I think he's been really good this season overall, but it's still the right decision to part ways. We need more athleticism in our midfield to play better football and get to the next level, and you're not going to get that with him starting every week.
Spot on. He's very clever and great in the air but by God do we need a fast midfielder

I think him and Mainoo were both showed up by Jolienton and Tonali, lucky for us Bruno G was not even playing. They both looked very slow and unathletic against that midfield, not only physically they were dominating them, they were going past them with ease, plus out of possession they were like blood hounds and kept nicking the ball off them. We really need to have proper physically dominating midfielders who are quick and agile.

He should have been fazed out, not replaced.
Every time he comes off the pitch we concede a goal or two.

He doesn't have the legs, but he has the experience to ditate and be in the right position nearly all the time. Just imagion him playing with a pacy Mid for one season, he wouldn't have looked stretched at all.

I guess we tried to pair him with Baleba last season. But waited too late in the window to really make it happen, plus the fee was outrageous.

Casemiro is quality, but needs protection defensively at times. He has bailed us out so many times. Great player!

Man Utd 3:1 Aston Villa New
For all the talk of Real Madrid scamming us for Casemiro, he may have played a key role in getting Champions League football twice, which is worth a lot more than £60m, and played a role in winning two trophies. Also there are times in the past few years they look like they've missed him themselves. Brilliant player.

The way he started, he looked totally worth the money.. Form slipped, got a few reds.. He has adapted his style a little.. What a player..

And he genuinely looks like he is loving his time here.. which is always great to see..

Tons of players could've just phoned it in on their last year at this intensity. But not him. He's given it his all for the badge, no matter his physical condition. A true professional that every player should look up to.

Surely a one year deal on reduced wages and a limited role is the way forward?

Losing his influence in the dressing room will hurt a lot

I don't understand how a bloke who is six foot nowt and doesn't exactly leap like a salmon somehow gets on the end of every third set piece we stick into the box.

That is what i keep saying over and over. His transfer was success. Anyone who says different, especially media, can feck off.

No need for reduced wage. We had option to just extend his contract for one more year. One year wouldn't kill our budget that much.

But it is over now. We fecked up with going in public how he is leaving this summer.

Totally agree

Agree, and not even sure its on a limited role, he's as good as anyone else in CM in the league, deserves to be playing.

If you take out the Ten Hag doughnut midfield era, where he was expected to cover half the pitch on his own, he's been a very good player for us overall.

It is going to cost us a lot of money to replace what Casemiro provides us in both boxes.

I hope the club is ready for the required investment.

Such a pity we wasted years of his time at United on two coaches, Ten Had and Amorim, who were obssessed with midfield structures that played to all his weaknesses and highlighted none of his strengths.

With a more pragmatic coach during his time at United, Casemiro could have really delivered some big honours. He deserved a lot better than fighting to scrape into the Champions League.

Another top performance today.

He is leaving because he has already signed a contract with someone else. Likely a Saudi team that is offering more than his current wage - him staying an additional year on his current wage would mean he would be losing money to stay here; never mind asking him to stay on reduced wages.

We just got to take it like when a woman you love decides she wants to leave you for someone better.

We won't be able to replace him. We just have to change our system to try an balance out the goals he gives us and the defensive ability he gives us. There's not a like for like player that plays like Casemiro right now on the market.

Same with Maguire tbh.

Even with an shedload of money there aren't really many players out there who can replace it.

Utterly absurd today. Instead of grinding down to a halt, Case is growing in stature every game. We seriously need to have a conversation about next season. On the cusp of CL football, methinks he’d want one more taste of that.

He's still a brilliant player when his fitness is managed. Can't play 2 games a week, it's been the case his whole time here (and is standard for players in their 30s), except we wasted him with 2 complete idiot managers who had no clue how to balance a midfield. Will be a huge downgrade whoever we replace him with, but hopefully in time that player can grow and improve.

I wish we could keep him another season. Find a player that can bench him first.

Still probably the right time for him to move on, but if he took a pay cut, was happy to be a rotation option and signed a year long extension...my ovaries would explode.

We need to keep him. No idea how many points he's gotten us this year, but it's more than any other midfielder is going to get us.

Can't play every week, doesn't have to. One more year please!

Holds down the midfield by himself, is one of our biggest goal threats, can be creative, and contributes lots defensively too.

We won't be able to replace him with a single midfielder, we'll need to sign a whole new midfield to replace what he brings to the table.

Another quality performance, what a header, absolutely fantastic bit of movement and quality touch to finish.

Let’s also not forget that he almost single-handedly turn the tie around against Lyon to put us into the final last year, a final against an absolutely dog shit Spurs side.
If that last manager had any sense of pragmatism about him, it would’ve been 3 CL qualifications.

Been a cracking signing. Not his fault we’ve given him crap managers.

It's incredible. But the replay of today's goal showcased very much his main quality! He was already sprinting towards the ball when others were still guessing and watching. Guy has an immense read

We've paid a heck of a lot more than £60M for him. That was just the transfer fee. He's on £300k a week or so, that's more like £80M in wages. Total cost was like £130-140M.

UCL is probably worth at least £50M a year, but then again it gives a bunch of players wage boosts so you don't get all that money as extra cash.

I think it was a really silly move to make, but he has been very good this year. Buying Sesko vs Ollie Watkins last summer is a great example of why you don't buy late 20s / early 30s players. Sesko's been as good as Watkins already, is probably on lower wages than Watkins would've been for us, and we get an extra 7-8 years of him.

Now we just gotta stump out big cash for another midfielder this summer. Had we bought the right young player, they'd have been similar quality to Casemiro over the last 4 years, but we'd still have another 4-5 years left of prime play before needing to replace.

Smart teams just don't pay huge money for a 30 year old.
