Bruno Fernandes Out? | Staying at Man United

I swear we're in the worst position ever. The few actual football players we have are the only ones we can expect to realistically sell. And Bruno is one of them. I hope he doesn't go, or if he does is to some proper European side so we can at least see how good he can be when not surrounded by whatever we have here.

We look like selling:

Antony - will have a few interested after an incredible loan. Interesting to see how he performs in the final now.
Rashford - think his PsG performance will ensure us of a buyer
Garna - 20 yr old top talent, will get us big money
Onana - who knows what we’ll get

I don’t think we’d need to sell Bruno to raise cash.

Our best player since Fergie left. But, if Saudi come calling at that price, you cash in. He's 31 and declines can be steep. Maybe not, but from a club business POV, it makes sense.

So you don’t want us to buy any players this summer then?
We have £100 million to spend apparently plus sales

Rashford £40 million
Sancho £25 milion
Garnacho £60 million

Even with that I doubt we will be spending over £200 million

Has anyone remotely reliable said there is an actual bid from Saudi?

The only way Bruno is sold is if Kobbie transitions into the current Bruno role.

I know he is a different player, but they are meant to occupy the same space. A Bruno and Kobbie pair will never happen, they both need a true cdm next to them. So yah. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was sold and Kobbie gets the keys to the shop. It’s not bad business either.

Now, if the team can theoretically push for top 6 thus bring in the right players (front three, most likely one more CB defo a GK) without loosing Bruno fine. Realistically though, the guy will be 33 before we can start talking about competing again if all things go well. We don’t have Europe, we don’t have the right team he’s a rolls Royce amongst Datsuns right now.

But he also doesn't have a place in Amorim's system. United need to use PSG as a blueprint with the current trajectory of the squad reformation. They don't have a maverick in the team but a corroboration of players who allow the team to be more cohesive in and out of possession.

Bruno has played the majority of this season across the front three and no one will convince me that a Mbuemo for instance wouldn't offer more in contrast to the practicalities of the managers system. The problem is fans are looking at it in isolation as opposed to the teams function to succeed. Is Mbuemo a better player than Fernandes? No, but the attributes Mbuemo has is more rudimentary to what Amorim's system requires. So it comes down to who fits the task at hand more than who's got the abundant quality.

If Iraola hypothetically was in charge and the team was playing a 4-2-3-1 or 3 man midfield variation I would easily comprehend the insistence to keep Bruno on the basis of his position and contribution. But Bruno didn't look as good when Erik was using him out wide on the right, though Ten Hags system used wingers the responsibility of the wider 10's and wingers both cater to one of Fernandes primary weaknesses which is ball progression.

At 31 next season then club should make the move. The common notion I hear on this forum is necessary change, squad development etc no one can mention these things but then ascribe to keeping Fernandes. He's got to go on the premise of the managers system.

I don't think that's happening. We need specialists - say a Jorginho / Ruben Neves / Partey / Xhaka type player at CM. They are half the players that Bruno is but it's enough at CM.

Yep, this. Negotiate for 100m, let him go, sign a DLP and an Mbuemo and be done with it. I absolutely adore the guy but if we're stuck on Amorim (or the 3-4-3) then rip the band aid and get it done. Don't listen to Amorim for the love of god because he wants to keep Bruno to give himself the best chance at a good season.

Agreed

100M for a 31 years old is too good to refuse. We need funds for rebuild. I think we should sell and invest in younger player.

If funds from his sale can contribute massively to acquiring Mbuemo and Wharton (or a combination of similar profile of players for similar fees), we should sell him.

I think he’s the only one really who’s consistently have been passionate about United. There might be a few others, but not as important and pivotal as him.

Only if we can’t sell a lot of the others you sell a guy like that. He’s what has kept us going for many years.

Yeah IF we can sell the others is the big question then of course I would very much want to keep him

We need to be reasonable and sell. 30 year old, not a CM and not physical enough to adapt imo, inconsistent and bottom line not that good to build around, awful captain and no leader to rely on. Best solution is to sell and rebuild.

It’s a no brainer take the £84m and pay off some of the remaining transfer fees we owe.

About time this club starting getting its house in order, we could potentially clear what we owe with sales this summer.

I do think there will be suitors to Antony and Garnacho at least. Onana should be getting us maybe 15-20m too.

There's something really offputting and awful about modern football, where everything is about money and everyone's being a mercenary - Bruno has stuck with us during bad times and it's just a rare thing these days. Just for that reason alone it would feel weird to sell such a player. And to a club all about the same thing. Maybe I'm a romantic when it comes to United, but making Bruno leave feels slightly like having Totti go to Real Madrid back in the day. It just doesn't sit right, after all he's done for us.

Selling him would be absolute disaster. Especially in this moment where we have only 4 or 5 players who are good enough.

This is our 'Coutinho' moment - sell arguably our most talented player but use the money to improve the unit as a collective.
Slightly different in my opinion.

Coutinho was 25 and in his prime with 5-7 years of service left for Barca.

Bruno is 31 in September.

If we good get £100m for Bruno - and spend it wisely - it’s really a no brainer

The 'spend it wisely' is the part that makes it a big dilemma.

I think for the majority of clubs in our position - going nowhere fast and in need of a major rebuild - cashing in on a 30 something for big money makes a lot of sense, even if it is the club's most important player. It's not so much of an open goal if we don't spend that money correctly though, I think the likelihood would be more Tottenham with the Bale money than Liverpool with Coutinho money.

I'd still sell even for £80 million. Cunha will replace him at LAM,

Then if we can use the money to bring in Mbeumo and 2 good central midfielders the team will be much better.

It is almost a mental discussion, it would be ridiculous to contemplate hanging on to any other player his age for a bid north of £100m let alone £150m, and yet his age is not so much of a factor.

Contemplating selling Bruno if he wants to stay just doesn't even seem worthy of a second thought, his stats since we bought him are up there with the best of the best.

But the big unknown is how good would Bruno be in a functioning team?

The price tag is really the only temptation, we could bring in multiple players for losing one, which would help improve the team over all, but I just do not see it, as a single player he is pretty irreplaceable, and lets face it if we tank next season too, without Bruno saving us we are going to get relegated

This place cracks me up.

- After the EL semis: “never sell Bruno!!”
- After EL final: “Get rid of Bruno!”
- After Villa: “keep Bruno!”

Honestly our fan base is so bi-polar - we’re as dis-functional and inconsistent as our squad planning

I also think it is time to move on, and as captain his leadership was an issue

Always was and am a Bruno fan.
He's one of the very few who gave all for the United shirt.

Great character and a great player. Wouldnt want us to sell him and we need stability, if we sold him however i would try and look on the bright side and see it as a new beginning. Yesterday was a perfect example of Bruno, marshalling the team one minute then the next hes spanking 6 shots from outside the box and they are all off target. Then has a moment of class and sets up Amad with a beautiful pass in behind to get the winning goal.

He is 31. His form could drop of a cliff, he has a lot of miles on him and plays nearly every game, he is one big injury away from a decline.
This is true. It might be the right time to move on from Bruno. It will be odd without him and we’ll lose so much without his contributions, but the money would help with the rebuild. Anything upwards of £80 million has to be considered.

If he stays, then I’d be fine with that also.

Bruno as midfield 2 just wont work. If we are not planning to play him in front 3, then its better to cash out and invest in proper CM. Going into next season with Casemiro and Bruno as main 2 in midfield is going to end badly for Amorim

That’s De Gea. No player reached the level he did post SAF. Bruno comes after that.

He’s been really good this season but we have think long term. I’d prefer keeping him as he’s the only evidently high quality we have however I’d definitely listen to offers given his age depending on how Amorim sees him fitting in.

Or, it could be different people saying those things.

The club is making the same mistake it has made for the past decade or more. Failing to cash out on players when we have a chance, and holding onto them on massive wages past their prime, when we won't be able to give them away.

It'll be a f**king disaster. I don't know how people don't see it.
