Think we can see why Carrick prefers him centrally.
Don't think he does enough as a wide player. This is aside from his poor form, where he's constantly scuffed his first touch. He's a good crosser, with pace to burn, but can't really beat his man 1v1 like Amad has shown in the past.

Up top, he's good against the big teams, where he's got space to run behind, but really struggles against defenses that sit deep.

Think over the longer term, he may end up a rotation option in the middle.
I think he'd work well as a narrow forward too coming out to in, but in order for that to be effective you need overlapping fullbacks that can hurt a team from wide. Which we have none of.

It's not going to happen this summer but I'd really love two new top fullbacks. Just cut on PSG and you can see how dangerous a team can be that has fullbacks with final third quality and pace on the ball. Makes it far easier to allow your forwards to float and find spaces because a team can't just let Hakimi and Mendes run free while they mark forwards.

He's played very poorly for months now, but I also don't think Carrick's system is helping our attacking players (other than Bruno) much. We create 2 or 3 great chances on the counter each match, but we're not keeping/moving the ball in a way that gives our attackers an opportunity to get into a rhythm and figure things out as a match goes on. If they mess up in one of their one or two opportunities, that's it for them. It's a tough league.

That's not to excuse our attackers, they need to be better and their play is also making the system look worse. It's a feedback loop.

I agree with the last few comments. Both him and Cunha are best when they play a bit more centrally and not like traditional wingers. They also need fullbacks going forward to provide the width and overlap. That is a reason why Dorgu was brought in.

We are back to a simple counter attacking system which would work better with more classic wingers.

Man Utd 3:2 Liverpool New
He tried but he is really not a top quality player, just decent player that we as usual overpaid for

1st half is the best he'd played in ages, 2nd half utter shite. Will be put down to the position change but that shouldn't effect everything from his touch going awry and his decision making going to shite. Needs to get out of this slump pronto.

He was good in the first half.

But his first touch is atrocious. We had a 3 on 1 if he could control the ball. I would prefer Cunha as centre forward compared to him especially now that Dorgu is back to cover the left wing.

Mbuemo's touch is tough to watch right now. Ruined several counterattacks because he couldn't take it in stride and play a simple pass. Disappointing.

He was a bit better today. While he still doesnt beat players much, he did a better job of moving the ball and opening up space to play passes and crosses without having to beat players

He was much better today. A lot of fans will miss that though as they judge players performance based on how they feel about their form generally rather than the actual individual game.

I agree that he played much better today, especially first half. Willing runner, decent crosses, good link up play on the right. But he needs a goal to settle himself, I feel not scoring for so long is affecting him. Hope Bruno puts it on a plate for him soon.

He cannot have this bottom level next season. We’re going up a level and he needs to go up two, and get much fitter.

I love Mbeumo as a player but his form has been awful lately. Thought he did better in the first half today, getting early crosses in and linking up well. Second half and playing up front he just didnt look threatening, didnt provide a target, and his touch has been so poor.

Much better in the first half. Poor when he moved upfront second half.

You can tell he’s low on confidence, performed a bit better today but I’m not concerned overall. He’s a quality player and just needs a goal to get him back on track and flying again.

He's like Gakpo. But we paid 70m for him, they paid 45m for their version

There isn't that much upside there though. That was obvious even at Brentford.

Work ethic is there, but it feels that he needs to bulk down a bit; he’s not the most mobile / agile in certain circumstances. Still very glad we have him though, just going through a bit of a low spell atm. It feels that he’s frustrated on the pitch. A few goals and I think we’ll see the best of him again.

Thought both him and Amad were poor. Feel like Shea will be snapping at their heels and pushing for mins next season

There's just so many qualities that are missing from his game. His touch is poor, passing average at best, isn't crafty enough to beat his man with skill, nor can he outrun anyone.

When he isn't scoring, he isn't contributing in any way, shape or form. Think we may have wasted our money on him.

Now that we’ve secured CL could he potentially get some minutes now? I really hope so

Why is it any time a stocky player is off form people talk about their weight? He is not overweight, he has always been built like this.
Because it seems to affect his stamina quite badly. He can't go 75min, which means people are going to look into it and try and figure out why, which is where weight becomes an easy and obvious target.

It's also not necessarily about fat - carrying too much muscle is also a big problem for footballers, generally.

He has lost all of the intensity he used to play with and now just looks very ordinary. Is AFCON to blame or is it that he is no longer training as hard as he did at Brentford?

Never really thought he played with intensity? What he did have was a refined technique and was very consistent with every touch and pass. Just did the basics really well but nothing was "exceptional" or "intense" IMO.

He’s had ups and downs in his first season, same as Sesko, same as Cunha, I’ve said this before. He 100% needs a goal, same as Amad. One must bounce in off his ass at some point.

I think he’s done enough to show he can be a very good squad player. I’d start him next season, if he improves excellent, if not we need quality from the bench and he can provide that.

Thought this was the whole point in buying Premier League "proven" players? We need that instant impact with no adjustment season, it's exactly why you pay that premium.

Look at highlights from his Brentford days to this season. He's been poor and nowhere near worth 60m+

He pressed really well for Brentford I thought.

As you can see he wasn't always built like this. It is pretty obvious in his game (compared to last year) that he lost a bit of his mobility and pace.
