He had a decent game but let’s not get too carried away like most did last season when he’d come into the game, look ‘better’ than our other midfielders for it then have a stinker the next one.

He still jumps in to tackles and goes to ground too easily, players can literally skip around him, you can’t rely on a DM when it’s that easy. Some games it’ll work others we’ll get torn apart because of it.

His forward passing is still very good but his awareness of what is around him when passing sideways is not great.

In a functional side he’d be great as a more advanced rotational option but he can’t be relied upon to play regularly as a DM in this formation.

To be fair, you do seem to have a massive boner for Athletic footballers and feel only extremely athletic fast players are worth their salt.

I disagree. With a hard working and athletic DM besides him he would be brilliant. His eye for a pass is incredible. Baleba and him together would have been top notch I reckon

I genuinely love this guy. When we signed him I was excited but had reservations because of his age and felt we should have pursued Caicedo. But his ball winning ability is something else, he just takes it off players like he's playing against children...it's ridiculous. I recall his game last season vs City where he was into double figures for number of times he won the ball - he's been capable of this in the right setup. Ten Hag did a number on him and his reputation by deploying his suicidal tactics. He's actually been pretty good other than that season, including his first season where paired with Eriksen in a double pivot.

The thing that sets him apart though is his passing - he is very good at progressing the ball. Left and right foot yesterday, pinging it out to the wings. Driving it through the lines to our attackers.

I don't think he's the answer in the long term due to his age and the fact that he's a bit less mobile these days, but he's got that 'legs aren't there but ability is still top notch' game that the likes of Scholes, Giggs etc showed. If managed he can still contribute here for sure. I hope he can get the respect and fanfare that he deserves here in the end.

Thought he was excellent, the one where he put a strong tackle in on the edge of our box and then sprayed it to Mbuemo who then won a corner from a shot was fantastic. As i said in the Bruno thread, we dominated the CM and Bruno/Casemiro were far better than their 3. The only problem was when he tired and was then replaced by Ugarte, quality on the ball dipped a bit but cant blame Casemiro for that!

We’ll see, Baleba best get his stakes on to cover all of midfield then !

We'll only need him once a week this season.

Without a doubt, but I would still like to bring in Baleba now to take over the Casemiro role while the Brazil legend sees out his days at Old Trafford in magnificent fashion even if he can only last 60-70 minutes. Then bring on Belaba, with Ugarte as deep cover, and take the next step to the stage where we belong.

One game a week combined with better options to pass to in attack and the back 3 closing the gap behind him changes him enormously IMO

Bruno was shit, and despite that Case loked excellent, maybe we can make this work if he keeps form. Not too many games to be played. Overall better team around . My only reservations is pressing, we can fully unleash the beast United if we have such a slow midfield. Will be always prone to a counter, if we dont press as a unit 100%. Instructions to WBs to cover and having 3CBs can help here, one stepping out more aggressively.

With no midweek football, if he keeps up performances like that, maybe, just maybe, we can have him hold that role for a season. Whether his legs will go before the season's end is another matter.

It's not ideal, but neither are the midfield options available, it seems.

Fulham 1:1 Man Utd
He's not fit for purpose, you just can’t have someone so immobile as a starter in the Premier League. It’s crazy how bad our midfield is.

How he is still at the club after the abysmal performances in the league last year is mind boggling, and he still starts matches for us...

He's over the hill, couldn't handle the physicality of Fulham's players even when we were on top, when they pushed forward after the missed penalty he was anonymous.

He tries to play a blind, first time ball over the top of the defenders at least 5 times a game with zero success but keeps persisting. One of a number of players in this team who I hate to see with the ball at their feet.

That sliding tackle in the second half. He was completely out on his feet after running back from it. Like something you’d see in Soccer Aid

We started off really good and then bruno and casemiro lost control in the MF - just giving passes away and getting caught in possession.

Looks like I am the contrarian here.

He played some nice switches but thought he didn't offer enough defensively and lost too many duels.

I said this after the Arsenal game and I thought today was similar but the switches didn’t come off this time.

He is past it.

Shocking how poor our midfield is. We need major upgrades. Both Casemiro and Bruno should ideally be sold, but Casemiro especially ASAP.

The feck was he on about today ? Logically if you’re at the stage of losing some mobility you should commit yourself less, no ? And the dives weren’t even in threatening positions. Genuinely bizarre stuff from such an experienced player.

He does it because it’s his out ball, and he doesn’t have the ability to make a sensible pass in tight spaces. Looks great when it comes off, but happens rarely, and is not worth the consequences of constantly losing the ball.

Yet some fans still think he’s a great choice in midfield cause he tires forward passes….which very rarely come off. Needs replacing and I’d play Ugarte or Mainoo there instead of him.

Got no legs and can’t control the game. Amorim initially identified that he’s not suitable for his system but has done a 180 as he’s clearly a top pro. But that doesn’t mean he should be starting

It was there for all to see last season, yet there he is still starting games.

I get that he's a nice guy, but he's just topping up his pension with us at this point.

I don't think anyone can look good in a midfield two in this league with Bruno as the partner. It is asking for problems.

We all knew before last season started that Casemiro wasn't the answer, but here we are.

All correct, it’s worrying though, both of our starting midfielders are incapable of playing intricate football to get us up the pitch and it’s both of their first instinct to try a long ball. I don’t see us dominating many teams playing like that.

We never have and we’ve had enough games to know it’ll never work.

Not sure anyone can look good alongside Casemiro either, he must be one of if not the least mobile CM in the league.

We’re not getting another midfielder this summer and the consequences will be huge, 200m for 3 attackers was overkill given the state of our midfield.

Fair, Casemiro is not suited to playing in a two in this league either. Showing how mad it is to play Casemiro and Bruno together in a midfield two.

Man Utd 3:2 Burnley
Messed up a simple pass to Yoro which gave them the throw in for their equaliser. Unacceptable

Was very good first half. The moment he starts to get tired we are fecked in midfield however

He was good for the first 60 minutes but he started to make some easy mistakes when he got tired.
Sums it up, but a very fine first 60. We play better with him in the team because he’s a very good footballer. Mainoo looked slower when he came on. Both won a foot race each, so that’s something

They had a really good chance because he went to their player on the ball that was already covered by a defender, instead of tracking the runner behind him
