Are you OK ? Of course we start him in the final.
I’m perfectly fine. Just asking to see if anyone else is concerned about his general form against PL teams. And whether the fact we play them in a final would come into the minds of those picking the squad.

It’s a perfectly reasonable worry about most our team to be fair, considering what’s transpired this season.

Another big performance in big game. But we'll need another one this season. Was afraid he could get a 2nd yellow and get sent off but every tackle was clear and spot on.

We’ve sorted our midfield. Amorim has adjusted and there are no gaping holes. He’s vital for our success.

I love how much he seems to care about winning the Europa League with us, having already won 5 Champions Leagues with Madrid. Credit to him for working on his fitness and forcing his way back into the starting lineup. I now have no concerns about him sticking around for another year (didn't think I'd be saying that a few months ago).

The attacking threat he provides at set-pieces is very valuable.
He definitely is. It comes at a cost though. I think, he contributed a lot to the nervyness of the first part of the game. He is a threat at set pieces, no doubt about it but I struggle to see that "big turnaround" others seem to see. I doubt Amorim will play against Spurs as he did play today against a team that was obligated to attack. Spurs are also more intense and won the midfield battles in all our games this season (iirc). Casemiro is fantastic against the ball - but he needs to get close enough to the ball to be effective.

That sounds more like looking at the results instead of the performances.

He looked out of his depth until Everton away, and he even started that match horribly until his assist to Ronaldo. But agree on the rest, he looked cooked after the league cup and Palace red.
I didn't mean literally from the first game, yeah, it took a bit to get him going. But when he did, it was scary in a good way — before the momentum went away (I blame the red cards mostly). He had a good three-four months during which he looked like one of if not the outright best player in the league, he was untouchable. He plays well now, especially in Europe, but it's nowhere near that level.

At some point this season he decided not to let his career go down without a fight, and has turned in some much improved performances, but he still has glaring deficiencies that are on show every match, his legs giving out after ~60 minutes, he's dominated by the physical midfields we come up against in the PL. I sadly expect him to get completely overrun by Spurs.

I thought he didn’t have a good game, him and Ugarte were chasing shadows for a lot of it. But he stuck at it, which is something he wasn’t doing before or maybe wasn’t able to do. Finished the game well and got another goal.

Has an uncoachable knack of being on the end of crosses. Which is valuable.
Overall game today I thought was average. He can be a huge asset for n certain situations but he has clear limitations.
I think he must start the final but might be the first guy subbed if it isn’t working

Yep. I like the turnaround and he's likely getting picked for the final over Ugarte for various reasons (set pieces, experience, form etc) but I think it'll be a mistake.

We also see that Ugarte x Casemiro doesn't really work very well offensively even if they shore up the defence.

It's going to be tricky because we don't have one complete, good all round CM. Each one has their own problems.

Anyway, if we must play him, I hope we go Bruno x Casemiro in the middle with Mount and Amad ahead.

Strange. Casemiro was outstanding. He is no longer who we wish he was, but he is who he is...and he was immense for us tonight.

He’s a fantastic player. Ten Hag hung him out to dry and Amorim deserves credit for utilising him properly.

Casimero, Bruno, Mount and Amad look to be the best option we have (on paper). Ugarte really lacks quality - but could be a good option later on in a game if we are needing to defend a lead. I’m. It sure we have been in that position much this season!

I do worry that Bruno and Casemiro together is far too easy to play through - but can’t see we have anything better.

Saying he was outstanding is strange, he was ok and scored a goal but you’ve got too carried away.

Lots of you wanted him out few months ago. Guy is a winner and a big game player. In this knockout stage he is best player ( Bruno not included :))
I'll be honest I was in the same boat. Tbf it wasn't just about him covering lot of space, he was horrible with his slide tackling/lunging and treated the ball like a hot potato, so many misplaced passes.
He's completely turned it around though, and I love it. So so composed and first name on the team sheet right now. C'mon Case, get us into the Champions League!

He is low key freakishly good in the air. Or is it freakishly effective in how he reads the game and flight of the ball, he just seems to just know instinctively where to be on crosses. Hojlund should be working with him instead of striker coaches.
Wouldn't say low key tbh, he's been our biggest aerial threat for a while now. It's weird cuz he's not the tallest or has the greatest leap, but he just has this gravitas when it comes to attacking set-pieces.

3 assist in those final 10 minutes vs Lyon, two goals over these tie. He's been really helpful.

Such a massive reason why we have a European final to look forward to.

Just need one more monstorous performance from him and he'll secure a cult-hero status.

Him and Ugarte isn't a good pairing against better teams. I think Casemiro can do a job still defensively, but last night he was having to cover larger areas again because Ugarte was caught high up the pitch too often and couldn't recover.

On an individual level though, he has been fantastic recently and I'm glad he's getting some adulation from the fans after a tough time here. He's been colossal in the EL.

Case is having a renaissance. After a slow start to the season, it looked like he was on his way out of this club. However, in the last couple of months he's been brilliant. He was our key player in the Lyon comeback where provided two assists and yesterday he was one of our best players on the pitch where he scored a header. A lot of people wanted him to be sold (including me) but I want him to stay for one more year. We need more experienced players for the next season because our squad is generally very young and inexperienced.

Unless a decent offer id have him see out his contract. One more year right?

You can tell he really loves this club.

I love that players like him and Schweinsteiger come from big clubs and have won everything and get absolutely attached to our club despite not being at their best.

And no it’s not a money thing.

Him and Varane really took to life at the club and embraced the experience even after accomplishing it all at this level.

It's a shame for us they couldn't have experienced it much earlier

Definitely think for the older generation of players, they still hold the club in extremely high regard and you always hear the appreciation and reverance in their memories of OT.

Will always have love for the players that genuinely love playing for and being a part of United and aren't just collecting a check.

There were several posters, myself included, that commented on Casemiro's enduring value to the squad. Most of us were shouted down by the "he's useless", "his legs are gone", "he's a waste of space", "a terrible signing" brigade. However, as he has transitioned from being misused under ETH, to finding the right balance for his role under Amorim, we have seen how valuable he remains for us. He has been one of our best players over the second half of this season, and in all likelihood while he could be moved on due to his wages and age, he would remain an important and valuable player next season if he stays beyond this summer.

Frankly, going into next season with Casemiro and Bruno as our starting two in midfield, is something I would be very happy with, especially when we have Ugarte and Mainoo as two younger options to regularly rotate them with. The key here will be bringing in another 10, who can allow Bruno to make that permanent transition to CM. Given the age of Case, as well as Bruno, it is important we bring in another CM in the summer, as we start to make that transition from an ageing legend to a long term solution. It will also give us the flexibility to use Bruno as a 10 whenever we need/want to.

If it wasn't for injuries, the central quartet of Casemiro, Fernandes, Mount and Amad, is top class. With each player playing in their optimal position. We need two players for every position, with each player being good enough to start, offer a real alternative in that position and provide top level competition for places. If our other quartet is Ugarte, Mainoo, Cunha, and Garnacho, I feel that does exactly that. To compensate for injuries, and unexpected difficulties and/or dips in form, we need a 5th player in each position. In the 10 that can be Zirkzee, but in CM I think we need to sign a player who is ready to step into the starting line up and potentially take over from Cas. My eye has always been on Ederson.

Agree with everything except I'd have Baena over Ederson

He's a serial winner, for sure. I don't think he cares one jot about the Europa being a level below the Champions League. We're still in it, he wants to win. Every night he gets back home, races his missus to the bedroom, a couple of minutes later he's jumping up and down claiming victory for finishing first, and she's just applauding him thinking "what a guy!"

The women in my life have always considered that a very dubious honor.

Unless an outrageous offer comes in for Casemiro, I would not get rid of him. He can’t and should play 40 games for us next season, but we will need his craft if we aspire to win a major trophy next season.

But if we decide to burn it all down and rebuild, of course there’s no room for Casemiro for a multi-year rebuilding project.

He's been one of our best players this season but I think we obviously move him on in the summer if we can. His wages would only make sense if we were challenging for the champions league finals. We shouldnt need a player on those wages to get us back towards the top 4. No other club needs that

So yeah time to see him off while hes still a quality player and will have interest and then its time for the likes of Ugarte to prove their worth.
