Get Douglas Luiz on loan and just loan this guy out to whoever will have him

Casemiro always needs games to get going. I dont think he finds his consistency till 3-5 games into the season.

This we cant afford this season.

We need to get going and intensity from the off. 1 game a week, I think he struggles to get in starting 11 next season.

FFS the guy had a wonderful carreer but he isn't equipped anymore for the PL. How long will it take for some fans to acknowledge it? He still could be used to a decent effect in tight set ups where he isn't required to cover too much ground but if we want to commit to pressing he is the wrong guy. And would have been the wrong guy for at least 5 years or so. Keeping him is another side step that isn't going to help us in any form. Give his minutes to Collyer. If he isn't good enough, then at least we know that we can sell him next year. Minutes to Casemiro, Shaw and Maguire are complete waste of minutes at this point.

He definitely is someone that needs games but 3-5 games is being generous, in his spell here it’s taken him months to get going at times.

Hopefully he’s not going to start many games this season

He’s pretty garbage now - 12 more months and then we can try and forget about this deal.

Be good to get his wages gone next summer and then finally address the glaring CM issue

Yep.

And Maguire too.
I mean I recall people saying he was our best option last season and perhaps even for this season, but I don’t recall anyone but an absolute fringe minority calling for him to be given an extension.

Against Bournemouth he was quite clearly a weak link in terms of physicality and press resistance. On the ball was his usual fare, some great ability and some real sloppiness.

He'll likely be OK for 45 minutes or so each match this season, but we need to look to move him along as soon as possible.

I wish we would give Moorhouse a chance instead. I assume we are playing him to advertise him, noy that he heeds it. He's well known enough

Sadly, Ugarte immediately looked a level below the rest of the team on the ball when he came on. Casemiro will create a chance or 2 for the opposition each game with his sloppiness/cuteness/ambition on the ball but Ugarte will do the same by mishitting passes, not seeing the right one or a lack of composure when he has more time than he thinks. When the other team has the ball it's a big advantage to Ugarte, when we have it you want Casemiro out there.

Worried by what I've seen in the friendlies. He could be a liability if he receives the ball in our half, facing our own goal.

He's quite good at carrying the ball, but he's no progressive passer that's for sure. He can eat up the ground in a way that Casemiro simply isn't capable of, he'll likely play a lot against the better teams in the league, neither are ideal starters for us though.

This is hilarious....writing off a proven winner and player who is also a notoriously slow starter on their performance in a friendly while going to absurd lengths to defend players that are never going to be anywhere near his level like Hoijlund is just mind boggling.

Legend of the game but its time to move on.

I am not basing this only off the friendlies but also the resurgence period last year where there were good things but also bad things.

Casemiro has been average for over two years now. A few decent performances in the Europa don’t change that - the quicker we move him on the better

Should not be starting any games with Bruno in midfield, he's a bit of a liability.

The option is Ugarte. Based on the pre-season and last season games, I'm almost sure that Amorim still prefer a 100 y.o. Casemiro than Ugarte. Which beg a question of why we didn't just actively try to sell Ugarte this window, and get other CM.

I'm surprised if he starts as a first 11 again.
You'll be surprised.

I'm convinced today's 11 was to prep for next week's opener against Arsenal.

The problem is Ugarte actually has to put in some performances to displace Casemiro. And Ugarte has had a couple of shockers in pre season himself, giving the ball away in dangerous areas.

I do think we'll somehow sign Baleba though before the window ends, and that will likely spell the end of Casemiro and Ugarte as first choice players.

Our policy seems to be to give players two seasons before writing them off. I was asking the same question of Zirkzee, seems we're delaying the inevitable to be honest as he'll be sold in the next year or two anyway, like Ugarte.

But I'm not sure how sellable Ugarte is. He's been at PSG and United back to back so he must be on high wages relative to the clubs he could attract if we tried to sell him, and his stock must be pretty low to potential buyers too given his performances, such that we wouldn't fetch a fee that would make sense for us to sell now.

Every team needs to have a good ball winner in midfield available for certain matches or situations. Ugarte with his mobility could also slot in as a CB or further wide in times of emergency. Not ideal, obviously and I don't make a claim, that Ugarte should be starter but why sell somebody when such a role is needed anyways? He is currently the only player we could field, if steele is what is needed for a game.
We probably should have tried to bring in the player with the profile we are looking for right now when we brought in Ugarte instead. And for a player like Ugarte, we probably shouldn't have spent such a high amount. But those things have happened now and as long as we aren't getting any offers that would recoup most of the outlay, I think, there are bigger issues on the priority list than getting rid of one of the very few genuine midfield options we have. He isn't the most well rounded CM, but that applies to every of the available options. And midfield has been an issue independently of him as well.

In his prime he’d be the perfect partner for Bruno in midfield. Problem is he’s not in his prime and in fact 33 years old. That said he’s a much better passer than Ugarte, in other words we need to sign a proper midfielder, a Kante regen would be perfect but they’re like gold dust.

Ok. I can buy that "2 seasons chance" reasoning.

Why are we determined to allow him play out his contract when we should cash in? He gets all the upside and we never recoup any investment.

Who is buying him?
He’s back in the Brazil Squad. He got to a European final. He still has stature in the game. I’m sure the Saudi’s, Spaniards or Brazilians won’t mind.

It don’t even need to be a crazy fee but the idea of zero doesn’t go down well with me. He’s not indispensable.

There was news last year that his agent parked himself in Saudi trying to get someone to make an offer. However, it looks like the Saudi’s didn’t have any interest in him.

No one else will pay the 350k per week of wages. Unfortunately, we are stuck with him for another year. I am surprised though that Amorim keeps playing him - he just seems like a disaster waiting to happen every time I see him play.

Man Utd 0:1 Arsenal
Solid game, great passing.

Still worried about having this guy and Bruno as the main midfield partnership, but he was solid today. Great passing and good energy, only fear is how long can it last for him over the course of a season.
