Can Bruno break the PL assists record? | BY JOVE, HE'S EQUALLED THE RECORD | all comes down to Brighton

Some rival fans mentioned how many of those assists came from set pieces but it's not a valid argument: he's created great amount of chances overall and also played as CM for big part of season. His first assist coming 2nd part of October too.

Hope he can break the record and perhaps score 2 more goals to have 10+ goals scored as well.

Four games to go, two more assist needed for PL record, three to overtake Messi. That would be something.

We were underperforming for half the season also.
The other players played on very dominant teams.

What's your favorite of his assists so far this season?

I think the one vs. Fulham for Sesko to win the game is tough to beat. That confidence and creativity to do the dummy in that situation was magical. I also think the through ball to Sesko vs. Burnley away was great - just perfect weight and accuracy.

Either the assist vs Fulham or the volleyed cross at Anfield.

It's not like the other players on the list did not have the option to take free kicks or corners though, many did. Will be amazing if he can do it vs Pool.

I honestly can't remember them all. Looked for a compilation and couldn't find one.

Surely there will be a compilation when he breaks the record. We could do a poll on here for it!

Ironically, Bruno's almost assist compilations (of which there are many) are almost better than his assist compilations. But the downside is that you will pull your hair out, obviously.

Cunha vs Villa was awesome

He's created 114 chances so far so I imagine it's quite the video!

Just behind in the league is Rice...with 61 chances created.

I’ll get anxious if he doesn’t get one vs Liverpool. Asking him to get 2 in last 3, I feel teams will feel we’ll be predictable in funnelling to Bruno.

The Liverpool game could suit us as we'll sit deep and counter like against City and Arsenal. Bruno could pick them off with his passes like he did in the aforementioned games where he got an assist in each.

One of Casemiro or Maguire will bundle one in from a set piece.

This one is just missing the last three, I believe:

So that would be for Casemiro vs. Leeds, for Cunha vs. Chelsea and for Sesko vs. Brentford not in that video.

Gotta be careful, there were times when he was looking for the pass when he would have very likely scored himself.

I doubt he can get 3 in the next game. And I'm sure he can't prove me wrong.

My favourite goal is definitely Dorgu's, but assist... it's out of City, Villa and Chelsea for me. I love the way he sells the defender against City, him beating Garnacho and picking out Cunha to shut Stamford Bridge up was great, but he made the Villa pass look so easy.

The more I think about it, the Liverpool and Fulham ones are right up there as well!

Villa maybe edges it right now

You're right but even if the chances he's been creating were solely from set pieces, it still wouldn't take away from the achievement itself. @Mockney addressed this on a previous page:
Bit confused why "open play/set pieces" is being used like 'penalty goals' when a set piece could be a brilliant perfectly delivered long range cross and a open play assist could be a 3 yard sideways pass to tee up someone else's 30 yard worldy. Doesn't seem to really work as a value judgement. He's also by far the biggest chance creator in the league so it's clearly not just corner spamming.
I'm sure if you looked at the games he got set piece assists in, you'd also see him setting up teammates in general play, too.

In his performance just gone, look at how he puts Amad and Mbeumo through:

I also found a compilation of his chances created which @Scandi Red mentions above:

Look at how many great chances he creates from open play. If our other players finish a few of them off, those opposition fans trying to downplay his achievement would be very quiet.

Never mind the opposition fans, some of our own fans have been, let’s say, less than gracious.

Anyone got a breakdown of assists per player? I’d assume Casemiro and Sesko make the bulk

It is also worth noting that Rice has taken over 100 set pieces (93 corners) for Arsenal in the Premier League this season. Szobozlai has taken over 100 set pieces (86 corners) for Liverpool. If it was straightforward enough to get set piece assists, then they would have done it, but neither of them have registered even half of Bruno's assist numbers. It is a desperate attempt from rival fans to downplay Bruno's excellence.

I agree with what both of you are saying. Just also adding that Bruno has been creating huge amount of chances in general, so it's a weak argument from them. Guy's been chances creating machine for more than 6 years in PL.

Shows how difficult it is.

Micheal Olise is actually on 20 for this season also so can break the record.

Just had a look at the team goals scored out interest, Bayern 113 versus United's 60.

Obviously helps to an extent if you're in a very dominant team like that, makes Bruno's achievements look better contextually in one way. Bruno assisting for 31.7% of ours, Olise 17.7% of Bayern's. Bruno might be on 35 or over if playing for them! Doesn't quite work like that of course, but still got to think he'd have an improved chance of getting even more than he has done in a team like that.

To be fair to Olise, Bundelsiga teams play fewer matches so there's that and always will be for any German teams when comparing records across leagues, and he has personally played 2 games less than Bruno this season in their respective leagues. Then there's the not so small matter of actually having to be a player that Bayern wanted to buy, and with so many great attacking players they're probably a lot less of focused of funneling everything through one player as much as we do.

Would imagine Bruno is in the team that has scored the fewest when it comes to any of the players near the top. Barcelona (Messi) often scored around 100 or more, Muller's probably came in another dominant Bayern season etc.

I hope he goes for at least 23/24 assists. If not I don’t see that record standing as long.

Set pieces and the lower emphasis on watertight defenses will give the next half baked maverick a shot.

I hope he gets the record. He's already a United legend. If he takes the assist record he becomes an EPL legend.

Unfortunately for me, I may end up missing today's game. If so, I hope I come back here to see that @top1whoisman has bumped this thread again!

Like I said in the match day thread:

Bruno got his 1st assist of the season away to this lot

Will he equal or even break the record in the reverse fixture? Find out on the next episode of Dragon Ball Z!

It would be a very fitting game to equal - or even break - the record.

So irrelevant. Third and a strong end to the season is more important.
It's a team game. Not just individual stats..
