Ordinarily I'd advocate selling a player before the decline really starts, but frankly I just don't believe we can replace him, even in the aggregate. So I'm generally opposed to letting him go.

He's our best player in a shite team but I don't give a feck if he leaves anymore, that performance was disgraceful.

Every single pass he attempted was shite, he either gave it back to them or hit it against them and got lucky with it rebounding back to him.
Every tackle he attempted was shite.
And that header was atrocious, he had time and space to bring that down and take a shot. Even if that header was on target he aint scoring from there with that.

He shouldn't have started in centre midfield anyway, it only makes sense to move him there towards the end of game when your chasing a goal so he can play deeper and cross it into the box.

Last night was probably the most important game in Bruno's time at the club, and it was arguably his worst ever performance. The occasion got to him, he spent most of the first half whingeing at the ref and trying to get Spurs players booked instead of concentrating on his own game. Just awful.

Where exactly does he play for us next season? Obviously he's still with us, you start him. But if we assume we're signing Cunha and a striker, that's 2/3rds of the front 3 alongside Amad.

I don't think that deeper role really suits him as he's someone that is better influencing the game further forward. So does he push Amad to a right wing back? Again, I don't really think that's his best position.

As the right-sided #10? Assuming that we'll sign a midfielder, too, that is. Even at SCP, i believe one of the #10s was more of a second forward, while the other was more of "a traditional" play-maker. In theory, his quality in the final pass could be used to create ISO plays for Amad, and Amad's ability to make things happen off the dribble could generate more space/time for him to pick a pass in-behind. Having said that, for these things to happen in the final third, the basis of the team has to improve tenfold. Because it's so bad, that he has to do the job of three players on the pitch (move the ball forward, create chances, score goals). And his willingness to do it all certainly enhances his hero status among the fans, but it's obviously no way to build a team.

Now that the dust has settled, can we discuss Bruno's role in this system?

As one of the tens, he struggles. He's not particularly effective in tight spaces, lacks athleticism, can’t beat his man, and doesn’t have the strength to hold up play and wait for others to join the attack.

As a midfielder, he does get more freedom and space to attempt those Hollywood passes, which suits him. However, when it comes to the core responsibilities of midfield play—maintaining tempo, fulfilling defensive duties, and reading the game—he falls short.

Yes, the numbers are there to back him up, but I don’t think he fits well in Amorim’s system. His strengths don’t align with the structure and demands of this setup.

Has @#07 posted any stats yet? Opta Joe? Whoscored? Not even squawka?

No need. We can all acknowledge Bruno had a bad game last night.

Anyway it seems likely he'll be off soon, so best I get out of the habit!

Very poor from the skipper, wasteful and back to complaining at every given chance.
For some reason I half knew that we'd lose last night as soon as Bruno began whining at the ref and trying to buy free kicks with his antics. Shows he wasn't focused and was too emotional. Back to how he was at the start of the season.

He got bullied by Spurs midfield. It's probably time to cash in while we're going to be in mid table anyway.

The knee jerk hate from one game is laughable.
One game being the defining game of our disastrous season. Failing yesterday has ruined us, no point in downplaying the truth

I won't talk about him as a player, but he is a shit captain. He just argues with the referee whole time and then gives a shit performance. If you want to do that, then at least score like Rooney did.
That instance when he went into a header at the middle of the pitch, and faked a contact from a Spurs player was embarrassing.

Yeah it’s not just one game and it’s also the manner of non performance. If he’d given his all and it didn’t work it would be forgivable. But his attitude was all wrong, for a young kid ok needs to learn but for a seasoned pro in such a big game it’s unacceptable.

I been pointing out his passing and positioning for months.

I know your a fan of Bruno, do you think his completion rate is good enough for a possession based team?

De Bruyne last season avg 83.9%
Ødegaard last season avg 86.8%
Bruno last season avg 79.6%

He was very disciplined in the first half, but his passing was still very poor.

Without the possession he was better with less single man pressing, that's what team wait for him to press and break our structure.

In the second half he was back to the same old gun-ho pressing.

Believe me there are fan (match going fans) that see him in the way I see him and I think you see him.

Lost count how many times I had a disagreement with a fellow Utd fan in a pub over Michael Carrick, even Ronaldo

He's a terrible captain in my eyes. For your leader give away 30 passes.

Playing much better in that CM role.

@Scandi Red was looking all over this thread. Has his pass completion gone up? Back 2 months it was 72% and was crap.
I really dont think is good enough for possession based football.

To explain further….his in game management is terrible

Rabona crosses
Outside of boot crosses.
Shooting in anger.
Gifting possession in dangerous areas

(up until March 2) In the Premier League this season, he’d given the ball away every 5.3 minutes and has a meagre 2 goals from open play. But it’s ok…he runs around a lot.

It’s more frustrating because he’s clearly is a talented player.

And if he wasn’t in such a rush to progress the ball and instead showed a bit more composure, he’d probably raise his game back to the levels we saw in that first 18 months.
That is a crazy stat for a player that plays in the middle of the park.

We need someone to be able to hit the 89+ progressive completion rate

If we want to get better we need to surround him by more quality and reduce the dependence on him, not get rid of him.

He's our best player. Getting rid of that for what, money we may or not spend well? Madness.

He had a bad game. It happens.

At his age, if the offer from Saudi is real, take it and take it now before they change their mind. He’s not going to be part of the next United title winners. The project is likely to take longer than that and then we’d be stuck with a 35 yr old Bruno.

He suited our previous counter attacking style. For us now I don’t think he does as a CM but he does as an attacker clearly.

I would still sell him to Saudi though

It looks like Amorim sees a long-term future for Bruno in central midfield. What really stands out is his preference for Casemiro over Ugarte in that role. Casemiro offers more composure and range on the ball, providing a steadier, more expansive presence in possession. Ugarte, on the other hand, excels off the ball.

If Bruno is to be a mainstay in the pivot, then finding the right partner becomes absolutely crucial. For me, that partner should be a deep-lying playmaker—someone who can dictate tempo, control the rhythm, and complement Bruno’s strengths without compromising defensive stability.

After watching the emotional send off that Luka Modric got yesterday from the Madrid fans, I do hope that this isn’t his last game and he goes out with a whimper. Without Bruno these past five years, it would have been even more disastrous period

Man Utd 2:0 Aston Villa
Created the first goal once again, that was a peach of an assist. I will say, though, he needs to stop shooting all the time. I swear his conversion rate must be absolutely shocking

I’m worried about our attempts to replace him. Makes sense on paper with the transfer fees being discussed, but hard to trust our ability to replace his output.

Under no circumstances should be allowed to leave the club. All talk of that internally should and must be shut down.

I do wish he would stop shooting from fecking everywhere, though.

20 assists for the season. 13 goals. He didn’t perform well in the final but he’s by far our best player.

He has to stay really. The dressing room needs a leader and a rebuild won’t be able to bring that presence immediately. We can raise enough money selling other players.

Overall, it’s been a fantastic season for him. While it was a shame we didn’t quite see the best version of Bruno against Spurs, there’s no denying how vital he’s been throughout the campaign. Without him, this team would’ve looked very different.

Looking ahead, it seems increasingly likely that Bruno will be deployed in that deeper pivot role, as I suggested earlier. That makes it all the more important for Amorim to identify the ideal partner alongside him.

Top scorer in Europa!

Top scorer for Man United in premier league.

Top scorer for Man United in all competitions!

Top scorer in Europa! - which included 4 penalties

Top scorer for Man United in premier league. Really? I mean I know there has to be a top scorer but he managed 8 goals. 3 were penalties and 2 free kicks.

Top scorer for Man United in all competitions. See above. Low bar for top scorer this year. And he padded nicely with 7 pens and 3 free kicks. He managed 9 from open play…in 57 games

First time I've seen someone claim a freekick is 'padding'.

Yeah but had he gone, we would have scored more. Garnacho would manage to dribble into the centre score more and also take free kicks.

Reckon Amad and Mount would click with the 1-2’s.
