Can Bruno break the PL assists record? | 4 more to go in 6 games | officially overtakes Nani and Becks

I mean... Isnt that obvious?
Obviously not, because you have people congratulating the decision to move the best no.10 in football to play as a CM

First half of the season version of Rice he wins it. On balance Bruno has been the best player in the league. BUT you can see how the best player in a title winning side of a team who haven’t won a league for more than 20 years gets given the award. It should purely be based on performance but these things do always have a bit of context around them. It’s not always merit.

David Ginola says hello.

Yeh there are times this doesn’t happen, Scott Parker as well, even that season Gareth Bale should have won it. But you could see an English player who is the most important player of the title winning side who hasn’t won for a long time would be given the award because of the wider context. Not saying it should happen, but it wouldn’t be surprising in the least.

Yeah, there's no way £100m would've replaced a world class player in goat mode.

24 goals and 20 assists from open play for Henry in 02/03. What a player.

It almost feels unfair to take that record!

Imagine how many assists Bruno could be on without Amorim putting the shackles on him

I think more to the assists he should have had where our players missed when they were unmarked but yes Amorim didn’t help either.

Sky got their stats wrong, he had two assists from corners. Was watching assist for that season. Obviously still very impressive! Vid for those to enjoy too.

City scored 102 goals when KdB got 20 assists. Arsenal scored 85 goals, or 61 non Henry goals in 02/03.

We have scored 47 non Bruno goals so far.

Henry's numbers are pretty good.

Our 12/13 league win was largely thanks to RvP and it was impressive how much of impact he had but when you look at Salah's number last season, both in terms of goals scored but also assists... Incredible. Should've left for some big money league after that, was perfect way to end his Liverpool career.

There isn’t anyone we can sign to replicate what he does at the moment. Liverpool spent more than this on the highest rated attacking midfield talent in Europe and it hasn’t really worked.

96 chances created this season. No1 in all 5 top leagues.

Monster.

Looks achievable but assists are way harder to stat than goals. Salah was 3 assists away going into the final stretch last season. He proceeded to record 0 assists in 10 games.

The difference is Bruno isn't surrounded by other world class players like those other players were. The fact that he's even close to their numbers is crazy.

One of the few signings we absolutely got right over the last decade.

We're going to seriously miss him when he leaves.

What's the name of that song?

Football was definitely better back then before all this analytics shite fecked everything.

Very one footed wasn't he?

What a player Henry was back then.

Bit confused why "open play/set pieces" is being used like 'penalty goals' when a set piece could be a brilliant perfectly delivered long range cross and a open play assist could be a 3 yard sideways pass to tee up someone else's 30 yard worldy. Doesn't seem to really work as a value judgement. He's also by far the biggest chance creator in the league so it's clearly not just corner spamming.

Because its united and its been such a taking point this season with arsenal. Of course the massive difference is arsenal's tactics are all built around set pieces.

Of course they count, but we have probably the world's best set piece attacker in the world playing for us. Without Casemiro next season, those set-piece assists will not be anywhere near what it is now. To me open play assists will always be more valuable in the long run like open play goals are more valuable than penalty goals when judging strikers.

It's the Pepificiation of football. They can't respect the art of a good set piece. Beckham would probably make them yawn. Nevermind the fact that most good set piece takers, apart from the "knuckleball specialists, also are great crossers and passers.

Someone posted a video of the chances that Bruno has created this season and he's created plenty of great ones from open play that have been absolutely squandered. We're obviously better in front of goal than last season, but we're still far from lethal from open play. And as someone who's rarely at the end of those chances, that's not Bruno's fault.

I dont remember anyone congratulating it. But he can do it. None of our players can do even half of what he can do as a #10 though so we're obviously going to miss him there

Very topical discussion, I don't think it's done to slight Bruno - you'd have to be really dumb to not see a difference between separating penalty goals/goals (which is a fair split) and open play assists/set piece assists (which is interesting to see, but has no real relevance).

Oh yes there was. Never a majority opinion perhaps, but there was definitely people supporting it. Just like there was even more people convinced he's a problem for this team (many of whom will come crawling out again as soon as we hit a rough spot), and even more people who considered it a big mistake not to ship him out this summer. Just look at his average match rating here this season - 5.9. That reflects lots of delusional 3 and 4 ratings.

So you've changed the goalpost there.

Supporting it and celebrating it are 2 different things. 1 says he can do it which clearly he obviously can. The other makes it sound like they're "celebrating" it as if hes better in that position or that he wouldnt be missed as an AM.
He's obviously not better as a CM, but hes better than our CMs however our AMs cant playmake so we'd need 2 Brunos if Bruno is going to play as a CM.

I will admit I thought Cunha would be a better standin for Bruno than he has been. But thats the major failing with playing Bruno in CM is not having players half as good to play as #10s. Cunha and Mbeumo arent, although Mbeumo obviously gets on the scoresheet and Cunha to a lesser degree. They cant be tasked with creating even half as much as Bruno does from AM because hes more than twice the players they are. They can just get some goals. And Mount is even worse.

There were people who not only thought Bruno could be used at CM (I am one of them), but also that he should.
