Bruno reportedly earlier in the summer said that he was happy at United

But, he has a €57m release clause for teams outside of the PL. so we could lose him easily enough if we don’t meet his expectations

We know that he talked up the merits of signing MF to the club

Could be start to become unsettled? Or maybe as captain he gets told more than we do so he’s calm. Or maybe he has just shut himself off from all United news until after the WC

If his head is not turned by Saudi riches last summer I think he will still be happy to play at least another season for us. Still it is certainly concerning that our club seems to be wholly unprepared for Spurs to be so aggressive in the market.

I mentioned in a different thread about the new contract negotiations, that it'll all come down to how ambitious we are in this transfer window. If we don't improve the squad enough to take it to the next level, I think he'll ask his agent to put feelers out to PSG, Bayern, etc.

I honestly think he's focused on the WC and isn't worrying anywhere near as much as the wet blankets on this forum, if at all. Certainly not enough to suddenly start looking abroad for a new club.

There are very few teams that would be willing to pay him what we do outside of SA anyway. People talk about Bayern and PSG, but I haven't seen any real links to them, and I also don't think he fits their recent recruitment strategies either.

At the moment people are making a crisis that just isn't there and projecting their own feelings into guessing how Bruno must 'feel'.

We are signing midfielders. Probably really good ones. Relax.

Probably happy we're signing Ederson

When news of that release clause was first mentioned last year it was said that it had to be triggered early in the window. So it might have already passed, or it will very soon.

I wouldn't be concerned about it.

Bayern did sign a lesser player in Dias at a similar age for comparable money. Mane too.

Agree with the overall point of your post though. Quite surprised to see some usually level headed posters completely lose it

This thread is based on historical examples, for example when Rooney became unsettled as we went through the phase of “no value in the market”. These top players are ambitious and want the club to prove they are too. It’s not a totally out there thought.

Possibly even 100s of them, so many midfielders, so so many, so many good ones too, we won't know what to do with them. People will say, we have so many good midfielders, we don't know what to with them, and they'd be right.

Agreed. There is absolutely no guarantee we’ll have a strong summer transfer window at this rate. We missed out on our top 2 targets and there is no guarantee either Scott & tchou will move or the clubs will sell. The options of top quality midfielders is growing slim. I genuinely don’t know what the plan is here. We might end up with Berge & amrabat at this stage

Being back n the CL probably sealed it
I wouldn't necessarily say it has, if we don't match his ambitions with the players we bring in, I think he'll look to move elsewhere.

Our problem is this isnt an issue we can throw money at, he's already turned down more than we'd ever offer from Saudi.

He wants to win titles, if that isn't going to be on the cards next season, I think he'll look to move elsewhere.

So you think Bruno is having the same muppet meltdown as some of you lot are?

No.

There’s no need to create drama for yourself. You’ve been through world cups before? Takes a bit more time.

Just let it play out.

Rooney
is his attempt to leave United in the wake of the 2010 World Cup, when Manchester City were suitors and he was unhappy with the direction United were heading.

Not only did Rooney confront legendary manager Ferguson at the time, but 12 years on he remains adamant that he knew the club were on the decline - and when the boss worked out the same, he immediately jumped ship.

'They were offering me a contract of £200,000 a week, so it would have been quite easy for me to say, "five years, £200,000 a week... let me sign it now",' Rooney says. 'It would have been quite easy for me to do that. But I wanted success on the pitch - that means more to me.

'Actually, if you look five years down the line from that meeting - Alex Ferguson knew where the club was going and he got out of there as quick as he could, and they're still picking up the pieces now.'

We’re back in the CL and both club and player seem happy with him continuing, so it’s highly unlikely he’s going anywhere.

He's in no way thinking about United right now.

In any case, Bruno isn't like us that are sitting on a forum everyday waiting for transfers. He's going to go on vacation after this World Cup and probably trusts what the board has told him.

Sir, Spurs have spaffed big money on another midfielder who runs around a lot.

Players do not think as obsessively as fans on the internet, they are not constantly F5ing threads and texting Wilcox to ask why we haven't signed 5 players yet.

Why would Bruno be thinking of anything other than trying to win the World Cup, the pinnacle of world football.

Agreed, but his agents and surrounding confidants will, and come WC end it may be surfaced.

No transfer muppet, but I'm not worried. Up to the club to deliver. If they don't, and he decided to make a Harry Kane move I wouldn't be mad at him

There was never any guarantee the club would have a strong summer window. We all hoped for it, as the club will have planned for it, but there's so many variables they can't control. We have to wait for it to actually end and then judge it.

I don't think we did miss out on our top 2 targets. I think Anderson obviously was the top target, and then Fernandes was seen as an alternative when it became 100% he was going to City. I also wouldn't class MF as 'top quality', he's still young with a lot to prove. I don't think the club saw him as a player you could play week in and week out alongside Mainoo. I think their top 2 targets were Anderson and Tchouameni.

We'll sign players, the squad needs the numbers. Will they be the exciting names the people on here are calling out for? That's looking more unlikely, but hopefully they'll at least be young and good enough to keep improving us in the seasons to come.

Also, Berge is a good player and would instantly improve our midfield profile, so I don't know why people are turning their noses up at that. He'll be too expensive at his age though, so it won't happen. We should have signed him when Fulham did

I think he'll be fine and insulated from it for now as he's still at the WC. If he comes back and we've not materially strengthened, I can see him starting to get annoyed and who knows what that means.

Why what’s happening?
It was reported months back that Bruno wants to stay but was seeking assurances about our 'ambition'.

We've just seen a couple of targets complete moves to other clubs, after briefings that we found them overpriced. This has made people worry that this is going to be more of a frugal summer than an ambitious one.

I still feel like this one will catch fire after the World Cup. His release clause means he’d be the signing of the summer for any team.

Getting into the CL helps, but none of us are under any illusion that we’re actually expecting to compete there. He could easily move to Real and get CL every year and probably even win it once or twice before his time is up. He will definitely be thinking about these things, and I’m sure there’s plenty of clubs in his ear already.

Last season felt like the perfect way for him to go out here really. Player of the season, record breaking season for assists and helped us achieve CL.

Don’t forget how he spoke out against the club during the season, something that probably still doesn’t sit well with him. Not to mention all the fans who wanted him sold. They might just get their wish and they can witness the reality of how good we are without him.

To be honest, this sort of statement is only valid with the benefit of hindsight. We just attracted Robin Van Persie from Arsenal. If reports/rumours are to be believed, we had plans to bring in Toni Kroos only for Moyes to back off from it because he wasn't entirely sure. If Sir Alex didn't retire so abruptly as he did, I'm pretty sure he would have been building the next great team and we would not have been fecking around in the transfer market with the many costly mistakes we've made since.

Don’t agree with that but respect your opinion. I think we need to do better than Berge if we have ambitions to move forward.

Make of what? He’s still in the World Cup and Utd are in the CL. It’s early in the transfer window and we’ve basically signed one midfielder already and are in the process of strengthening further, I’m sure he’s buzzing!

He's probably thinking calm the feck down RedCafe, it's only July.

Will this hysterical reaction because we didn't Mateus fecking Fernandes stop soon?

The "lean years" had already begun under his watch. By 2013, the squad's quality had dwindled to a shadow of the 2008 team, which was the strongest he had assembled during his tenure here. Even the RvP transfer was more reactive than proactive, as City were already very strong and wanted to move further ahead from the competition by signing RvP that summer. SAF was our difference maker, not the overall quality of the team, but the noisy neighbours had become big players, and eventually even SAF had to do something about it.

He’ll be absolutely fine. We’ve already signed one player and improved our squad by bringing back an attacker who immediately improves us. I think that’s a great start!

I think he would be looking at how we're starting this preseason after all these years post his joining with no quality midfield partner beyond Mainoo, and no striker up top beyond Sesko. And I think he'd be wondering, why has this club which says I'm their best player, catastrophically ignored the two parts of the pitch that elevate my skills? I have just broken the PL assists record, so why hasn't this club built around me? Why is it still not building around me?
