I think they're retaining it regardless. They're a settled team who've been top two in the league for several seasons now alongside impressing in Europe.

The rest of us are still in the transitioning phase and are playing catch-up.
 
I would pay 80-90 million for him. He is arguably the best midfielder in the league on his day and utterly transforms a shit Newcastle side like a genuine roy of the rovers.

If we had him, Mainoo and Bruno as a midfield for big games, we would be in with a shout on all fronts.

This would be my dream signing. By the time 3-4 years are up, having a player of his quality coukd easily help generate far more than that in competition money etc…
 
Arsenal aren't resting on their laurels.

Arteta went cold on Zubimendi in the run in after basically playing him every game for first seven months of the season.

Odegaard lots of injuries and not quite got the zip of his first three seasons.

Lewis Skelly did well after taking over from Zubimendi but whether he can be CM solution for 40 odd games I'm not sure but still young.

Norgaard had a year's holiday, fair play to him.

So space is there and Arsenal will finally sell a few of their regulars who are now squad players like Martinelli and Ben White I suspect.

It’s not something that should become a reality. That would be them actually opening up a gap between them and the chasing pack.
 
There's a few updates in there for someone who's meant to be quite good for Arsenal. Lot of agent games this summer.

We should not be building anything around mainoo, if he's good enough he will rise to the top. We need to sign the best players possible, Bruno g is currently a much better mf than mainoo.
If we signed m. Fernandes and Tchouameni, mainoo would be 3rd choice behind them

Yeah he would be my top target in PL, however we know what Ratcliffe views are on this age of player with a high fee in his eyes. So annoyed we aren't at least trying to sign and just giving Arsenal free run.

Arsenal have never really used him that way though, have they? He's not the best on the half turn and taking from the defenders. Although, I guess Bruno G can do that for him
 
He’s the upgrade on Zubimendi not Rice.

He’d be a unreal signing.

Case was good for us but yeah that deal wasn't great since he leaves for nothing and cost 130m in transfer fee and wages with only a league cup to show for it

I think I'd be fine with that. Casemiro has a great first and last year, but I don't think overall he's been worth the outlay. If Bruno G for Arsenal turned out similar, it could be worse

You’re right in as much as he’s spent most of his time at Arsenal as our left 8 in a 4-3-3. But he started out playing most games as a lone 6 with Havertz and Odegaard (which is wild considering how risk-averse we were last season). And we’ve played a double pivot for pretty much the entire calendar year. A Rice / Bruno double pivot would be incredibly well balanced.

You’re also right that taking the ball on the half turn is not one of Rice’s strengths. But he’s not terrible at it, and Bruno / Lewis-Skelley are both very comfortable playing that role.
 
I like him but I also feel hes over hyped. I am not concerned about where he goes, but Id also be pretty happy with him here.
 
Start of the window he was who I wanted, would be fuming if he goes for less than who we’ve been in for.

INEOS don't go for players in late 20's/early 30's who will cost around the £70m mark, personally I don't think this guy would command same level of wages as Casemiro but they still won't do it anyway

I could see them breaking that for the right player, and depending on how desperate we are if our other targets go elsewhere. He'll probably be an arsenal player by that time though.

He’s the best available midfielder on the market. If he was two years younger, every team would be in for him but the price involved and lack of any return is probably what worries teams.

I agree.

He’s a cracking player but wouldn’t sit, and Rice isn’t a sitter either, he’d either play alongside Rice with a strong 6 behind both or would replace him which isn’t an upgrade (debatable but it’s much of a muchness).

I’d be surprised if that’s the direction Arsenal went, I don’t think it’s what they need.
