Bruno Guimaraes

Bruno G is better than Tonali, but he is three years older. In the article above, a price of €80 million has been mentioned. If that’s the case, he would need to give us five good seasons to justify the price tag. I’m not sure that’s possible. Bruno G would be 33 years old in five seasons.

Either way we have to get two midfielders this summer. Would not mind Bruno G and one of Camavinga/Matheus Fernandes.

Probably would.

There is probably even a good chance you could get one or two more years out of him as a backup. Fernandinho was a regular for City until the season he turned 35, but he gave then two more years as a backup.

He was actually the same age as Bruno G will be now when City signed him.

Bruno G and Mateus F or Alex Scott would be a great window. Baleba would have me worried.

Reuters is a serious news agency but they don’t report football transfer news. It would however be a strange move to pay so much for him, having used Casemiro’s wages and transfer fee as a cudgel to beat the old chiefs with.

No thanks,
Good player but he is getting on now and would be too expensive!

Looking at our midfield and saying “no thanks” to Bruno Guimaraes is kinda wild to me

If we get 5 years out of him he’s been a success, he’s fantastic.

Yes please. If you are looking for a partner for Mainoo, he is the one. 80 millions is like the highest I'd go because of his age. Still cheaper than Tonali, mind you.

Or maybe take Camavinga from Madrid. Seems like they want to offload him based on the article.

When we can sign Tonali who is 3 years younger for the same amount - it's not that wild.
Bruno G is a much better player though.

But he is older and he’s starting to pick up injuries?

Would be a dream signing if he were 25-27.

WTF, Reuters joining silly season with their own sources? Using the same journo that is close to Bruno G? Wow.

Who’s also no where near as good. I’d rather sign an excellent 28 year old than a decent 25 year old.

I still think its only a dip in form for Baleba, so I wont mind

Baleba/Guimaraes/Bruno-F in our midfield next year
OR any of these
Baleba/Wharton/Bruno-F
Baleba/Anderson/Bruno-F

My first thought too.

But he is actually close to two years younger than Casemiro was. That would also imply that we likely would depreciate the fee over a 5+1 year contract compared to 4 year for Casemiro. And his wages is likely to be lower. Casemiro was bought for £70 mill and depreciated over four years. In combination with his wages he likely cost the club approx £35 mill a year.

In the case of Bruno G there has been talk of a clause of £60 mill if they dont make it into the CL. If a club hand him a 5+1 contract the yearly cost associated with buying him would be approximately £22-25 mill.

I suspect this is more about him trying to generate some heat for a move rather than us genuinely being willing to spend €80m on a player who will be 29 when he joins. Which is not to say he wouldn’t be very good for us, but it hasn’t really been the vibe with INEOS so far.

At 28 years old with that predicted price you really can’t see INEOS willing to sanction this.

What is Gordie Bruno's injury record? Not sure Ineos would splash the cash for him, he's old in their books.

If Camavinga truly is nearing the exit door at Madrid, I'd prefer we go for him. Provided we don't get fleeced by Madrid.

He's 28. On those fees he's a hard pass

I think he's brilliant but I think this is likely his agent trying to drum up a move. Newcastle won't be in the CL next season. No guarantee they will the year either, and he's got the ability to play for a top side who could compete to win it/the league.

He's a fantastic player and would massively improve our team. How many top seasons has he left in his tank? 4 maybe? I'd take him easily.

It's starting to feel like we could be a couple of key signings away from being able to think about putting together a title challenge in a year or two.

I've got nothing against signing finished articles in their prime if that's the goal, rather than doing a Chelsea and just continuing to sign kids forever for sell-on money. Makes sense with the Project 150 thing as well that INEOS might head in that direction in the next few windows.

Yes. with £250m+ budget, and in need of a few midfielders and maybe a Left Winger and Left Back.. lets spend half the budget on a 28-year-old midfielder...? What can go wrong. He is class no doubt, but not for us.

He's a quality player. But it would still be spending massive money/wages on a player in his late 20's.

Which brings us to the same sort of discussion we have whenever we are linked to a player in that age bracket. Be it players we sign like Matic & Casemiro, or players we don't sign like Ollie Watkins.

People make arguments like "if we get 5 years out of him he'll easily be worth it, and there's no reason he can't maintain his current level for 5 years". But in reality the averge PL player is already past their absolute peak at that age, and you are more likely than not to see them at least start to decline over the big-money contract you are handing them.

The time to sign him was when Newcastle did, as a 24 year old from Lyon. Not as a 28 year old at a PL-inflated price.

For 70m? Yes please. Even if he only were to have 4 more seasons at this level, I would consider it a good transfer. Midfield is not something we can continue to neglect.

I'm in - as long as we sign the lad from West ham so our midfield will be

Bruno - Fernandes
Bruno Fernandes

I assume Anderson goes to City. I'd take both Tonali and Guimaraes please. And then add a cheap destroyer.

He's currently out for 2+ months with an injury. Would seen an odd time to sign him.

The price being quoted in the article is £69 million. No need to exaggerate.

Hes a good player. Yes it would be nicer if he was in his early 20s but its better to have a very good midfielder for a couple of years, in his case it would be 3 or 4, than signing a much worse midfielder for 6 or 7 years
