Bryan Mbeumo | BBC: Brentford reject bid of 55 + 7.5m

Whenever a transfer drags on out like this for us, it's a bad omen.
It’s not because the player doesn’t want to come to us though. If this falls through it’s likely because we refuse to bend over to the demands of the other club - which is only a good thing.

Can’t really make out what Brentford are doing but Utd are not helping by chasing every price Brentford bring up. Time to put in a final take it or leave it bid and walk if not accepted.

I do hope we know when to refuse. The problem is that in this banter era, we are more likely to overpay way over the odds than walk away, and then later we wonder why it always turns out a disappointment.

I might've missed it, but how is the proposed transfer payments structured by United? If they spread the 55M over 5 years + 7,5 mil. for Mbeumo to win the CL/WC/Premier league in 1 season, i can imagine Brentford not too keen.

We rarely know that level of detail, even if a transfer has been agreed. Anything you see would be speculation.

Not saying that we'd be in anyway in the race - but would people prefer to sign Mbemuo, Rodrygo (if leaves Madrid) or keep Amad at RWB and get Dumfries?

Looking at the overall packages, age, wages, PL experience and so on, Mbeumo takes it for me.

That changes if we talked about a CM or CF for me

I really like Rodrygo, but I think Mbuemo just seems like a better immediate fit. He's got so much league experience over the other signings and his wages would likely be the smallest too.

People news to chill. How many times have we been though this? If it happens, great if not, move on. Would be great to get him but really important we aren't seen to be a soft touch. Arguably more important than actually getting him for whatever Brentford demand in the long run.

Also - if there were significant updates I wouldn't be surprised if we were holding off/asking journos to keep it under wraps given the tragic Jota news/the funeral is today. Would be an ugly look if we were to fill up the headlines today.

I recon we’re waiting for the money from the Elanga sale to put the extra few mil forward

Whilst I agree in general, there's definitely a line where we have to move on. We can't have another Ugarte scenario signing as the season starts, which basically only saved us £5m (if that)?

Might be a bit too late. The fact that 5 United players asked to leave was on the main banner on Daily Mail.

We need to make a final bid and move on. It seems we are waiting to see how other activity adds up before making the bid. Probably waiting to see our sales and other position targets will cost before finalising this one. We still need a Striker and CM.

If that's the case then we should've moved on to other targets long ago

Its absolutely ridiculous that we are still haggling over this 1 day before pre-season starts, the player wants to come and Brentford have apparently been clear about what their demands are for him yet we still havent either reached an agreement or walked away to focus on other targets.

The lads are back in training on Monday and this is going nowhere. Nothing has changed with our recruitment, hasn't it? Whether we pay it or move on, we should be more decisive.

Where did the "stop moaning, this is clearly done and they're waiting for July 1 to announce it" crowd go? ;)

Madness how long this is dragging out. To think we were thinking of a few others as well and we can't even get this one over the line.

He's basically going into the season with practically the same squad that failed him and couldn't adapt.

Yes, the thought that he actually has to do his job and coach a squad is scary, agreed

Been gone for a week. No Mbeumo, no Györkeres.
Rashford, Sancho, Garnacho, Antony still at the club. Ah I see, the big nothingness continued. Lets check back in in 7 days :)

Yeah it’s like when you have those employees that no matter how many times you tell them something, teach them how to do something and they just can’t get it. I mean what else is there to do in that situation.

  • Joshua Zirkzee (striker, from Bologna): July 14, 2024
  • Leny Yoro (defender, from Lille): July 18, 2024
  • Matthijs de Ligt (defender, from Bayern Munich): August 13, 2024
  • Noussair Mazraoui (defender, from Bayern Munich): August 13, 2024
  • Sekou Kone (midfielder, from Guidars FC): August 30, 2024
  • Manuel Ugarte (midfielder, from PSG): August 30, 2024
Why the moaning? We're ahead of the timeline compared to last summer.

Ineos out. Far too slow.

Why? In a world where Jack Grealish went for £100m not long ago and Elanga is about to move for £55m, with Cunha just going for £62.5m, I think Brentford have every right to want closer to £60m up front. Doesn’t mean we’re getting ripped off because of the payment structure

Do you think this was ideal, or was it more likely part of the reason 99% of those players struggled for our first team last season?
