1. I never implied corners don't count. You specifically said: "Seeing as Bruno spent half the season playing in a midfield two, I think even 15-16 assists would be crazy."

Him playing CM for a lot of the season doesn't really matter when he got like 5 assists from that position and they came largely from corners. He could be playing CB and it wouldn't be any more impressive.

2. Yes, some do. The ones at the top don't have many assists from their corners. Thierry Henry had 2 corner assists in his 20 assists season. De Bruyne had 1 corner assist from his 20 assists season. Salah had 0 corner assists from his 18 assists season. Özil had 1 corner assist in his 18 assists season. Fabregas had 4 corner assists in his 18 assists season. David Silva had 2 corner assists from his 15 assists season. Bruno has 6 or 7 already.

3: He won't break the record. He is overperforming assists in relation to goal scoring opportunities created by a fair distance, and he has the assists because we've been on a freak season in terms of set-piece goals. It helps that we have the most deadly set-piece goal threat in the league too, although he will be gone next season.

Crazy is Haaland breaking PL goal scoring record in his debut season as a 22 (?) year old or Salah having almost 50 G+A in a league season. Hitting 15 assists isn't "crazy", especially when half of them are from corners. Harry Kane, a striker meant to finish these chances had 14 assists in a season.
Are you really arguing over which exact superlative best applies to Bruno's season?! Because it really doesn't seem an argument worth having - it just seems as though you're trying to downplay the achievement.

Re the second point, maybe all of those players should have been better at taking set pieces...

Incidentally, he's also created a huge number of changes from open play, they just haven't all been finished.

Hands down the most consistent player this league as had in years. Gets pretty much double digits for both G/A every season

Funny. I'm trying to downplay the achievement, and you're doing what to these players exactly..? Let's not pretend Bruno has been great at set-piece delivery these last few years. You could probably count on one hand the assists he has from corners before this season. I would much rather have my playmaker creating and getting assists from open play than set pieces. Surely that's not a controversial take. And if I'm downplaying it, it's because I honestly don't find it that impressive. I care much more for his improved decision making, his leadership and general play than having a bunch of corner assists.

Well, yeah, it was said rather tongue in cheek. Sorry, assumed that was obvious.

And he has been usually productive in terms of his creativity from open play, as stats show, no? It's just that the big chances he's creating aren't always finished.

I mean I am annoyed sometimes by his dramatic arms moving around.

But if you talk about how other players will feel when getting told off for making a mistake or not doing the job well enough on the pitch, they all have to deal with it at this level and actually have to improve at the same time.
Don't get me wrong, I do think they need a kick up the arse, especially for example, Cunha not passing the ball in a timely fashion or a pass being open but going for a low percentage shot, or again, a player in a better scoring position being ignored, that's the time for giving out.

But he needs to mix it up, a mental lift with a mix of a bollocking. But I get concerned when it's constant whinging.

I will give him props though, when a player scores a goal, he is like a proud dad.

Wild that there was a time people wanted him
Sold, when really he’s one of those irreplaceable names.
Agreed we need to improve the team but selling the jewel of the crown is crazy

He's the best player in the league this season, don't think anyone else comes close tbh.
There’s been a push to get Rice the POTY but his form has dipped recently. Despite what some people have argued in this thread Bruno has had a good season as BOTH a CM and a 10. Hes had a few bad games here and there in both roles but mostly he’s been excellent.

To me he should win it but I’m biased I admit.

Despite being played out of position for most of the season, Bruno has been brilliant this season. For his safety and for the sake of United, I hope he's not a part of the Mexico-Portugal match in Mexico City on March 28.

Re-reading it, it was quite obvious, sorry about that. I always have a singular brain cell left after these long, late evening shifts.

He probably has, but to be honest, I don't know how to check from open play, not sure any websites I know of can filter that out. I feel like we need to have a team that tries to win against us for him to be effective. If they're happy with a draw and sit back, then he often struggles to get into games, or only gets going in the second half. Sometimes that's a bit too late.

If he has a bad game or doesn't start, we're almost guaranteed to drop points. If he has a good game, we're almost guaranteed to win. And when he's somewhere in-between, he'll still create something more often than not.

Ah you poor thing - shift work ain't fun! My sympathies. Get a beer in ya, or some sort of zero alcohol equivalent!

I know what you mean - he's often more effective when teams come out to play against us as opposed to sitting back, as is the rest of the side. I also think sometimes that those sorts of sides really set out to stifle/marginalise him specifically which should, you'd have thought, give us space in other ways to capitalise on but it doesn't always materialise. We simply aren't clever enough at playing through sides yet. We've shown flashes but need to be more consistent at it.

If Arsenal win the league I think Rice most likely on to win it , but if they don't and Bruno and Utd have a strong end to the season he will be right in the mix for it.
Nah feck Rice, I'd say Gabriel has been better overall for them anyway.

Has to be premiership POTY in fact for me I don’t see how he hasn’t been it every single term he’s been in the UK. #BuildTheStatue

Typical HEADLESS CHICKEN...

(Luckily I have dark mode  )

Top notch productivity, brilliant passes and an unreal injury record naturally steal the headlines, so Bruno's movement off the ball (not just in terms of pressing) is not given enough credit. He's genuinely world class at it.

Agreed. Seems to have an extra couple of lungs, unreal stamina and also smart with it.

Newcastle 2:1 Man Utd New
Shocking, just shocking. When results go in our favor his scattergun approach gets masked. Player capable of reaching the highest of highs, and lowest of lows.

Hollywood Bruno is back and you can never have control or play dominating football with him and Casemiro as part of 3.

He created all our best chances. You can’t blame him when Casemiro and Mainoo are physically awful, and Shaw plays like a pensioner. Get him some proper midfield partners.

Thought he had a bad first half but man that second half was amazing. The amount of chances he created was astonishing.

Also created several clear cut chances that should’ve been certain goals almost every game he plays. Stats don’t tell the whole story, but for Bruno he is carrying us massively. Ain’t his fault Yoro missed a simple point blank header.

He played some amazing balls into the box today and probably should have had three assists.

On another note, whenever he becomes the sole chance creator it usually shows that we’ve run out of ideas and are playing incredibly shite as a team.

Our best games are when the whole attack is engaged and popping the ball around.

Just him and Maguire any good tonight. Some of those final balls were class.

How the feck was he bad? Made all our chances, was a one man midfield when Casemiro went off. One accidental collision for a penalty doesn't change that. I swear some people just see things that they want to see.
