Wasnt this game supposed to be an easy game? He wasnt fine at all today
It wasn't an easy game though. These congested games where the opposition turn up the heat, he's either giving it away or chasing shadows leaving us backtracking. He missed his tackle nearly every time he pushed high up win the ball early.

He’s not the total liability of last season and he will have his moments but the fact his top speed is a brisk waddle is going to consistently be a problem.

Everyone was on Neville's back all week. He was 100% right about Casemiro not needing to travel around the world

Personally I feel he's been in very good form recently but last night was another indication of him and Eriksen being unable to evolve once the tempo is raised. They couldn't handle it.
He's still a great player though but he's came into the league at such a poor time in his career, especially if he's going to be utilised as a instant starter.

Great player but he's another indication of poor longterm recruitment.

We have to find a way to offload him in the summer.

I got the vibe that in the summer Saudi Pro League were being very careful with who they signed to ensure the image of the league didn’t become simply a dumping ground for washed past-its looking for a final pay day.

My guess is there was Saudi interest but from an optics perspective they held off due to quite how bad his form was, and not wanting to look like a charity to the likes of us. If this is in any shape true, we gotta hope Casemiro has a good season to make him less of a PR disaster.

Man Utd 3:2 FK Bodo/Glimt New
He’s a liability wherever he plays, not only conceded a FK but gave the ball away with his usual inability to play simple ball. And why did he keep playing those aimless long ball to our forwards?

It was trough ball, he took a risk and it payed off.

Why does he have to play the passes first time so much? Take a fecking touch Case

No legs any more so he definitely wont fit this system. 20 minute cameos at best from now on.

He looked good playing with Ugarte under Ruud. We should continue playing them as a pair, and his goal threat will come in handy in this formation.

I never want to see Casemiro in that position again. Whatever strengths the guy may have left, playing centre back isn't one. He wasn't positionally disciplined enough. You could see he was scared of being outpaced and would drift deep or to one side to give himself a head start if he needed to race someone, but that just left gaps around the defence.

Even weirder was how he refused to show for the ball for Onana. The keeper spent most of the game doing wall passes off De Ligt to get moves started. Then Casemiro came on, and you could see Onana gesturing to Casemiro to come and receive the pass, but he just wouldn't. No idea why.

Add in the panicked long passes straight to the opposition and the potentially costly handball at the end, and I think it's fair to say he should stay in midfield.

Yeah, no more of yesterday, please. He is not a defender. He will struggle in this system, but could still be good alongside Ugarte. I think he will leave in the summer, though.

Man Utd 4:0 Everton New
He’s a walking car crash in this formation. Doesn’t have the legs to press high and gets done when the opposition manage to break the lines.

Tired of watching him on his arse missing tackles. Guess that short run of good form was a mirage. Probably ok for easier games like this, but still could have easily cost us a goal with his defending in transition. His security on the ball is also a level below everyone else on the team.

Uguarte and Mainoo will surely be the partnership going forward, this guy just doesn't have the legs for this system.

He treat the ball like a grenade in that first half. Really worrying given he’s likely to start against Arsenal.

I am not sure, I think it’d be Bruno to pair with Ugarte against Arsenal, with Mount and Garnacho as 10s.

He also really struggles with the ball in tight spaces. You could see at times Amad, Mazraoui, and Mainoo were trying to get some give and goes in the build-up but he really isn’t comfortable doing it

Will turn 33 in few months so probably going to be sold in summer (if there are Saudi clubs interested by then). Still can be useful for next 6 months.

Yeah this system just exposes everything he's bad at these days. Oh well, can still play a role in this season but I certainly don't see any world in which in a preferred midfield pairing.
I genuinely don't see what else he's being asked to do compared to the previous "systems". We are not being hit in transition (like under Ten Hag), the counters we suffered were mostly direct balls that the defenders struggled with (in terms of pace). What actually happens is the opposition is able to run past Casemiro in midfield and is targeting him whenever he's isolated.

He looks super heavy (I'd bet he gained a few pounds compared to beginning of the season) and seems to me very uncomfortable in possession. I don't see the "system" changing here, he just is in bad shape or simply too old. He never was a nimble ball carrier like Matic, so he is close to being useless as as a DM at the moment.

That said, he will most likely be used as a more of an attacker in that midfield duo. He still has a good vision and passing IMO.

His best spell here was that first season where he was genuinely excellent most games in a classic double pivot in front of a back 4 where we didn't press much and tended to sit in a mid block and he could rely on his physicality and reading of the game instead of having to play some higher tempo/more shuttling type role. Even at his peak he's always been a pretty shit ball carrier/dribbler and isn't some pint point progressive passer (has a good eye for a creative pass mind you).

But, disregarding that shitshow of a "system" we had last season, Amorim generally likes athletic runners with technique in the middle of the pitch. They need to be able to drive through the midfield with the ball and cover ground off of it, but don't necessarily have to be Toni Kroos in controlling/passing. It's why Ugarte worked so well under Amorim at Sporting, as he's pretty mobile and a relentless defensive player that is also quite comfortable carrying the ball through the middle but isn't a great passer ( and didn't have to be).

Obviously he's too old, and my appraisal was one of current Casemiro and not the player he used to be.

CMs are not pressing high though. We don't face many transitions, we actually keep the ball much better due to 3 CBs good on the ball and very wide wingbacks. I genuinely don't understand how this system exposes him more than any other. He looks like he should not be playing football at this level/this country and that's the end of story. He can't cover ground anymore. Unless we play 3 man midfield in which he is protected then he will be a problem. What's the point of having a once-great DM if you actually need another DM to cover for him? I think he's cooked and I do question his application a bit, he seemed to give up somewhere mid last season and he's actually looking similarly lost right now.

Yeah agree. This talk of system under Amorim is pundit led and some have bought into it. His role is really no different.

There is no midfield "system" that allows a player to be sluggish or immobile. Not at this level.

Find me a manager or fan who doesn't want that.
