Bruno Fernandes | 2026/27 Performances

It seems to be a stab in the dark because he's been great whilst we've never challenged during his time here.

I genuinely don't think anybody else in the squad finishes his equaliser on Sunday. He did it on his weaker foot.

And I think as he ran through we were all fairly confident he'd at least make the keeper work.

If that was Sesko running through would any of us have been particularly confident he would score? Or that even his first touch would have been good enough?

Probably only Cunha that you could say to have the touch, control, speed, and that kind of finishing.

Bruno is perfect for 433 what on earth are you talking about?

I'm not talking about that poster in particular, but people online go into neurodivergent overdrive when it comes to formations. They get completely lost in the details. In reality the difference between 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 can be marginal and some managers expect a certain level fluidity anyway, so it doesn't really matter all that much. And as always: the formation shown on the screen before kick-off isn't necessarily the truth. The club only provides the players starting, not the formation.

Of course Bruno can play in a 4-3-3, unless there is a weird stipulation that demands elite dribbling from the two most advanced midfielders.

Someone just cracked the code. It’s Bruno holding us back on winning trophies. If only we sold Bruno years ago, we could have Iniesta Mk-2 playing for us already.

I mean, just look at the midfield revamp INEOS has done so far.

The year is 2032. We've just seen the emergence of a new Class of 92', signed multiple world class players and found a modern version of Fergie. Bruno Fernandes limps onto the pitch to lift the PL trophy despite barely playing. 99% of United fans watching get misty-eyed. Then 1 random guy in the corner blurts out: "See! I told you he was the problem!"

Bruno of the past 12 months is world class. He hasn't always been this good.

Agreed.

Bruno made 65 passes, only 7 below Tielenmans; and 86% passing accuracy. He’s the 3rd player with the most passes in the team, below Martinez and Tielemans. Meanwhile, the likes of Cunha and Mbeumo made 21 and 25 passes respectively.

It’s kinda obvious that Bruno’s role isn’t similar to Cunha and Mbeumo, but closer to Tielemans as a 3rd midfielder.

Honestly, if we look at the heat maps, number of touches and number of passes, it becomes very clear that Bruno hasn't played as a "typical no.10" since the the 2021-22 season. Even now under Carrick I don't think he looks like a typical no.10. At least not the way some people in this thread describe it. He doesn't spend most of the game lingering 10-15 yards behind the CF while waiting for the ball. He's usually in the middle of the action and he often drops deeper than both CMs.

Understood

He needs to be higher up the pitch.

Which leaves us with the same two as we have now which isn’t enough and we get ran through.
433 works perfectly for having him higher up the pitch, you can run the 433 where he is an attacking midfielder behind the striker and the other 2 in the midfield sit behind him.

Number 10s aren't perfect for a 4-3-3. The role requires him to move him away from his strengths and lean more towards his weaknesses. Just not ideal at all.
Ive spent the last 2 seasons running a 433 with the team I coach, we have a player similar to Bruno (of course a significantly lower level) and its worked perfectly. There are a couple of ways of using the 433, one is with having 2 central midfielders and an attacking midfielder (perfect for Bruno) ans the other being 1 def midfielder in front of the back 4 and 2 more attacking midfielders in front.
Weve run both during both season depending on the opposition.

Very poor. Didn't create anything and was a complete passenger in midfield. As has been the case for most of his United career, when you need control, you simply won't get that with him.

hit the bar but other than that, wasn’t really there today.

Was very poor. Lack of concentration at times and some very mixed passing. Nothing new really, he will hit an amazing 50 yard pass which he did do today, but then also give the ball away continuously when needing to pass to someone 10 yards away. If it’s not that he is passing it into someone putting them in trouble with a poor quality pass.

Not sure if he hates Mbeumo or not but always seems to give him really poor passes then moans at Mbeumo when he hasn’t controlled that ball that he fired in at knee height whilst Mbeumo has someone on him

Rolling around on the half way line for what felt like an eternity while we are under the kosh and it's clear they were not going to put the ball out. It's not like he didn't get up and walk normally. The best and worst of Bruno in the last week.

It’s shit like that that makes me never want to watch him play sometimes. Infuriating

The camera showed where tarkovsky’s studs had ripped a hole in his sock. Footballers are allowed to be injured. Unless fans have agendas against them anyway.

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Had an absolute mare today. Pass after pass given away.

So 1 good game out of 3 in matches so far. Dropped points in the other 2 with no control or urgency in midfield. He does not have the consistency to be the central cog of a top team. The staying down was the opposite of what you want from a captain- fair enough exaggerating a bit so the ref takes notice but after that get up and at least help your team mates. No leadership to help us see out games we should be winning.

He should have been the one coming off and not Mainoo..we needed control in the midfield, and he doesn't offer that..but again he's the only player in United's history who is unsubstituteable, so we just have to accept it.

It's weird to say given he already has 3 and an assist, but it's not been a great start to the season for Bruno.

Never understood why managers just refuse to ever sub him. Hes not Cristiano Ronaldo, some times it’s the right play especially if he’s tired.

Should've been subbed around the 75th minute. I know he can produce something out of nothing but he's such a liability sometimes.

Weird player sometimes. Such high standards for himself and drags the team along with him, but then finds it okay to roll around the floor, when it's obvious the referee won't give him anything. We could've well conceded while he had his tantrum. It's just...strange.

Needs a better performance against City next week.

I can understand leaving Bruno on for the whole game if we're chasing a goal because he can create a chance out of nowhere, and we need to take risks.

But there's got to be a scenario if we're a goal up with 5 or 10 mins to go, that we're willing to bring Bruno off and being on a third midfielder to close the game out. He was a passenger today.

Amen. There’s nothing worse than agenda posters. The kind who would have an issue unless their favorite did it.

That was a red.

Not at all, it was a foul, maybe a yellow.

Tiny graze and a hole in his sock, get up ta feck and play on. Lying there was ridiculous, like that time De Gea lay down on the goal line when Arsenal scored. Just expected the game to be stopped.

Absolutely poor today

And you can tell when it’s not his day because he starts crying about everything on the pitch and loses his focus. Good job Keane wasn’t a pundit today

I've never had a big issue with Bruno himself. I have an issue with the fact that we play almost exclusively through him, so if he's having stinker, it affects the whole team, and the manager never takes him off. This means bar a moment of magic, which he's well capable of having by the way, we don't have any other hope of winning on such days.

He's human, if he's having a bad game, he should be subbed like any other player.

He can have a bad day without shirking the midfield duties and his body language going s***. He’s only the captain of Manchester United.

We need to normalize taking Bruno off when we are defending a one goal lead. He sometimes can't help play high-risk passes that give easy turnover to the opposition. We could have probably done better attacking and defensive wise if we had taken him off, for say, Santos around 60 minute mark and pushed Tielemans as the #10.
