Bryan Mbeumo | 2026/27 Performances

He had excellent pre-season, and if he's serious about being considered solid player, he'll take some criticism, and turn into results... and Carrick badly needs results as means of survival.
There are people talking about him getting sold etc. Every player needs to work on their game but even now he contributes and is part of an attacking unit that should get the job done most week

Hull and Ipswich were so called easy fixtures. Let's see what he can do vs City, that includes other players in squad too.

As long as he scores, he'll be considered strong option, but seriously speculations about selling players should be nothing new in a big club. In the past, you had people entertaining discourse about letting Giggs, Veron, or Rooney go.

I still love him. Don't think you will ever get the best of him on the right wing in a 442, but he will still find ways to be productive and gives our attack something that the rest of the squad don't.

What's "lots of goals"? About 12 PL goals a season is what I'd expect.

He's basically always been a 10 to 12 goal forward. The clowns who saw 20 at Brentford and didn't notice the penalties were the only ones getting excited about spending £70m on him.
70 million gets you barely anything nowadays - Gordon, Elanga, Savinho for 90, Gakpo bid rejected at 80.

Mbeumo was a quality signing for the price, even if he gives us 12 PL goals a year

If we didn't already see him scoring big goals in big games for us then there would be merit in what you say.

That's not exactly what he is criticised for. It's still has to be Bruno to wake up entire team, because before that he had serious problems with simple things like controlling the ball.

Not just him, but some players needs learn to take initiative without Bruno being involved in almost everything, and the fact that Amad, and Lacey waiting on their chances means he can't feel safe on his position by definition.

People still on this guys case?

Already got a goal, should have had a couple. Let’s see others chipping in before we bin off a genuine goal scorer.

Leave him alone guys. He was gif sh*t most of the game but still scored a goal. We don’t have many players who can do that.

He scored a brilliant goal but I thought he was bad. Loose touches, didn't take his man on and the worst part was that they kept doing 1-2s on his side. Apart from the sudden burst he made for the goal, he just doesn't look fit at all. Terrible time for Amad to get injured as he is easily above Mbeumo at just the basics at this point.

Problem with Amad he has very little end product.

Was crap other than the goal which is generally the case with him. Was a good goal though, he’s been poor in all three games but has two goals and probably should have scored against Hull as well.

Amad has scored a hattrick for us, so it's not like he has zero end product. Mbeumo is a better finisher but what good is that when he hardly gets into those positions due to being poor in the buildup? At least Amad can keep a ball under pressure, go both ways and inject some urgency in our pressing. Mbeumo in this form is a liability more often than not.

Lovely finish but yeah his 1st touch and passing leaves a lot to be desired. Thought today his passing was way better then it has been but think it's just a given he's a finisher now. Hopefully he can match his Brentford goal tally then it's sort of acceptable to have a player like that but do feel slightly undersold on him after reading about the player we where getting compared to the player we've got.

He needs to be able to goals and assists, I have no issue with him but without those pressing is only worth so much.

His first touch is awful, and his all round game isn't the best. He basically needs to be scoring/assisting most games to justify his place in the team - which in fairness, he does most of the time.

If you could combine him and Amad, you'd have a top top winger.

Great goal today, and exactly the sort of goal that we need him to score more regularly. It is pretty much the staple goal for top wingers and if that is what he wants to be, he needs to do that more often.

Feel like his overall play and technical ability have regressed something serious

Looked considerably tidier a few years back

If he doesn't score or assist then it feels like we're playing with 10 men. So many loose touches which lead into so many lost possessions (him and Cunha did my head in today in that part).
Can't win a duel to save his life, it seems. During 1st half the right side seemed like a black hole where ball went and came back via Everton in possession.

Was saying to my brother today that im not a huge fan of him as i think hes not that good a footballer. But I said that as long as he has pace and continues to score then he won’t be dropped. But he needs to up his overall game significantly

I'd like to see more from his overall game too, but a wide poacher who causes problems with his pace and movement and nicks important goals can still be a good piece of a winning team.

The likes of Trossard, Jota, Ferran Torres etc all contributed to winning big trophies in the recent past. I think Mbeumo is in a similar mould.

I said last year his general play wasn't good when he was being compared to Berbatov. People disagreed so I checked the stats and as well as losing the ball cheaply here more than anyone, he had the same problem at Brentford the season before which is regarded as his best season.

This is just the player he is. Someone who can't dribble, can't play under pressure and in tight spaces, will lose the ball cheaply a lot, but will work hard and provide a goal threat due to his excellent movement off the ball.

Utter madness

Comparing him to Berbatov?

I agree with what you're saying and I think we were both in agreement ever since he was signed, that he wasn't good enough for a team that aspires to compete for the biggest titles domestically and in Europe. He's a limited player in open play.

It's never about how much money you can spend but rather about how you spend the money you have. And the money that they have had to spend in the last few years has been spent badly because there's no focus on improving the systematic approach to make us play more proactive football.

I think in a year or so we will look at him & Cunha as being pretty poor buys - they don’t really suit being out and out wide players.

I’m also surprised by how slow Mbeumo looks at times - he scored a great goal but other than that was pretty anonymous
