That said, if there truly is a big money offer on the table from the Saudis, then it’s time to cash in. He’s on the wrong side of 30 and, even if things miraculously go well with our rebuild, the timing just doesn’t work. Even if we’re back in Europe the season after next - which is very far from certain - he’ll be two years older and definitely past his prime. Not that I trust the club to spend the money wisely, but the proceeds from a sale will likely be needed to fund acquisitions. We’d miss him next year, but long term we’d hopefully be better off. The biggest mistake we could make is holding onto him for too long and missing out on a sizeable transfer fee.

Predictably shite in a huge game. This is just what he's prone to do, and it won't change now. It's as if something breaks in his head, it's all too much for him and he totally loses the plot. Couldn't even do the simple basics right.

I don't think there is a better way to put it than "he lost the plot".

His form dippped at a terrible time. If we’re honest he’s been poor in our last few games before this one. So this performance was not unexpected. Obviously the real problem here is that when he’s not on his game we’ve nobody else capable of doing what he does when he’s on form. And that’s a disaster.

Think this is probably the most sensible take, he’s been poor the last couple of weeks and unfortunately carried it over to a final where we needed him the most.

Good player but when he is out of form he has genuine stinkers. And this was a stinker.

Must be particularly tough on a big occasion when you know the whole team is relying on you.

Poor performance, still had his occasional good pass but he can’t be trusted in midfield. Messed up so many easy simple passes and at times he clearly overthinks things so delays and then loses his oppertunity.

Bigger issue was that he was leaving so much space in midfield and for someone who does a lot of running there are times when he is very slow to get back in.

Like yesterday the 2nd he lost that ball and didn’t chase back a goal for spurs was written all over it.

Just wonder where he is going to be fitted in next season. As he isn’t really ideal for midfield or one of the wide 10 positions.

Unfortunately had one of his 'try too hard' games, where keeping it simple would have better for the team..

Some good passes mixed in with absolute gross, I think the occasion may have got to him a bit.

When I saw him arguing already ten times with the referee early on, and especially never touch a ball until the 30th mins I knew that it would be a day off.

He played against us in the first half.

He just doesn't have the mind of a CM.

Amorim's fault.

He should have trusted Kobe Mainoo next to Casemiro, and play Bruno on the left.

That chance he had....how bad was that? He actually had the chance to take a touch and finish it.

I won't talk about him as a player, but he is a shit captain. He just argues with the referee whole time and then gives a shit performance. If you want to do that, then at least score like Rooney did.

Unfortunately think he’ll leave. Will be sad to see him go as he’s my favourite player. Gutted he didn’t get to lift that trophy last night, ought to have been a fitting farewell.

He was winding me up no end last night complaining about fecking throw ins going against us from about 10 minutes in, turning his back on play and taking himself out the game for a fecking throw in.

I've been really annoyed by Keane's largely unjustified attacks on him but during games like last night you can see where he is coming from.

Poor last night but we would've been relegated without him this season.

Wouldn't blame him for leaving as he's given his all the past 5 and a half years.

If he's to go then f*cking hell United need to get it right with the money

He had a poor game but our season would have been considerably worse if it wasn’t for him. Amazing how quickly people forget that.
He was absolute dog shit up until March. At that point he had 2 goals from open.

Only early March did he manage to pick up some form for a few weeks and everyone has been wanking off over how brilliant he’s been all year…give me a break.

Delusion, just look how he has carried the team in the past years. Without his goals this season, we would have been relegated. Goes through a bad patch and everyone is on his case. Will only be appreciated by some once he’s gone.

Carried us where exactly

Said it before. We’ve lost a lot better players than Bruno Fernandes

Quote me….we improve when he’s gone

To explain further….his in game management is terrible

Rabona crosses
Outside of boot crosses.
Shooting in anger.
Gifting possession in dangerous areas

(up until March 2) In the Premier League this season, he’d given the ball away every 5.3 minutes and has a meagre 2 goals from open play. But it’s ok…he runs around a lot.

It’s more frustrating because he’s clearly is a talented player.

And if he wasn’t in such a rush to progress the ball and instead showed a bit more composure, he’d probably raise his game back to the levels we saw in that first 18 months.

We'll just agree to disagree. Yesterday wasn't his best game but he's been one of best players for a while now and I certainly wouldn't expect the club to replace him properly.

Where exactly does he play for us next season? Obviously he's still with us, you start him. But if we assume we're signing Cunha and a striker, that's 2/3rds of the front 3 alongside Amad.

I don't think that deeper role really suits him as he's someone that is better influencing the game further forward. So does he push Amad to a right wing back? Again, I don't really think that's his best position.
