Been saying it all season, he will get you the odd goal but technically he's an absolute mess. Another expensive squad player for me next season.
'the odd goal' seems harsh. He'll probably finish a 1 in 3 player this season, which is more than good enough. As long as all your front 3 players can do that, you'll be fine. The problem is Amad's output is atrocious this season and Sesko is settling in, so between Cunha and Mbuemo, they've had to play through the middle. If we can actually get some quality in depth, perceptions will greatly change IMO.

Mbuemo should 100% start at the RW with Amad on the bench. Amad have like 2+2 this season which is just bad and he should at best be a sub..

He was very good at the start of the season but his form had been abysmal since AFCON.

He’s very poor technically and nothing seems to stick, the ball constantly bobbles or bounces off him but at least he was banging the goals in early doors but now that’s dried up he’s not offering anything.

Not worth his place in the first team right now.

We wanted 2 out of the 3 of mbeumo, cunha, semenyo bit i think the best out if them is the one we didn't go for

That's because Semenyo is playing in a better, more attacking team in which he is more capable of showing his qualities in my opinion.

Did you watch Semenyo against Real Madrid? He showed every single one of the limitations Mbuemo is showing when playing a side better than his.

Guy scored 9 goals without playing on his natural position whole season. Just play him on rw and that is it.

He was absolutely fine technically last season. He's going through a bad patch but he'll be fine.

Don't think many people would have a problem if he struggled against Madrid but it's the fact he's struggling against way inferior teams that's causing issues and it's been going on for months outside of the odd game/45 mins.

Mbeumo poor technically??

Some of you are smoking some weird stuff these days....

He’s been better up top though, been bang average at RW.

I don't think so, plenty of games up top where he's been average. No real correlation to me and in fact it feels like he's barely played RW.

We only started playing with a RW once Carrick came in and Amad has started there in all but a couple of games since then.

What do you mean by ‘technically’? His first touch and overall technique seem very good. Do you just mean that he doesn’t like to dribble?

Some people seem to think that it means you have to be a good dribbler or use flashy skills.
It's such a loaded term these days imo. From my experience folks that use it mostly think that Barca style tiki taka technomidgets have it but anyone with pass % completion of less than 90% don't

God knows but if that's part of the criteria then Mbeumo is falling way short of being good technically.
Mbeumo's first touch is ridiculous. He has been off it recently, but in general he has probably among the best first touch in the league.

Can you define technically? Seems everyone's definition varies.
His technical ability on the ball, how well he dribbles, his technique of passing, controlling, the finer attributes of ball control.
That what it means to me, all things I'd say Mbeumo is fundamentally good at.

Not seen that at United for months.....

Fair enough, hopefully we see some instances of that soon because the excuse of he's not playing "his" position is wearing thin when he's not doing any of them well at the moment.

Isn’t it self explanatory? Having technical ability. Being able to pass well, dribble well, control the ball well, and not look as if all those things are laborious

Mbeumo is technically good but he’s lacking in confidence. Someone like Sesko for example, I think we all know he’s lacking in confidence but I’m not 100% sure he has the technical ability ie the fine tuned abilities you need at the top level to make it. We’ll see

Ugarte is an example of someone who doesn’t really have that technical ability because he plays it safe and struggles to be creative or even make simple passes. Or comparing Martinez’s strengths vs Maguire’s

It’s a useful term. United need more technical, fine tuned players

What about heading technique? Tackling technique? Long passing technique? It always seems like certain skills get pushed as 'technical' while others don't.

Sesko's technique is very good. Once he adapts fully to the pace of the league, he'll look much better too. Some of his goals for us have been a direct result of his great finishing technique. Look up some of his goals before joining us too, and they're even crazier.

You don't need world class technique to make it at the top level, any way. Lukaku was a top striker, and he wasn't particularly known for his first touch or general technique.

Himself and amad have been crap really overall since we went to 4 at the back. It's worrying but I don't expect either to catch fire again now before the end of the season. Yoro is another who doesn't look totally comfortable in a 4 and I suspect that is also probably the reason Heaven hasn't been playing either

Mbeumo has 0 goals in his last 6 starts +1 sub (last night)

He is currently not looking like he should start on the right, or up front. He is rightly a sub
Amad has two goals all season, both under Amorim as a wingback. He should most definitely be the sub.

I think it’s more the rarer and fine tuned technical abilities that get lauded, really. Not many players can cross with pinpoint accuracy, dribble past players with skill and play passes no one else sees. That’s how I see it anyway. Like I say United are crying out for what people would broadly class as “technical players” who can create, keep the ball, have final product, make the right decisions with their technical little footy brain

feck knows

Well yeah case in point with Lukaku. I think technical players are players who are just really good at actual football. You can distinguish that between Lukaku and Van Persie regardless of goals and stats

Playing him as a CF is a good tactical trick to use now and then, but ideally, you'd play him at RW most of the time.

RAM gets him closer to goal than RW. Think we need to take into account this shift too.

Seen enough of Mbeumo to know he’s a good enough player to succeed at United.

Yes but he scored more at Brentford and most of those games were right wing. He did also play some games up front with Wissa in a 2

But I think clearly Brentford's lineup suited him more when he was playing RW than ours does. I remember last summer there were posters confused that I thought Mbeumo had a better setup for him getting goals there than he would have at United because firstly he was the penalty taker and secondly he scored 15 non penalty goals from mostly right wing, with Damsgaard getting loads of assists and from making late runs into the box to support Wissa. I thought clearly they are efficiently set up for his effectiveness as a goalscorer and he had great results. And I dont think hes had quite the same level of understanding and effectiveness with Bruno, Cunha and Sesko

The difference is just if you want your RW to be a forward or a creator/progressor.

I don't think it's worth using wide forwards unless they are truly top players. Mbeumo isn't good enough to take the sacrifices in your squad structure that you need to accomodate essentially a wide poacher.

He's a very good squad player to have, but those attacking positions need to be key players, and I don't think he has enough to be a key player for a top 3 side.

I think it can work but it relies on the AM and left winger to do almost all of the chance creation. And while we've been linked with Diomande who looks like a player who can deliver that, almost all of his end product has come from the right side rather than left. So even he would seem to be unable to provide what Mbeumo would need to play as just a goalscorer coming from the right.

I'm not saying it can't work, I just think the general team trade off you get isn't worth it with Mbeumos level. He's not the level of someone like Salah was for example where you shift your whole team to cater to the wide forward and actually compete for the biggest trophies.

As of now, all of amad, Cunha and mbeumo are the level of challenging for top 4 spots, but not good enough to challenge for a title (unless the rest of the team is elite like Arsenal where they challenge despite their front 3). Amad probably the only one who has it in him to become enough to make the step up beyond that, otherwise I'd say they're all squad players at that level.

Why wasn't Lukaku's 1 in 2 good enough then?
Because his all round game was far worse. Lukaku is effective, but you have to set up your team like Conte to get the best out of him. It's also his Mbuemo first season and we've changed managers mid seaso., I expect him to improve next season, but if he ends up 1 in 3, he's not underperformed in my opinion.
