As one of the tens, he struggles. He's not particularly effective in tight spaces, lacks athleticism, can’t beat his man, and doesn’t have the strength to hold up play and wait for others to join the attack.
As a midfielder, he does get more freedom and space to attempt those Hollywood passes, which suits him. However, when it comes to the core responsibilities of midfield play—maintaining tempo, fulfilling defensive duties, and reading the game—he falls short.
Yes, the numbers are there to back him up, but I don’t think he fits well in Amorim’s system. His strengths don’t align with the structure and demands of this setup.
