Look, to all those saying we should just pay the extra 10 mill. and get it done - in some cases it is the right thing to do.

Dybala in the summer would be a good example of that. If 10 mill. was all that stood in the way of us getting him it would be a no brainer.

But this is a 25 year old from a much worse league, where he basically got the whole team constantly giving him the ball if he doesnt have it, or running forward when he does have it. It is just the same service Sanchez got at Arsenal.

In addition to that, no other of the big clubs are looking at him , and we can all agree that United’s scout apparatus isnt amongst the finest.

We are taking a huge gamble on him because with the current injuries we have, our CL participation next year, and the enourmous implications it has for the future of our club, is at risk.

And when you take such a gamble you really dont want to overpay.

Just imagine for a second what would happen to the manager, the board, Ed and our standing/reputation as a club (which is already crap) if he was a total flop.

And it is no secret that Sporting is in dire straits financially, so why wouldnt we take advantage of that? Sporting knows that every players future is uncertain, both in terms of his output, but also his morale if they denied him the transfer of his lifetime.

Just because half of the fanbase had a Pamela Anderson crush on him last summer doesnt mean the club feels they got something to prove this time.

We would just repeat the mistakes of post SAF by overpaying for a risky deal that have quite some probability of failing.

And it would also mean that all other teams would see that we are still in the business of bending over backwards to overpay massivly.

Or on the flip side, he’s a classy midfielder who can score, has a winning mentality and is what we’re lacking.

Yeah, because all players tearing it up in other leagues does the same in a new team in a harder league right?

Just wondering. Is there anything the guy could do in the Portugese league that would mark him out as a decent player? Or does playing in Portugal automatically render you shit?

He is the type of player we need, we are like a lion with good sharp front teeth, at the back we also have some good teeth. However we need to grow another one at the back. In the middle we have really only got a couple of teeth, one of which is the best tooth but is likely to be pulled very soon as it has become septic.. Many of our middle teeth are false teeth and should be replaced, one tooth in particular is in need of a major filling and looks better to be pulled, as it has not taken part in any chewing action over the last year.

That's a fantastic analogy:)

My point isnt if he’s good or not, he almost certainly is.

But will he be good enough in a completly different team and completly different league to justify a £60 mill. gamble?

For what it's worth, I think he will fight for the shirt more than Sanchez or Dybala would have been at Utd. Supposedly very eager in the high press, which fits right in.

Ah to be young again. Now we have old farts complaining about these happy go lucky guys when half of them indulged in some hardcore muppetry 5-10 years back if you go through their history of posts...

I wish I still had that time, excitement, naivety and wonder.

Its not that the Portuguese League is shit (its not), its that he is 25 years old, at this stage he should already have left the Portuguese League. The fact that he is good is expected. If Sporting wants to kling on to him, let them, there are other AM targets out there.

I think that's very possibly what we could end up with. Are we happy with that? I would be. Fred or McT to start? I'd say Fred has the edge at the minute. Pogba to leave obviously.

Why would you play Fernandes there? I'd be surprised if James was starting ahead of Greenwood by end of the season.

I don't think we'll get Maddison unless we pay crazy money, like almost Coutinho money, and i dont think he's worth that. Would rather try and unsettle Ndidi

I'm sure we'd make it work.

If we do sign them both this window (which is unlikely if we're being honest) then we can safely remove Periera from the equation as he will most likely be frozen out and/or sold. The same applies to Matic and Lingard I'd imagine.

Woodward is playing fans like a fiddle. Feigning interest only to pull out because Sporting "negotiated in bad faith" or "agent was a scumbag" or some other imaginary excuse, and we won't sign him in the end.
