Personally I think we would be a much better balanced team playing a 4-3-3, which means not having an out-and-out #10 like Bruno.
I expect our wide players would enjoy more success with more space in the central areas for them to roam into. And I think a true 3-man midfield would allow us to control games and provide better cover for marauding FBs.
It comes down to midfield shape. In a 4-2-3-1, your CMs cant as readily afford to be dragged out wide or to really get involved in the attack. Further, it requires those two players to have a much more complete profile. I prefer the 4-3-3, with the dedicated holding player and two 8s with license to roam and get forward.
Thats the "system" side of it, the other side is simply that Bruno is completely incapable of playing the easy passes and just retaining possession. Every time he gets on the ball he wants to create something. Thats noble, and its something a lot of people likely look at and say "Great!". I say that the truly exceptional players understand when there is an opportunity for them to do it all themselves, but also when to play it safe, when to trust a teammate etc. Bruno gets away with it because on his good days, he contributes - but as we saw against Hull, on his bad days he is really bad because of the way he plays. If he was capable of balancing his instinct to always look for the killer pass, with a bit more game intelligence, he would be a better player for it and we would be a better team for it.
