You can't blame the guy for actually being past it can you? We can only blame the management who somehow think that a Casemiro and Bruno is a midfield that you can build a team around.

That's when we saw his best. No matter how poor Fred was on some departments, he was very energetic and compliment Casemiro the most ever has in our squad.
Indeed, but it was the most functional midfield we've had in years but out of fashion if you will. I liked them in midfield two, Fred was the least of our problems at the time and we should've spent elsewhere.

Don't blame him for that yellow card, he had to do it - the annoying thing is that the rest of our team allowed it to get to a situation where he had to make that challenge.
Surely it's better to force the player to shoot under pressure and on the dribble than to allow them a free kick on the edge of the area whilst inevitably getting booked and ending your involvement in the game. His first instinct to foul as soon as someone gets goal side of him has cost us numerous times now.

I mean he wasn't going to shoot, he could have kept running into our box - none of our defenders were closing him down!

Casemiro probably saw what happened with Semenyo in the first half and probably thought it best to not take a chance.

Our defenders were backing off, their player was getting closer and closer. One shot = Lammens mistiming his jump as always = their goal.

Also a clear sign of managerial stupidity when he’s your best, and you continue to play him in a 2, with a number 10.
I mean, it doesn’t work, hasn’t worked and won’t work, so how about trying a 3…. As if.
Yeah, 1 defeat in 9. We're a laughing stock

I think you’re forgetting which club you support if that stat impresses you after spending 228m in the Summer (the third highest spend in the league).
No wonder we’ve hit these levels with fans so quick to put standards to rock bottom.
Who's 2nd? Sure Liverpool is first.

And I’m adding a little nuance to your response to a question that was asked of me.
Sure, but it's a bit pointless because you don't also mention that we have moved on 90% of our attack in a 6 month period. Or just the fact that we have recruited badly for years so had a bigger need to spend.

You will never apply enough "nuance".

Man Utd 1:0 Newcastle New
Wild decision to take him off. If we’d lost more would have been made of it.

It was crazy indeed, looked like conceding straight away after the sub as well. Amorim really needs to get past his safety blanket of having 5 or 6 defenders on the pitch. It would've cost us if Newcastle weren't so bad tonight

How bad are people's memories? He's only played beyond 70 minutes like 5 times this season he always comes off and surely we don't need to question why?

If he could have played 90 minutes he would have there's no doubt.

Was a bit odd taking him off. Guess he thought he was tiring and also that we have another game in a few days and he needs to be managed.

Because it’s mind blowing my stupid to play a midfield of Ugarte and Fletcher.

It's actually a really good thing that Casemiro didn't have to run himself into the ground for 90 minutes when we have a slightly busier schedule coming up.

Obviously would have looked mental if we lost.

Looked as confused as the rest of us to be taken off so early but as we held on for the win, it’s a brave and good decision in the end as he’ll be fresher for the upcoming games where we desperately need him.

Outstanding performance, huge defensive contribution. Manager right to hook him, he can’t do 90 minutes at this busy time of year.

For the good of our squad we have to stop leaning on a 33 year old (soon to be 34) that can't really play 90 mins of PL intensity - especially against a team like Newcastle. About time Ugarte stepped up a bit and I think he did pretty well considering.

He did well and it was real worry seeing him come off so early. But now we’ve won it is a huge bonus as he’ll be needed against Wolves even more with Mount likely out as well now.

Thought he was decent, but can he go a game without doing stupid shite in front of our box.

I get he can’t do 90, but 60 is surely a bit too soon?

You only had to see the incredulous look from Casemiro to know he was capable of playing beyond 60 minutes. We were camped in as well so it wasn't as though he needed to get through loads of running. It was a bizarre time to do it and Amorim was lucky it didn't backfire

Our gameplay went to shit when he got subbed. It’s not like we had control, but man it became times worse after he went off

He had the same incredulous look when he came off against Bournemouth, he was so confused he put his coat on upside down, but there's no question he needed to come off then.

The look on his face means nothing, the evidence is very clear and has been for years now, he has around 60 minutes of PL football in his legs per match, a bit more when teams give him plenty of rest, and a lot less when he's forced to do lots of running to keep up, as was the case tonight.

Man Utd 1:1 Wolves New
His lack of awareness for such an experienced player is criminal. He's slow, lazy, and uninterested.

They ran rings round him tonight, it was one of those games where his lack of mobility was exploited and he didn’t offer a lot else to compensate.

He’s got 17 champions leagues medals Doesn’t give a feck about these games. Our next midfield signing is so crucial.

I do think he cares but dear me is he slow and catchable when he carries the ball forward. Was Neil Webb this slow?

I gave him man of the match because he won the ball so much. However I dont think any of our players played without problems today. And I was frustrated that he didnt play more forward passes. The same old stuff we see from this team patiently slowly passing it like we have all the time in the world.

6 tackles, 1 interception, very good. Passing was okay but far too little attempt to make something happen. When hes playing next to Ugarte and we're missing Bruno he should be stepping up and offering a bit of creativity and he did not.

Our best player bar Lammens and I see he gets a 4.8 rating in the MD? The only player pushing us forward with a hint of quality. It's a shocking result but, jesus lads, some common sense.

That's all it is though, a hint. He's far too wasteful with the ball in dangerous areas and he doesn't have the legs to make up for losing it. He simply can't be a starter if we are serious about building a team.

Thats just the player he currently is. When the opponent choose a game plan like today and we struggle to execute our own, all the weaknesses are at full display. I don't think, he was good - he won the ball here and there, that is good but he also wasn't working as a pivot in the centre to wiggle ourselves out of the pressure. Thats obviously a team issue and obviously even exaggerated by having Ugarte next to him with the exact same issues but Casemiro creates as many problems these days as he solves. Yes, he'll pop up with a goal here and there. And maybe with a good pass. But he is below par when it comes to mobility and in this league, it shows. We could go around it by having a very controlled style (see Norgaard at Arsenal). But we don't have that - it is always chaos. And it is problematic for us as much as for the opponent.

Every talk of keeping him has to be stopped. I'd rather give his minutes to Collyer who at least can run. We can't and shouldn't select our central midfielders based on the number of goals and key passes they make. And yes, that applies not only to Casemiro.
