Cunha was on 120K a week at Wolves - so that makes a little more sense - though still, I thought the days of us paying 200K a week for new players was behind us - guess not!
Bear in mind all signings will be getting wages without CL bonus right now, which might complicate the reported figures

Wasn't Mane a right footer on the left? Does remind me of his transfer from Soton to Pool, definitely took several steps up in his game. Hopefully Mbeumo will do the same IF the batard finally signs for us.
Mane was so two footed I am not sure what his preferred foot was.

The fact that it's been almost a full day and we haven't heard of any rejection yet bodes well you'd think...
Maybe Brentford are taking our approach of walking to the right decision, and will now take 4 weeks to reply.

Err, you've got your early Maguire timeline a bit wrong. The second half of his second season was by quite some distance the best form of his Utd career, and the only time he looked worth what we paid. He was legit up there with Diaz as the best defender in the league during that period (with the caveat that VDV and a couple of others were injured). The injury at the end of the season was a big blow for us going into the Europa final.

His first season was rather inconsistent with some very good performances but also some very shaky ones. He then started his second season absolutely terribly for the first month or two (probably due to what happened in Greece), then improved a bit for another few months before breaking into that career best form in the second half of that season. At that stage we were all thinking that he was developing into the defender we hoped and living up to the price tag. Unfortunately then his third season started and he had that season from absolute hell that turned him into a meme.

The high line / deep line thing makes sense in theory and is what you'd expect, but in practice it's actually been the opposite. If we go back over the six years he's been here it almost perfectly lines up that his best season came in the year we had the highest defensive line (20/21), the three seasons he was decent without being great have all been in the middle (19/20, 23/24 and 24/25), and the two seasons he was terrible in (21/22 and 22/23) were the seasons we played our deepest defensive lines.
Yep.
Maguire was overpriced, I think we can all agree with that, but his playing style fitted well with Oles set up.
And he has shown consistently good form for us in periods.

I don't think the current set up really works for him though but that happens.

Result. One or two more signings needed for this to be a successful summer window, but we can celebrate this one.

To those who say that we are not overpaying:

Elanga: £50M + £5M fee, £80,000 pw (rumored), overall average spent pa.: £14.16M
Mbeumo: £65M + £5M fee, £150,000 pw (rumored), overall average spent pa.: £20.8M
Elanga was a huge overpay for Newcastle. Others like Kudus, Cunha, MGW and Joao Pedro are more fair and where I would've expected Mbeumo to sit in price as I think they are all a similar level.

Madueke and Elanga were overpays, Mbeumo is going to be an overpay but that doesn't mean he'll be a shit signing. I definitely don't think he'll be getting 20 goals a season here though, and think both him and Cunha need a quality CF to play off of.

Great! At least that one is sorted now. 4 installments sound excellent. Good job!
