The thing is, even this hasn’t really been a problem this season.

While our midfield is still not great, he hasn’t been exposed nearly as much as he was last season.

While his fitness has been undoubtedly better, it's clearly still a problem, given how much he struggles after about 50-60 minutes in any match that sees us pushing forward.

But he's still head and shoulders above our other midfield options and we'll miss him dearly.

I'm terrified of him leaving at the end of the season. Huge drop off when he gets subbed.

Should have kept him for an additional year.

He was chasing shadows a bit off the ball but with the ball he was brilliant.

His current level of performances is actually approaching that of the first half (or even the 2/3) of his debut season with us. Brilliant.

How do we replace him? We look utter shit when he is not playing

We can't. Or maybe we could but that would take an immense amount of money. Would have to look at someone like De Jong again. None of the guys we are linked with is good enough.

He's almost 29 and would still cost a bomb. Can't imagine that happening.

I've said it before but I really struggle to see anyone feasible who would be good enough.

I said it before and will say it again, we're losing our best midfielder this summer and I hope we have proper plans for his replacement.

Don't think we can find a like for like replacement as there's no player on the market who is as good as him. We need more than one player to fill the space his departure would leave.

Is he the only decent midfielder outside of the pl?

De Jong is absolutely not the answer.

Casemiro is in world class form at the moment. United need more than just "decent".

I'm not sure there are any world class defensive-minded midfielders outside the PL that don't already play for Real, Barca, PSG or Bayern, and/or aren't already in their late 20s/early 30s.

Will be sad to see him go and hopefully every time he's taken off it's to a applause like today. Was fantastic today.

That's the downside of playing Bruno so far up front

It’s also the downside to having a midfielder like Casemiro who can’t run, we have huge issues with speed and mobility and that’s an issue beyond where Bruno is playing.

He’s been excellent. But without getting into the WC argument, I really don’t think he’s at that level. People still get past him far too easily. To me world class means one of the top 3-4 players in the world in that position.

In no way as I downplaying him. I’m pleased he’s regained form.

I cannot fathom that there aren’t any up and coming quality midfielders. Someone with legs and stamina will make up for some of the other qualities Casemiro has.

Spot on. It is imperative that we sign a top class replacement. But such players are few and far between.
And they will be really expensive. So it is absolutely important that we qualify for the CL.

Has he decided to leave or if the club not activating his last year? we need to keep him and integrate another midfielder into the team whilst he is still here, imho it’s a mistake letting hom
go at the end of the season.

Goal, outrageous no-look assist and controlled the midfield. We lost control and conceded twice when he got subbed

And he's just bossed City and Arsenal's midfields, then popped up with a key goal and assist today vs an in-form Fulham. He can't do that much more. When he's playing like this there aren't really many, if any, better 6es out there.

It's going to be difficult to replace him. Enormous drop off after he was subbed

Fantastic today, MotM. But it's a good time for him to go. As great as he has been, he can't keep it up for the 90 and if freeing up his wages allow us to get a younger player with the potential to reach his levels for the full game, we have to do it. The club needs to have a concrete plan in place because we know what we are losing this summer.

Here we go with this nonsense when Casemiro has showed multiple times he can play a lot more than 60min

Surreal. Casemiro at the age of 31 is now playing at the same level as Keane at 31, and I think it’s safe to say that Keane was surrounded by much better players, and manager, then than Casemiro is now.

Casemiro is turning 34 in few weeks time .

There's a clear difference between games when we sit back and there's less intensity required of him Vs games like today where he has to play in midfield by himself and do a lot of sprinting to cover much larger spaces.

It shouldn't be rocket science that not all matches are the same and don't require the same output.

Ther you go. this sealed it I am buying his shirt. Very likeable player. His goals from midfield and leadership will be missed, especially on set pieces. Dont see a midfielder like that on our radar though. Doesnt have to be like for like replacement but you know we can score havign Maguire and him in the box.

Aside from anything else, we'll miss the goals he gives us from set pieces, they won't be easy to replace.

Yep. Especially in the context of the league being more set piece focused than before.

If we lose Maguire in the summer too, we could probably do with some of the players we sign being set piece threats.

On that we agree, I just find it funny how you always cap his fitness on the 60th min. Like 10 more minutes or something is always the death of him
