It would be really unprofessional of him if he isn't fit for the first game of the season.

Worrying how out of shape he seems, we need him to get up to speed quickly. Showed flashes of quality today but not ready for the league campaign yet.

He's carrying a little too much bodyfat around the stomach right now, and I don't mean that in the sense that he's "fat", but obviously judging by athlete standards in the PL, he needs to drop a few lbs of summer fat to get to his best performing capabililties as quick as possible.
This definitely happened at Brentford a couple seasons back too. I remember from FPL research.

He went on to have a good season though

he put in 2 superb crosses that could have been in if someone dominant in the air was on the pitch.
If only he realised that there was nobody dominant in the air on the pitch before wasting time putting in those crosses. Some great through balls from Harry Maguire too, which could easily have been goals if prime Ronaldo had been up front.

I’m still getting my head around the fact that we have signed the 2 best 10s in the league and one of the best young strikers in the world. Who seen this happening after the misery of losing the Europa league final?

He's looked good so far. I'm excited to see how he plays once he drops 3 or 4 stone

If Brentford were messing us about then we could have moved onto a plan B in his position, but it seemed like we were determined to get him at all cost. Anyway, he's here now so hopefully the player and the staff do everything they can to get his fitness to the required level as soon as possible.

No complaints on how we dealt with the Sesko transfer. That was refreshingly quick.

How do you know we didn't explore a plan B but decided it was best to persevere with the Mbeumo deal?

What we hear in the media about transfers is only a tiny fraction of what actually goes on behind the scenes between agents, clubs and players. Making assumptions and laying blame based on the incredibly superficial information that is either fed or leaked to the media is a fool’s errand. As for the Sesko deal happening more quickly, if anything, that just indicates that the speed of different deals is dependent on more factors than just the buying club’s actions.

We nearly scored twice from his crosses. Point blank. And he got on the end of a couple of balls he definitely wasn’t favorite for. He was very good overall though he definitely did look a bit winded at times.

They have been sucked into a narrative fueled by a photoshopped image. The modern, chronically online human really is evolution in reverse.

They aren’t real man, this window we have had is beyond fairytale, it’s inconceivable.

If we somehow manage to add Baleba and/or Donnarumma as well….. I can’t speak, I can’t speak…

He's clearly not fully fit but played well today. I wouldn't start him next week as he certainly needs a couple weeks hard graft in the gym to catch up.

It's not a huge deal at this point but he might be one of those players that takes a bit longer each season to get in perfect condition

They need to gel together and build a chemistry. Time will tell whether this formation suits them or not

Depends on what you call 'Fit'. Amorim has his own standards this season for the players and he himself said Cunha and Mbuemo are 50-60% of their levels currently. I don't think they will be fully fit to start at the level Amorim expects them.

Only players who seem to be at that level in our attack and midfield are Dorgu, Bruno, Mount (I know!!) and Amad.

Just watching the highlights he had 3 crosses in quick succession that found the head of a United player, Maguire, Heaven, Yoro.

Probably our best crosser of the ball, alongside Bruno.

Absolutely has to start next week.

Already looks like one of our best players despite the lack of fitness, and given Sesko/Hojlund/Zirkzee won't start, we're really trying to scrape together a front 3 if Mbeumo doesn't start.

Only way to get him fit and sharp as quickly as possible is to play him.

Na he definitely looks a little unfit

we almost scored...did you even watch the game?

Some bizarre tales in here, looked very dangerous despite not being fully fit. People saying he's fat etc are taking the Mick, that sprint be put in and managed to make about 10 yards on the defender and get to the ball first shows how quick and powert he is. I agree hes not 100% but he's not a million miles away.

Good crossing from him and was probably out most creative player on the day, will be an important player this year.

Baller! This guy is putting crosses in at a level we haven’t seen in years! Just think when we’ve got Šeško Looking to get on the end of them. Not to mention the serious goal threat he possesses himself.

Thought I'd venture into the threads for the new players as well as Bruno's, and Casemiro's. Probably shouldn't have as they're even worse than I thought they'd be.

I'd hope the posts were tongue in cheek, but it seems most of them are very much serious. Fair enough, making statements on what you see is a thing, but the lack of perspective is quite astonishing.

These transfer windows where players come in in dribs and drabs are going to lead to what we have: players in various stages of fitness, readiness and familiarity not only to one another, but what is being asked of them.

For the start of the season, we're more likely to be fielding the majority of what was here last season who are the fittest and ready to go than the new buys, especially those who came in relatively late. The hope is that we can win games and perform well enough to get by until everyone is fit and bedded in by c. October.

There's far more positives than negatives to draw from Mbeumo considering this is the very worst he'll be here. Obvious, is obvious in that he and Sesko have the potential to become something mutually beneficial and once the players familiarise themselves with each other, the appropriate runs and chains of movement will be made.

I suppose the Brentford fans can provide insight as to whether it's a normal thing that Mbeumo comes back to camp overweight or whether this was a one off.

I hope fans will have a modicum of reason and patience with the team and the new faces within it.

One doesn't need look past Luís Ronaldo at Corinthians to see that being overweight and being fast aren't mutually exclusive. Although obviously Ronaldo was significantly overweight at that point and Mbeumo just isn't in the season-beging-in-a-week shape yet, but he does seem a bit bigger even for his usual physique (obviously using the word "fat" would be disingenuous though).

He looks like a proper player so far and he seems more ready to produce from the get go than Cunha, for example, but I also don't think it's too much to expect from a player to be in a better shape at August after he has spent the last 2 months awaiting for his big transfer.

We would have signed Delap instead of Sesko if we won the Europa

He's got a good turn of pace on him. Will give a Shaw a run for his money when the burger van comes.

Christ, some of you are awful. The same thing happened with Shaw. It's fun taking the piss out of rival players, not our own
It was just a silly joke. I'm sure he's gonna lose it over the next week or 2. I think he'll be our best player this season.

His physique is bit broader rooneyesque.

Still he looked little lacking in stamina. Will come with fitness work soon enough.

Otherwise has shown good touches and everything.

He is an amazing player. Quick, efficient, always looking to take the best option available.

I think it will be hard for strong and explosive athlete like him, to have the best stamina. People need to chill with the "out of shape", "unfit", "fat" labels.

He looks incredibly good at crossing and Šeśko literally has "AirŠeško" nickname.

A match made in heaven?

Very true, his crossing is excellent. Finally another option other than Bruno on set pieces

This is why I reckon Osimhen was our first choice and we went to Sesko who was also good in the air.

From the last 2 appearances he looks like he has a good first touch & pace, crossing looks good

Some cons are that he looks a bit one footed and I'm unsure of his CAM like creativity but I don't think that's what Amorim wants from RAM position anyway.

Our pass empathy is laughable in general. Some of the passes fizzed into him were so bad. Guaranteed possession loss in most cases. However, he controlled like they were nothing, and that's a clear sign of technical excellence.

He's 2 weeks or so behind on his fitness, it's also pretty obvious the chemistry in the team needs work. I have no doubts he'll be a quality player for us.

I think he will be a good signing and I am certainly all in favor of his transfer , but I am surprised and a bit disappointed about the physical shape he is in , I know he missed a lot of the preseason as the transfer dragged on but as a professional I would have expected him to keep himself in better shape. Hopefully he can get up to speed quickly on the fitness front as the talent is there. A fully fit Mbeumo could make a big difference for us this season.

If it was up to me, after the second bid was rejected, I would have used the funds to sign a CM and settled for Bruno and Amad as our R10 options.

If the club believed that signing an R10 was absolutely crucial, then Gibbs-White could have been cheaper plan B, providing we had gotten Forest's permission to speak to his agent first, unlike Spurs!

I am conscious of derailing the player performance thread with hypotheticals when Mbeumo has only played a game and a half of preseason football. I just feel like the lack of fitness from our expensive signing, 1 week before the Premier League campaign begins, was somewhat avoidable from our end. We're certainly not 100% to blame for this less-than-ideal situation though.
MGW is nothing like Mbeumo. He doesnt score very many for a start in comparison. Mbeumo is worth the wait, have patience

Really excited about him looks sharp and once he clicks with the front 3 he could be special.
