Two players for the same role? Fekir is a decent goal getter himself, usually good for double figures.

It makes no sense to get both at all. I also dont relive United is interested in Fekir.

I agree on both points, Fekir is only mentioned as the question was asked over which suited United's current needs better. In truth I don't think we are looking at Bruno Fernandes either to be honest, I could definitely see him in the PL though given the money and ambition clubs like Wolves, Everton and even Leicester are showing in the market these days.

I think United have an eye on him but I believe that if they keep Pogba they won't dish out the money Sporting want. IF they sell Pogba to Madrid or Juve then I think Bruno might be the first name on the table for that midfield role.

I could be wrong but I think if we lose Pogba we'll ditch the 3 man midfield and go for more of a 4-2-3-1, allowing for the RW the Caf craves so much and a #10 to go in behind Rashford to be the creative fulcrum for the attack.

To me that would be the ideal formation especially if the plan would be to get Fernandes and Neves.

I really wish we get him this summer. But his release clause is really high.

Don't pay attention to the release clause. All Portuguese clubs place high release clauses so that they have leverage when making a deal. I think 60M to 70M is what Sporting ideally would want. Sadly are bored have the same intelligence as a class full of 10 year olds.

really warming to this lad based on the Sporting posters in here, and the price being talked about seems very reasonable

does he only play centrally or could he be used out wide too?

Center only. If you put him outside you get rid of his best quality and assets.

Would you recommend either of the Europa League games against Arsenal or Villarreal as good for showing his abilities and a good watch in general?

Ummm well the arsenal games we had an interim coach and it was a very boring game all together.

I would suggest watching the second leg of the Villarreal one he shows a lot of fight worth ethic and tenacity and also got a goal that game.

Their are better games of him this season you might be able to find.

I think the key thing we need from the player that is in the hole behind the strikers is he needs to be able to hold the ball up and be the attacking fulcrum, since neither of our #9's can do it.

Well to me that sounds like more a #9 problem then the #10. The role of the 10 is to link up play and create scoring opportunities for his teammates and himself and that is exactly what Bruno Fernandes does.

That's the reality of the United squad right now, Rashford is the golden boy and with him as a #9 we need a false 9 or #10 in one of the two systems talked about who can protect the ball and knit the attack together, as he is not a #9 that can act as the fulcrum of a front 3.

    I agree with this.

Bruno Fernandes could be an option as a 10 (and would suit us well as he could be a flexible option) while Felix could suit us as a false 9. But I doubt there will be money left for a right winger if we move for these two.

I can't see any way we buy both with the figures suggested, Felix is a better fit with what we have but his age and stature might be a concern for the board given the prices touted, I think most would say he probably needs another season to mature at Benfica. Bruno Fernandes just doesn't really fit with us at all IMO, not with the strikers we have, we need a different type of player in behind them as I do think Rashford and Martial factor into Ole's key starting 11 plans.

I think the opposite right now based on what I've seen and read

Felix looks really talented and I'd love him here, but i don't see how he'd fit in with the current setup. From what I've seen he seems to drift around a lot from the left side of the pitch, basically the opposite from what Mata and Lingard do on the other side, which we all hate.

Perhaps you've seen more but where did you see him fitting in?

I could see Fernandes coming in to replace Herrera if we signed a good deep lying playmaker or a destroyer, or he could replace Pogba and fit in quite easily.

I’m not sure Martial do. Unless he changes a bit. Ole tends to favour hard-working players. At least from the types we saw in Molde.

In an ideal world, Ferguson wanted to wait one more year for Rooney. But Newcastle forced our hands. Ronaldo was probably not ready either. I think Man Utd will have to be willing to buy the best talent early if they are to have any chance of getting them. Now more then ever.

You might be right about Bruno Fernandes. But I do think a player like him would give us more options, and I do think we need that.

Him or Havertz. Both are very hard-working players, tactical adept players that could add creativity and make it harder for teams to set up a plan just to take out Pogba. They are a type of modern a version of Lampard/Gerrard, making them more suited to play next to each other. More mobile/agile than Lampard and smarter/more tactical adept than Gerrard. In my opinion this will be the modern midfielders at the highest level the next decade; players expected to function in both defence and attack. A modern box-to-box.

Would he work in a midfield three? A holding midfielder and him and Pogba? Would seem like a very attacking team full of goals if we can get Sancho. I'd be very happy with that.

I see Felix playing in the false 9 role we've used Lingard in and Mata in a couple of games, I think he'd be the creative link between the split strikers, to me we need that type of player more than a RW as if Rashford is to be the #9 then we can't play the 4-3-3 as he can't hold the ball up and that system needs a striker that acts as the fulcrum in the frontline, but as I said I think it's a season too soon for Felix.

With Bruno Fernandes I really only see him as a replacement for Pogba as he's too weak to play Herrera's role even if we got the Mother of all DM's in my view.

If that is the case we should never have signed Martial to a big new contract IMO, as he will never be that and I do question is off the ball movement in attack, but right now I think him and Rashford are the two that will be the first choices in the forward line.

What you're saying in regards to Ronaldo and Rooney in relation to Felix and Sancho is a fair point, I feel the difference is that they came into a United squad where we had much better established quality to help them, where as in the case of Felix and Sancho we are asking them to pitch up next to Rashford and Martial who are both young and inconsistent themselves. I've said it in other threads and I know it's not the popular opinion here, but I think this attack needs a proven top class player added to give us what Sanchez was meant to, someone that can lift up Rashford and Martial as they develop.

The thing when talking about options is we are not in a position to be paying £50M+ on a squad player, which I truly believe is what Bruno would be here under the current set-up. If Pogba goes and you want to replace him like for like but with a lower grade player, then Fernandes would slot right in, but while Pogba is here I think the replacement for Herrera needs to have more about them physically no matter who the DM is, players like Barella and Ndombele more fit the mold IMO.

The thing is Felix is simply not ready at all he is getting the hype Sanches got and he flopped massively. Granted I never ever rated Sanches not one bit as for Felix I do recognize he has talent but the truth it is United splashed 100M on him (that’s what Benfica want) he would have little to no impact at all at United he is too skinny and small and is still finding himself also because of his position I really would not see him starting one bit. So then what happens is United spent 100M! On a player that has no immediate impact in the starting team at all and then his confidence drops ala Sanches and he is back in Portugal within 3 years.

United simply can not afford to feck up this summer and signing 100M for Felix when there are many other players they need to sign as well is wasting important transfer fund which get them no where near the top 3 sides in the league or top 2 rather.

I agree they are more «like-for-like»-replacements and interesting options. Ndombele seems like a great player, but I do feel he lacks understanding/urgency or something similiar (lack of a good word) in and around the box, both defending and attacking. Several young players do. Some just have it (Scholes, Gerrard etc). Pogba kind of lacks it when defending, like on the second goal against Wolves. McTominay is not that gifted, but he too seem to have «it».

Another goal and assist in a 3-0 win for Sporting. He ties Frank Lampard record of 27 goals in one season for a midfielder.

Pogba to leave for £120-140m and this guy to come in for £60-70m is my gut feeling. In fact I'd sign Fernandes n Tielmanns with the Pogba cash. I think we'd come out winners in that scenario.

Is there a reason for this sudden upturn in productivity? I saw his best goal scoring season in his career before this season was 16 goals in 56 games last season. Before that it's 5 goals in 35 games.

Seems ridiculous to go from that to the season he's currently having.
