Casemiro plays well when Amorim adjusts his defensive shape and approach to defensive transitions. Its that simple. We know what the man's limitations are. When we play in a more compact way and Casemiro can spam balls in behind it brings out the best in him. As long as we're not expecting Casemiro to recover from being caught ahead of the ball he'll do fine. Don't make him defend lots of territory, don't leave him isolated in duels or up the pitch, and you'll get what you paid for: A quality defensive midfielder who excels at sweeping up in front of your defence.

His best performance for some time, tonight. Has some fight in him and moved the ball well.

What he gives the midfield is something that was only witnessed when he played with Ugarte under Ruud and that's balance.

He's played well positionally for two games on the bounce. His understanding of the game has allowed Bruno to burst forward on occasion. Not sure why he wasn't integrated more during Amorim's first few games but he's still the best midfielder at the club.

Still some meat left on the old bones. Fair play, chunky cheek.

Really good performance but also that pass to Bruno before 1st penalty is why we've said Casemiro could be useful for us for rest of the season, especially in Europa.

That stare he gave Dalot said it all on his commitment. Good game with some nice forward balls.

seems like Ugarte surplus to requirements, just an utterly bizare signing because even when Casemiro's goes back to his usual level we then have this talentless shin kicker who is scared to pass forward. Let's hope Casemiro keeps it up

He should be perfect ahead of a back three - at least one of them can push higher to help close space, which leaves Casemiro with less ground to cover. With Mazraoui and Heaven, we have some pace at the back as well.

I think we simply play better football with Casemiro. He's a better and more progressive passer than both Mainoo and Ugarte. He lacks the legs of Ugarte, and he has never been fast, but he's very strong, so if he can get close to players, he often does well. Also, he's not too bad in slow bursts - it's those long runs where he's terrible.

He'll be gone in the summer. Sir Jim is hell bent on cost savings so high earners will be moved on.

Hopefully we get a few more good performances out of him.

Really good tonight.. He's got an aura and a presence around him, and always fancy him to disposess an opponent when they least expect it.

Ugarte and Casemiro are two different type of midfielders.

Ugarte goes forward to defend whilst Casemiro positions himself to defend by waiting for the attack to enter his area.

It allows us more of a balance between our more attacking CM because we have a more defensive CM to cover his position.

Ugarte is good but he needs to play with a more deep lying playmaker than Bruno who is energetic and all over the place which leaves holes in our midfield when Ugarte presses up for his tackles.

Looking like Amorim unfroze him and he’s realised how to use Casemiro effectively. Hes been really good the last few games. Arsenal he was exceptional and tonight too.

Yep Amorim said in post match that he's learned how he should use Casemiro now, so hopefully there's value to unlock yet.

Uncle has a great pass on him.

Really good tonight. Some excellent passing. He's still got the class when his legs aren't being shown up by the pace and power of PL matches.

He has that quarterback pass in him. Good game tonight, minus. That hot potato ball back to Heaven.

If it was for better control from Bruno and Zirkzee on some of those passes, he would've had an assist.

I say it time and time again, when not horribly exposed by tactics, he's still a very good player. No question for me that he's still our best midfielder when the system is right, and no fecking surprise whatsoever we're better at defending set pieces again with him in the team.

Amorim agrees with you. It's all about the setup.

I was baffled by Amorim apologising for not being so open at the weekend. You gotta play the hand you are dealt.

Some relatively minor adjustments to his approach has players like Casemiro suddenly looking like they have something to offer.

What the actual fek. The fact Casemiro has been solid in last few games doesnt mean Ugarte is surplus nor a bizarre signing... Car crash of a post.

I don't think he was apologising but moreso saying in the long term he wants us to dominate games. But yeah play the hand your dealt Ruben.

Ugarte has been injured.

He has value to add, we should play him more because I dont think his legs are gone in this role.
If you get more physical and energetic players like Dorgu, Heaven, Yoro behind and around him, he can focus on using his experience to plug gaps. He's also quite good at direct passes from deeper areas.

This sounds so funny

And yeah, I didn’t quote your message in full but we’ve paid for the guy who did excel at defending lots of territory, it was his biggest strength at Madrid.

I think this also goes hand in hand with INEOS all but signalling Casemiro as everything that's been wrong with the club under previous management. Over 30, massive wages, sizeable transfer fee. They've been trying to get him out before they even took their coat off and sat down. Seeing as he's decided he's not going anywhere, he's being reintegrated back into the first team and now Amorim is looking for a way to get the best out of him when previously he wasn't about to set up with a player that wasn't going to be around in a couple of months.

Personally I think this type of character is exactly what we need on the field. You can say what you want about his legs but there's no reason he can't stay deep and have an impact on the game, we weren't asking a 38 year old Paul Scholes to get up and down the pitch, we shouldn't be asking Case to either.
