He’s our biggest threat in the box. If the plan was to spam crosses, why take him off? Take off a CB.

Presumably the yellow card was a factor. Would hardly be wildly surprising if he got a second.

And he tends to get taken off in the second half a lot anyway, because he's auld.

Would be exceptional in an elite team, in a midfield three.
Is an absolute liability who has enough muscle memory to get goals and play in 15 minute bursts of class for us.
Extending would be madness.

He moves like his legs are tied together and today was one of those games where we got exposed and we needed someone who could do a lot more than he is capable of.

He looked absolutely knackered from minute one for some reason

Probably played 4 full games for Brazil in the last 2 weeks.

I would have kept him on, but let him drift forward rather than sitting back to reduce the risk of that second yellow.

Been our second best player behind Mbuemo so far this season. Didn't deserve to be on the losing team today.

Yeah I thought this was the play. Even before the yellow, you add an extra midfielder to basically make use of the extra man. It also frees up casemiro who doesn't need to do last man challenges and can conserve some energy

But nah let's stick with three cbs

Crystal Palace 1:2 Man Utd New
Thought he was really good today. Our best central midfielder by a margin

I think he was atrocious.

He made numerous unnecessary tackles, and most of his passes were off-balance because he lacks any quality under pressure.

Completely agree, I'm starting to think people here don't remember what it means to have good central midfielders. I lost count of how many stupid passes he misplaced in the first half, thought he was drunk

He showed showed calmness on the ball when Palace pressed in midfield which no one else in our team is able to. I thought his passing was reasonable. He always has a rash tackle in him though

I’d like to see he stats for this game. Felt like he gave the ball away a far bit, but also recovered the ball a lot too.

He is just about on the positive side in terms of his performances but he’s always on the edge of being a negative with his last gasp tackles and never really winning any 2nd balls.

You can see how hard he has to try to just about stay in the game which means he never really has any control to his game and everything is done in the last second.

That free kick he gave away at the edge of our box in last min of injury time was heart in mouth time. He does that a lot though, concedes free kicks in dangerous areas.

Yeah always on a tightrope due to having no recovery pace. I’m glad he’s better than he was last season but definitely needs to be upgraded in the summer.

This happens often, we have little composure under pressure in our midfield. He seems particularly fond of a first time pass in the air around the corner.

Glad he was able to play 90 minutes. Seems like we drop quite a bit of stability when he’s for whatever reason been regularly subbed off the 60-70th min mark.

We are going to be in a mess if we don’t replace him accordingly. Feels like we’re bit too reliant on him playing and performing tbh. When he’s off or shite, we’re shite. When he’s good we play good.

If you watch reruns of some of our old games its actually amazing how many times Scholes gave the ball away. He was always playing first time, often difficult passes, but never the less gave it away a lot. Thats not how I remember it either but the evidence is there ..

Blame it on the other player who lost the ball around that area. No way he is letting (or any decent defensive midfielder) is letting the attacker get into the box. Its a chance you have to take.

Some of you have never seen this guy play for Madrid. Not saying he hasn't regressed but some of the comments are bit exaggerated . He always had this issue of losing the ball but he was covered by a world-class midfield partners and a brilliant Defense.

Tbf he’s also pretty much the only player willing to foul someone rather than let them waltz into a free shooting position. It’s actually one of the main things you'd want a defensive midfielder to do - sometimes. I’d have much preferred Yoro or Bruno to bring down Dewsbury Hall in a similar position last week, at any rate.

I think his big benefit is his positioning and covering for Bruno.

Nah, not as much as he does. I do get your point, but he's committing fouls because he can't stay with runners and is late into tackles. Nothing wrong with aggression but he needs to actually win the ball more. His positioning is good, but once a decent player bypasses that, as good players do, he's toast. Our centre mid partnership isn't great, it lacks cohesion, pace and bite, don't confuse committing fouls as controlled aggression. Our defence is exposed every game due to lack of coverage from midfield. In recent weeks, we've seen our mid be overrun by teams like Everton and Forest.

I'm arguing totally out of my stomach, but this is not true for the aging Paul Scholes at least. He had regularly 90% of successfull passes, while playing at lot of difficult and long passes.

Man Utd 1:1 West Ham New
Thought he was quality. Always made the right decision and one game a week is definitely helping him.

Ten Hag basically embarrassed him for a year making him play in midfield on his own.

Today he was a bit of everywhere, very good performance

He was one of the better performers for United tonight but that is not saying much after that turgid display.

Best player on the pitch amongst another lifeless team performance.

I kind of don't like him. He seems more interested in adding a goal or an assist than he is at staying somewhat in position. He is also fully infected in trying to facilitate as many <0.05 xG chances as possible. The shot he made that ended up in front of Dalot being a prime example. Its a testament to how wrong it was to ignore midfield in the summer that Casemiro is still seen as one of the more capable of our midfield options.

He’s still playing in his own. As a midfielder Bruno is the worst in the league by a country mile.

One of our best players this season. Best player on the pitch today even at his age. How good must the Madrid team have been when he was the water carrier of the midfield in his prime? Demonstrates how far off we are from being a good team.

That is your problem as someone who wants to appear neutral you clearly don't like him. These are the facts....he's won the champions league many times and still first choice for Brazil at almost 34 so I'm not sure what else you want?

You lot just talk about his legs and some shitty passing stats and nothing else. Yeah ok where are all the CMs lining up to replace him?

I started my post saying that I kind of don't like him. Not sure how I could be more transparent.

Well for starters I kind of don't care what a player achieved in the past. I wouldn't want to bring in Robbo, Scholes or Carrick, even though they achieved a lot. Casemiro isn't the future and it is kind of a waste of minutes. If he would be so fantastic that there isn't a way around him, I'd get it a bit more but I don't think he is.

I called out not going for one or two CMs all summer and said, going into the season with those options just can't work. I think that didn't get it too wrong. Being a better option than Mainoo or Ugarte isn't the biggest hurdle to overcome.

You shouldn't take it personal if a poster criticizes a player. I am not saying everybody should be critical of him. If you like him and want to enjoy a player who had a great past for another team, go for it. Perfectly fine.
