He has been a disaster. Hope you understand now why I said he offers nothing. Stats dont tell the whole story. Mbeumo could never score a goal like Newcastle's second, yet United needs wingers who can produce such goals if it aspires to be a top club. Mbeumo is a mid to lower table hustler with no technique. I have never seen him in the last 8 months at United either take on a player like Cunha, or any other decent winger would do, or shoot the ball at goal. Heck even Zirkzee and Amad offer far more attacking threats than him with less minutes. When did you ever see Mbeumo attempt the type of shot Zirkzee took?
He sucked tonight but it’s recency bias in the extreme to say he’s been a disaster signing

Was like watching Rooney playing after one of his benders.

Can't knock the guy because he always puts in a shift, but maybe a spell on the bench would take the pressure off.

He was crap tonight, sometimes he just lacks composure to finish a good move, not sure why you would blast the ball from 6 yards out, would like that he gets benched in the next games as he's been bang on average lately.

So poor today. Needs to be dropped. He's been taking all these starts for granted.

He seems to sky easy chances over the bar way too often.

Showed some really good movement today to get into dangerous positions, but he was poor on the ball, should have been taken off much sooner.

Playing like something is going on. A lot of the players need a restart - perhaps 11 days off now will help

This was my thought as well. Mbeumo played like he was rattled, mentally disturbed or something. He looked to me like he didn't want to be on the pitch today and play football for some reason. Needed to be subbed off at halftime(had a yellow card for most of the match as well), not at the 75th minute...

He lacks the 1 v 1 ability you would want in a wide player, but in some ways he is very typical of how the game has changed that role, really a striker playing from wide with good movement and finishing, allows them to avoid the back to goal battering strikers have to take and also the defensive responsibilities that old style wingers had.

He was 15th percentile for miscontrols (lower is worse) across the Top 5 leagues in his last season at Brentford.

8th percentile in 23/24.

He's always had a ropey touch.
I posted some stats about it on a previous page. At the beginning of the season when everyone was praising him, he was losing the ball just as much. I also looked at last season and was very poor in that regard as well. I don't know why everyone thought he was this player with Berbatov-esque control who looked after the ball. He's never been that player.

He's a decent goal threat with a good cross on him, but the rest of his game is very poor.

His all round game is very concerning once again, and his bottom level shouldn’t be this poor at his age and with his PL experience especially considering the huge money we’ve invested in him.

He seems to be tired as of late. Maybe the afcon is catching up on him.

Him out wide I believe also effects sesko as there is a lack of crosses for sesko.

Has been one of our big positives this season and can only get stronger

My feeling in the summer is he's a level below what we should be aiming for and it's still that now. He will get the odd goal but he's a scruffy footballer and not technically good enough for me.

I'd start Amad every day of the week over him.

Obviously has a lot of credit in the bank with the goals he’s scored, but he gets away with murder compared to Cunha and Amad. Hopefully dropped next game.

why didn’t he swivel and foot with his left from Bruno’s pass
Wasn’t easy but surely doable
That’s without mentioning when he put one in the sky

Scored a few goals but he's been poor. Has yet to perform anything like his Brentford self.
That’s probably how he played at Brentford. But every touch is not scrutinised as much over there.

Would be near his Brentford total from last season if he took pens here.

I find him just a bit too predictable.

I'm not really sure he can beat his man as much as Amad can. When Amad plays it feels like the opposition really have to concentrate to stop making a mistake or causing a penalty.

Mbeumo's has a tendency to cut in more a bit like a less clinical version of Robben.

Still our best forward this season - but I can see why I wasn't the most excited about his transfer too.

Looks tired. I really like him but needs a spell on the bench. Only issue is we have no one to replace him.

He’s one of those that lives and dies by end product as his quality on the ball is extremely basic. Killer (usually) in the final third and bog standard outside of that. He did show a great first touch in the first third of the season but that’s it. He’s surprised me with just how poor a dribbler he is, his ball manipulation is like a limited burley CF from the 90s.

Anyhoo if he can consistently produce in the final third and get his first touch going again, he can still be a strong addition.

He's a good player but I get the feeling that Carrick seems him as a level above player or something, which I disagree with. He's not a better RW than Amad, and I think he has less natural talent than Cunha but what Mbeumo does have is the reliability on the ball to make good decisions. That's useful to have, usually you can be pretty safe with what you're going to get from him. His role should be the same as Amad & Cunha and Sesko, basically all in a rotation and all competing with each other. Pick 3 of the 4, I wouldn't say one is clearly above another.

Really should've scored today though, bad miss, and he's obviously lost a bit of form.

I thought he looked tired, and with Amad bright cameo I expected him to start this game.
Carrick does not rotate though. He basically runs with the same setup until he hits a wall of bricks.

People love a knee jerk reaction on here. He was our best player for the first few months of the season and now has a drop off. Maybe AFCON is catching up with him and also the emotional toll of moving to such a massive club. He will be fine; don’t forget all those key goals he’s scored for us this season after a few poor games

When we have had so little games to play, rotation really isn't necessary,

Yup, came back from AFCON with a point to prove and with the buzz of new manager etc. But that's worn off and now he looks tired.

We played 3 days before, and Casemiro was on for 90'. We needed him more against Newcastle and he only lasted 60'.
Mazraoui looked a bit ropey because he never plays despite being available for a long time.
Mbuemo played 86' vs CP, and Amad coming for him was lively. They could've swapped for this game. Amad is also better defensively and Mbuemo was hardly putting any crosses in for Sesko anyway.

There were options. Not the best, but squad rotation isn't "necessary" thing, but I feel a good manager would utilize his squad a bit better than Carrick.

I would start Amad against Aston Villa, send a message. The fact that he can go from being an elite finisher to missing wide open goals or failing in very basic decision making indicates that he's getting a bit too comfortable. Mbeumo is one of the players we heavily rely on to win games, he just cannot play like he did yesterday. It's unacceptable when we know he's capable of performing much better.

He´s only human you know. When he gets sent to the bench and the other players start firing banks, you ´ll be still the same person to harass Carrick on benching him.

Still think he should have just swung his boot at that ball from Bruno instead of taking the touch away from goal. Felt any decent contact on target would be a very difficult save

I am a big fan of his but he has been very disappointing the last few games , his pressing is half hearted now and seems to have assimilated into the laid back culture of modern Utd where everything is done at low tempo with minimal effort.
