Bryan Mbeumo | BBC: Brentford reject bid of 55 + 7.5m

Why? In a world where Jack Grealish went for £100m not long ago and Elanga is about to move for £55m, with Cunha just going for £62.5m, I think Brentford have every right to want closer to £60m up front. Doesn’t mean we’re getting ripped off because of the payment structure

When you compare it to those fees I'd say we are actually getting a very good deal.

I'm confident that this gets done, people just need to be patient.

Its absolutely ridiculous that we are still haggling over this 1 day before pre-season starts, the player wants to come and Brentford have apparently been clear about what their demands are for him yet we still havent either reached an agreement or walked away to focus on other targets.
It’s better to walk to the right decision than run to the wrong one, or whatever.

I mean that’s not true is it

What part? Only Mazraoui lived up to or exceeded his reputation and if they had more time to settle before the season started it would clearly have made things easier on them. It doesnt excuse other factors, they should still have played better regardless but I think Cunha is probably going to have an easier time, slowly transitioning from Wolves to United then preseason and then the season than the players we sign this month and next

Disagree totally.

The bigger issue for the squad was the managerial change.

Bad form for an ITK. You can't be making guarantees like that. I believe this guy has sources based on what he posted about Fletcher but come on. Silly.

  • Joshua Zirkzee (striker, from Bologna): July 14, 2024
  • Leny Yoro (defender, from Lille): July 18, 2024
  • Matthijs de Ligt (defender, from Bayern Munich): August 13, 2024
  • Noussair Mazraoui (defender, from Bayern Munich): August 13, 2024
  • Sekou Kone (midfielder, from Guidars FC): August 30, 2024
  • Manuel Ugarte (midfielder, from PSG): August 30, 2024
Why the moaning? We're ahead of the timeline compared to last summer.

Ineos out. Far too slow.
The way we usually conduct transfer business shouldn't be the benchmark we measure against.

Not to mention, we finished 15th last season, so there would ideally be a little more urgency this summer.

Yoro was injured but you still included him. What’s the reason for that?

De Ligt had a positive season too.

He wasnt even as good as Maguire. The biggest reputation of our signings and didnt do as advertised. Yoro didnt play until December sure so you can leave him out

Again, disagree. De Ligt, Maz, Yoro all looked good signings for the money involved.

10th worst defensive record, finished 15th and you think De Ligt was worth £38 million? I've got nothing else to say. If you're happy with that you'll be happy when we waste more money.

You think that’s a positive getting deals done in late July/August? This is a big summer for both incomings and outgoings we shouldn’t be talking with Brentford for 4 weeks we need these deals done

This pre season is also a massive factor for the manager to implement his system and training methods if there was ever a time to crack on with signings it’s now

De Ligt and Maz were great signings, great prices also.

Heaven looks to be incredible business given the price and how good he's looked when played.

Zirkzee and Ugarte have had a season to bed in and both looked good in spells. jurys out.

Love Dorgu, Very Raw but I think he's going to be a fantastic player

I hope you’re right, I used to support United and I want them to do well.

But this season was a disaster, hard to have much praise for anyone in a team performing so badly.

I did think Heaven looked good, the bit I saw.

I’ve been surprised Ugarte isn’t any better for you.

Do you think that De Ligt was the reason for the defensive record? I would imagine that Onana’s form and our overall lack of attacking threat was the primary driver for those stats. De Ligt was quite good last season to be honest.

At first I wanted him to come. I've just realized the 'e' comes before the 'u'. How are you supposed to say that?

DO NOT WANT!

As a french guy I read people misspelling as Mbuemo and I'm like "how are you even supposed to pronounce that?"
The "eu" part is pronounced like the "u" in "burn". The rest is straightforward, the M is almost silent like in Mbappé.

I've just been pronouncing it the same way I'd say kinder bueno

Pretty sure if you see him from across the street and yell bueno he wouldn't even flinch, doesnt sound the same at all
Or maybe Brentford's fans had the same issue and he got used ot it.

When a man appraises the trawler, it is not the seagulls that he looks at first

We would have finished higher if we had stuck with EtH and not radically switched tactics. Probably still stuck in our 8th placed ways but no doubt done better. Switching tactics was a temporary detriment to our defense. Hopefully not permanent.

So if they start being successful you'll support them again?

Someone beat you to that. Google AI betrayed me.

Still think the INEOS purchases are underwhelming.
I actually posted in response just a couple of minutes after you, but as a newbie, I've got to wait for mod approval before my post appears. Which can take some time. Honestly, it just discourages me from posting if I'm trying to have a discussion with someone.

Personally I think the INEOS purchases have been significantly better than the previous crew, though obviously that's a pretty low bar. Not saying they've been fantastic, but I think things are trending in the right direction.

It's actually crazy but not at all surprising that after the season we had we have done next to nothing in the window.

The team needs tearing up but we are never capable of doing it. There is always an excuse.

All I'll say is clubs that care about football performance would find a way.

Amorim did terrible last season. There is little reason to expect that to change unless we get him like 5-6 of his own players.

And if we want to hit the ground running they'd have needed to be here for pre season.
Was never gonna happen unless by some absolute miracle we sold the front 4 by start of pre season
Dont think playing the patient game is gonna help our cause here the more players like Elanga you see going for ridiculous sums of money
Seems that yesterday wasn't any kind of deadline and sadly we weren't able to get this done for 7 July

In case it needs saying we were 13th when EtH left and had an expected league place the previous season of 12-13th IIRC. 8th place was flattery in the extreme

Edit: I actually did not recall correctly - it was even worse. Our expected position the prior season was (drum roll please) 15th!
