It wasn’t limited to the Villa game. Bruno put in a lot of good performances in CM last season, and at one stage there was a recurring trend of us starting Ugarte, struggling till the 70th minute, subbing him off and moving Bruno into CM and then looking a lot more dominant and dangerous.

I’m not saying he’s perfect or doesn’t have things to sort out, but he’s definitely capable, and I think being part of a midfield 2 that has now been dominant vs Villa and Arsenal shows that.
Time will tell I suppose. I think we have veered from what I was initially referring to anyway. I don't think there is any other player in the squad who could have a word to Bruno about his performances if they warrant criticism

I dont understand your last sentence, because I was discussing why he can play there... you are the one saying the game showed he cant without any tactical discussion.

What in that game made you think.... oooo Bruno cant play CM against top oppositions?

Were we midfield dominated? No.
Did we dominate Arsenal's midfield? Yes.

So your opinion is not based on tactical information, just on you dont think it because you dont want him to play there?
In your opinion Bruno had a good game vs Arsenal?

Going to be funny when Sesko is up to speed, starting and the anti-Bruno types realise that Amorin is looking to play rather direct football, hit the attackers early, bypass the press, and that neutral possession in midfield is not really a part of that plan, at least not until they have teams defending deep. That will invariably lead to lots of ambitous passes, or hoofs, being intercepted.

Licha pinging the ball from LCB to the striker is going to be a feature if he can get in the team.
Means RA's idea of football is just longball's to the striker's ?

Of course he did. The fact you seem to find this a crazy claim highlights the ridiculous amount of criticism he gets on here and the stupidly high standards he is held to.

Some stats.

Covered the most ground of any player (10.9km)
Touches 73 (Yoro the only player, on either team, with more)
3rd most completed passes on either team (behind Yoro and De Ligt)
Second best pass completion % of any starting CM on either team
Most carries from any player who isn't in our back five
Most progressive passes of any player on either team (twice as many as the second best!)
Joint highest xAG on either team
Second most tackles of any player on either team

So yeah, he did have a good game. Obviously.

Decent stats for sure. I thought he was a bit off positioning wise, but will give him the benefit of the doubt.

Confirmation bias, isn't it. People see what they want to see but these stats give a much more objective picture.

The thing is Bruno has had plenty of poor games. He really struggled for form in the first half of last season (post Euros hangover?) so there have been performances worthy of criticism. Where this thread gets surreal is how often we get people piling in to have a go a him after objectively good performances, such as the one last Sunday. And if, God forbid, he'd been tackled, or misplaced a pass, at the beginning of an Arsenal move that ended up with a goal against us then he would be getting absolutely slaughtered. No matter how well he played in the remaining 90+ minutes.

He had a poor first half where he gave the ball away but I never watched the game and though... wow we are being dominated in midfield, Arsenal are all over us. He was there to stop it being 2-0 at the end and he also created the most chances from open play in the 1st game week, from CM.

I have broken down the game, unlike you where you dont like a player and say he cannot play against top teams when he did and we dominated the midfield.

I’m not sure what’s changed between now and the last Saudi bid that would make him consider a move.
More money on both ends, you have to assume. 2nd highest paid player in the world, and a much larger transfer fee on the bidding side.

Price is £200m, throw in Sancho, Onana, Bayindir, Malacia, Hojlund, Casemiro & Antony

Seems very unlikely the reason Bruno turned them down in June was because the money on offer wasn't enough. He just didn't want to go.

It would be very odd if he changed in his mind randomly in the last two months.

Arguably best player…but the money involved for a 31 yr old, hopefully we might have decided that actually yes, it’s time to tell Bruno he isn’t what’s needed (certainly in cm)

Great stats, unfortunately reality is, a lot of nothing. 2 stats matter, how many goals the team scores vs how many the opp scores. They didn't score a goal and you won't win if you don't score. So run around all you want, pass the ball as much as you want, (I'm sure 80% were backwards) if you don't have 3 pts at the end, then it wasn't enough!

Ah come on mate. I don't like such stats list either, because more often than not they are just picks that suit a narrative, but if you act as if only goals for and against should be used, then you aren't helping any issues in a low scoring game like football.

Those stats make sense on their own. It is only aggregators looking for items to suit their narrative that cause irritations because having some numbers isn't as much of an issue as interpreting them is.

Fulham 1:1 Man Utd
Take him off corners, pens, free kicks, and try to get this team to play without a super emotional player holding their hand.

They should have sold him if the plan was to bring in two number 10s. Up there with Bayindir as our worst players so far. Can't keep the ball and feels like his sulking affects the whole team.

Penalty misses happen even to the best. But anyone who tells you he can make do as a central midfielder, you should stop listening to anything they say about football after that. Including coaches and "structure".

Also looked like he was annoyed to be on the pitch from the start. Don't know what that was all about.

He just can't play deep midfield anywhere near as well as a more advanced role. Cunha and him want to do similar things too. Terrible team recruitment as per usual. Lots of players who are 'guaranteed' starters yet don't fit in with each other at all.

Looking forward to the stattos proving he was our best player tonight. I'm sure he has the highest XGA, tantrums per minute (tpm) and highest distance covered, or something.

It seems like he stinks it up till about Christmas every single season now.

Sick of him waving his hands about telling others what to do

Concentrate on yourself you were awful

Don't worry his fan club will come out in a couple days with a few stats that show he wasn't actually trash today.

Him fecking about with the ball in our box led to the Arsenal goal. He then missed a penalty today and failed to track Smith-Rowe for the equaliser today. It’s not good stuff

Missed the pen, lost track of Smith-Rowe for their goal. Pretty much cost us the game

What a captain we have. 30 year old who acts 20. How do you let a bump rattle you like that. Horrible central midfielder. Shouldve been subbed off but he’s seemingly not allowed to come off. Sell him please and let us reset.

Said it before and I'll say it again. Should of ran to the bank laughing when we got offered 100 million
