OK, so this was just the precursor to him actually getting a new extended (and upgraded) contract according to some outlets. He's 32 soon and he has 1+1 left on his 300K deal. Just like last time, there is no need to do this.
Usually 2 years to go is when you either sell or sign a new deal. I’d offer another 3+1 personally on close to 350k/week with bonuses for league finishes.
Why? Because Galatasaray might try to sign him? When Liverpool gave Salah that contract after he entered his 30s I said at the time it was the wrong move. They could have cashed in then. He proceeded to have one great season and then rapidly declining. Whilst I don't think Bruno will decline that rapidly, I'd be surprised if he's at the same level in two years time. And he's already the highest earner (Rashford aside). There is just no need to upgrade his deal. We can just see what he's like in a year's time and make a decision then.

I see there is talk of him getting a new deal and possibly 400K a week. A reminder that he's turning 32 soon. I don't know if the club leadership are bonkers or if this is meant to facilitate signing Tchouameni on a huge contract and making sure Bruno doesn't feel slighted.
Bruno have gave a lot for this team. Yeah he will be 32 soon, but is not like he will be getting a 5 year contract and we are not planning to sell him for a profit or anything. So a 2+1 years contract at 400k is deserved for the premier league player of the 2026 season. Plus he has a release clause, this contract my remove that.

Salah got the 2 year contract extension at the end of his last good season, in April 2025. He was then so bad after the extension (which was this season) that they cut the contract short, thankfully for them Salah was happy to do that because he didn't like the manager so wanted to leave anyway. Usually the player would sit and collect their wage till the end.

Pay him what he wants and give him a 12-month rolling contract, United had a policy under Fergie not to offer a player aged 30 or over more than a 12-month contract. If he's good enough, there'll be no issues extending it every 12 months.
The Salah example is a clear case of the perils of being foolish enough to give players at that age contracts of any longer length. Their form can collapse and yes Bruno is our captain, deserving to be looked after. But if it was good enough for Scholes and Giggsy then it should be good enough for him too.

I agree that we should t be putting g older players on long contract worth a fortune, but you need to give a player like Bruno more than 12 months, provides no security, which he can get elsewhere.

Giving a 32-year-old a long-term contract is ludicrous. At most I would say a one year deal with an option of a further year, to be activated if a certain amount of appearances are made or goals are scored during the first year.

I love him and hes our only wc player but I agree. At 32 you can't offer more than a year's extension. Legs go at any time and hes put a lot of miles on them.
It would be typical of us to extend for 3 years, then his legs go and we are stuck with a very expensive crock for a couple of years like Salah last year. We still have 2 years left for him, that takes him to 34
I just read his contract doesn't expire until next summer and United have an option to extend it by another year into 2028 - why would they be offering a new contract now? He's a contracted United player until he's 34.
I would just trigger the extra year now as a show of loyalty. At 34 he will probs be in a sharp decline I would imagine.

Like I said, the only logical reason I can imagine for the decision makers upgrading him to 400K is if they know they are bringing in a player who will earn about the same, and it is understandable that they'd want to give Bruno parity or keep him as the best paid player at the club. I think we shouldn't give him more than guaranteed two years, with an option if he does get an extension. The Salah example is crystal clear.

Why do we bother to extend his contract? He has his current contract AFAIK till 2027, and plus 1 more year as always, so it is up until 2028, 2 more years. More than enough imo, in summer 2028 he will be almost 34 and he can leave for free and go to Middle east or USA and enjoy his luxury retirement.

I can see why we dream of that scenario, and it is not implausible that it could happen, but we havent been as lucky with getting Saudi money as most other clubs so far.

He'll turn 32 in September so will be interesting to see if he's still capable of playing all the time with European football coming back. Personally I hope he doesn't and that Mount starts playing more often, of course if he can manage to stay fit.
I never liked club being unreasonable and giving huge wages and long term contracts to 30 + year old players, but with Bruno I think he deserves wage increase and contract until 2029 for example. Not just for everything he's done over the years, but also because I feel it'll be possible to sell him even when he's 34.
