He was great today, he thrives in games like this, where we're deeper and more compact. There's less space to cover so his engine lasts longer.

I'd take MOTM away from him for missing from 2 yards out though, that was a howler, luckily it didn't matter.

I don't think it was a bad miss, just smart from the keeper to get his legs up in the way he did from that position when he realised what Casemiro was trying to do.

There's no planet on which not scoring from the position he was in is ever anything other than a terrible miss. 2 yards out, keeper on the ground, plenty of time. It was a howler.

Doesn't detract from a great performance, but it was a dreadful miss, fortunately it didn't cost us.

Watch it again, at first I thought he tried to chip the keeper being too smart. City defender makes contact putting Casemiro off balance, he’s about to fall til he realise he still can get a shot off. He went on his strong foot rather than his weak which made the angle narrow.

Plus I think you’re doing City goalkeeper a disservice, he’s a massive unit and covers the most of the angle. I was impressed with Mbeumo’s finish right in the bottom corner.

Casemiro - what a player. Carried the midfield all season by himself.

Donnarumma is massive, and he did his best to stretch, but there's so much goal for Casemiro to hit that isn't covered by him, Donnarumma is on the ground with one leg in the air, yet he managed to hit that leg with the rest of the goal gaping.

It's an awful finish, Casemiro got a lot spot on today but he made a real mess with the sitter. Still had a great game, but he definitely loses a couple of marks for that.

I think overall Casemiro hasn’t been a bad signing for all the criticism he’s got. And he’s not done yet despite Carragher shit talking him from the moment he arrived. Often players struggle for a while when they lose their pace and rebound once they adapt. Giggs for example was arguably at his worst when he was in his early 30s/lost his pace and was a better player almost at 38. He’s got a great mentality which is half the battle, so I wouldn’t write him off yet.

He'll be incredibly hard to replace.

There are even fewer players or younger prospects with his profile out there, than there are more creative central midfielders.

Tenacious 6es who are dogged in the tackle plus have a quality range of passing seem rare enough at the moment, even before you consider his aerial ability.

I know he's not really been a slam dunk success here for the money paid, but I bloody love this guy. Unlike many other big names we've brought in over the years he clearly loves the grind and he's always giving his all.

No doubt. His body hit an ice berg with the PL openness at his age, but when we manage to stick close, he is golden. Anything that has come out paints him as a model hard working professional.

You said it in one

He will leave a large gap and will need a very good player to replace him. I still think we need another year out of him. Even if we get his replacement in the summer he will still play a key role

can’t fault him for the fee or wages we paid him. But his attitude since he came into the squad is bloody brilliant. He’s won everting at club level and yet still behaves like he’s a young player trying to prove himself and look at him celebrate!

Of the midfield partnership we’ve been playing, he’s also the bigger goal threat between him and Fernandes.

How lucky were Real Madrid to have this guy when performances like today were the norm for him?

What was the xG of that chance, that's what we all want to know

Great player and we'll definitely suffer a bit once he leaves (if only for his presence and aura of a serial winner) - regardless of who replaces him. But it's still the right thing to do as we need a more athletic player that can do intense 90' every few games.

He's probably giving us his last legs, it's a bit of a lucky coincidence we're playing 40 games season and otherwise he'd be cooked.

The amazing performance plus the leap onto Carrick's back buys him another year I think.

He's had a terrific season so far, probably his best for us.

I'd keep him for another season if we're able to agree a deal with him on reduced wages. We'll need the depth if we qualify for Europe next season and Casemiro is still capable as long as his minutes are managed sensibly.

The fact that we knew he was over the hill and old when we signed him, and yet still proves himself to be one of our best midfielders in his time here, is particularly shocking to me.

We must be the only club who doesn't give a damn about the midfield.

A player such as?

i really struggle to think of any players who can near enough do what Casemiro does, but for 90 minutes, who don't already play for one of the biggest clubs in Europe and as such wouldn't be sold to United.

One thing about him, he’s wanted to be here, he could have gone to Saudi by now and made an absolute fortune, he hasn’t. You can tell he loves the club, the celebration yesterday.. he gets it.

Don't ask me, I don't watch much football outside of United and have zero interest in transfer speculations. Problem with Casemiro is he won't be able to play like that if we're in more cups next year (hopefully).

Like I said in the part of the comment you didn't quote, we'll take some hit once he's gone regardless of who replaces him because he's been very good for us this season.

He attempted to sat Donnaruma down and he sort of did it but incredible from the keeper to use his leg still. I think if he had attempted it to shoot first time, it would have been saved

I saw it as a good save from Donnaruma rather than a bad miss from Casemiro

We should keep him for one more year on reduced wages. His nous will be good for Europe

Unless he wants daft wages I think we have to keep him next year. We need two midfielders even with him for me and we're not going to sign three if he does leave.

No complaints either if we do as I think he can be a useful squad player.

Another thing that’s not spoken about is his experience to win a free kick for soft tackles to buy time for the team. Even in situations where he has nowhere to go, he uses his body luring contact and wins a free kick. Good experience, you can tell he learnt that in Spain.

This kind of mentality should stay around the team, even for 2 seasons. Look at Madrid, the oldimers went and now the kids run the dressing room and can't be bothered with running in games.

Question is what constitutes "daft wages".

Even if we halfed his current wages, he'd still be our 5th highest paid player. Which is is a big contract offer to hand someone who will 34/35 years old next season, and who shouldn't be a starter.

So you're likely talking about a greater than 50% pay cut. And he'd also need to be willing to have his minutes substantially reduced, at least in the league.

You would think he'd have more attractive offers elsewhere.

200k a week is under 6 million for the year, far less than the cost of even a temporary replacement who would have to acclimatise to a new club and squad dynamics etc. Unless we have somebody as good as him waiting in the wings, it's a no brainer.

? It's over 10 m a year and it's lunacy to pay that much to a player who should not be more than bit part player going forward .

Thank god you're not the one handing out contracts.

As with all our previous good midfielders. We’ve always missed the other piece to complete the midfield. In Casemiros case we’ve lacked a runner thats able to hound the opponents or just a deep lying player maker that can carry ball. Casemiros a proper man in a team full of boys.
