You're absolutely spot on and that is the problem that needs rectifying. Our first two goals came from long balls over the top and we played a team who set out to play higher up the pitch and they couldn't defend the transitions. The ball over the top was a big issue for them and our backline was mostly instrumental in progressing the ball forward. But I'm glad Amorim kept Casemiro on because otherwise we wouldn't have had a chance at all because at the very least, he (Casemiro) plays with courage and wants to get the ball forward.
Fair play, very good performance from him.
Him and Bruno our most effective attacking midfield pair. It's a shame that his legs are gone but class is permanent. Well done Case.

Casemiro played with his big boy pants on. His body may be slowing down but the guts to stand up in bad circumstances are still there. Boy do we need more of what he's got.
If you'd have said a few months ago that Casemiro would play a full 120 minutes and look like one of the only players who didn't look knackered then I'd have called you crazy. He's clearly lost a few pounds and looking like a far better player because of it.

You're correct he does have that ability. The problem is that against physically imposing teams, we don't score some of the goals we did today. And against those teams (mainly in the EPL) we need need more than just vertical passing and it has to be backed up with pace and athleticism out of possession imo. I'm not asking for Rodri, Carrick or Kroos but it would be nice to have all-rounder midfield players like the ones Liverpool have had and currently Arsenal. Players who can play the box to box role and are a positive both in-possession and out of possession.

He’s been mostly good after ETH left and Casemiro wasn’t asked to cover the area of Manhattan by himself.

Amazing game from Casemiro. He was our MOTM tonight and he was the one who made the true difference. He caused the penalty for us and he provided two crucial assists to Mainoo and Maguire. We also have to give him a credit for playing 120 minutes at 33.
