We've paid a heck of a lot more than £60M for him. That was just the transfer fee. He's on £300k a week or so, that's more like £80M in wages. Total cost was like £130-140M.

UCL is probably worth at least £50M a year, but then again it gives a bunch of players wage boosts so you don't get all that money as extra cash.

I think it was a really silly move to make, but he has been very good this year. Buying Sesko vs Ollie Watkins last summer is a great example of why you don't buy late 20s / early 30s players. Sesko's been as good as Watkins already, is probably on lower wages than Watkins would've been for us, and we get an extra 7-8 years of him.

Now we just gotta stump out big cash for another midfielder this summer. Had we bought the right young player, they'd have been similar quality to Casemiro over the last 4 years, but we'd still have another 4-5 years left of prime play before needing to replace.

Smart teams just don't pay huge money for a 30 year old.
He's been really good this season though as you said in his fourth full season at the club and doesn't look a player who has declined that much at 34, yet buying him at 30 was wrong? We bought several players at 22 and didn't even get one good season out of them. 4 seasons and 160 games is a good chunk. Just to compare, he's played more games than Paul Ince, Dwight Yorke, Lee Sharpe, Teddy Sheringham, the club has got plenty out of him.

It's not Fifa career mode where they all decline immediately at 30, it depends on the player and a case by case business. Bayern Munich bought Harry Kane at 30, but if only they had bought the "right player".

He absolutely has to stay
On reduced wages, yes, because it is not sustainable or smart to have him as our starting DM next season.

we still need a top class DM next season, and for that to be the case, Cas has to either go or get his wages cut down to 100k weekly (he is on 350K weekly).

He absolutely has to stay
100%. He cant run, his passing is inconsistent, he cant track runners, he gives away free kicks at the edge of our box every game. Hes on 350k a week. He cant play 90 mins let alone 2 games a week. But hes good at corners. Sign him up.

But look at his chubby little face, sign him up.

We should sell Ugarte and give this man the money to stay with us one more year

Can uncle really not be persuaded to give us one more year? His experience and aerial threat off the bench would do wonders in Europe

One more year, one more year Casemiro. One more year, one more year I say. Playing football the Busby way!

Himself and Bruno are our best players with Maguire not far behind, there's a lot to be said for having players in their peak years but you need young killers all around them. I'm not sure any of our young players are coming to the boil in any major way, the kind of trophy winning way. I have a lot of time for our players but the balance is still off

Sign and stick Anderson in midfield with Casemiro & Bruno and it’d be sensational.

How is Bruno G in the air? Would absolutely love a Brasilian for Brasilian at their peak in our midfield.

We need to delete that going away post/video and mass neuralyze everyone who saw it
That flashing pen thing from Men in Black should do the trick.

Honestly though, I wish the club would sit down with him and work another year out. His experience and determination on the pitch, which I have no doubt flows to and from the training pitch and dressing room, will be sorely missed.

Sure, he can’t give us two full games a week but he will be a vital for depth assuming we get champions league next year, which is becoming a real possibility.

if he can give us 60 of his best minutes, or perhaps even 90 (60min starter + 30min subbed on) each week we should be looking to take that extra 12 months with him.

Sesko and Mainoo come to mind. Yoro was outstanding yesterday. All 20-21 which is considered young.

For a keeper Lammens, 23, is very young.

Joelinton is probably the best possible if you want a Brasilian who can play in the middle and is good in the air. Both him and Bruno G are nearing 30 though, can't see Ineos going for either.

Yeah the age will put them off Guimaraes no matter how much Casemiro recommends him. Reports today sound like there is no plan for the club to do a u-turn and convince him to stay which is a bit disappointing.

Amazing header, putting it in opposite bottom corner from that position is nuts.

Just by looking at his run, you could tell that was a training routine where he knew where the ball would be. But that kind of header was probably the only type that could beat Martinez at that angle. It's just nuts.

Finding a straight swap for Casemiro is totally doable. But what I'm frustrated of is the fact that there's no defensive midfielder in the market with this end product upfront. I know it's unpopular but the mere fact he has 10 goals in him should be enough to keep him.

Goals contributions aside, it's vital to have him around for a swift transition in the 6 role. We all know the level of pressure and expectations when you sign in this club. We cannot afford to rely entirely on "high potentials". Whatever the system and the manager will be, there's a high chance the next 6(s) will be paired with Mainoo. Not sure it would be wise to go next season with a 21-22 yo average in our midfield.

Not sure how we're going to replace his set piece output next season. Our CBs don't really score enough as it is, Casemiro makes up for the lack of goals from our CBs.

We need him at least for one year. At least till new guys settle in. I hope people responisle for transfers are at least trying to keep him.

Bruno G is 28 until November. he's captain material and we could get 5 great years out of him. There are few midfielders which would be ready to hit the ground running for us which are not Anderson who himself would be around 80m. Also a lightweight player compared to the Newcastle boys with not much direct goal threat.

In ideal world Id like both to be frank.

As for Joelington he for sure is tough as nails and maybe a bit better in the air but sort of one dimensional. If we wanted a threat in the air we as well just get T. Soucek but then he's not good enough technically.

There was more than a whiff of Keano's header v Juve on that header by Casemiro yesterday.

Yeah will definitely miss that output next season

I am presuming our owners have a plan in place and have superb replacements lined up so his departure does not cause a great deal of disruption...

It's not like these are the people who hired Amorim. Wait a minute...

Agent Casemiro on international break, mind you think there was a suggestion Utd think him or Tonali are deals too difficult to pull off unfortunately.

Bournemouth 2:2 Man Utd New
Praised him on Sunday, but he badly struggled today. He struggles against these B named teams.

They targeted him as a weak link, was moving in slow motion with and without the ball. Probably only stayed on in case he got a goal from a set piece but should have been taken off much earlier.

Not his best game. He will benefit from the extended break. Come back ready for the final push.

Bournemouth really did a number on him tonight. Constantly harassing him to good effect.

That was his worst game in a while. Reminded me of some of his performances during Ten Hag's second season. Hopefully he'll be back to his best vs Leeds. He usually plays better at Old Trafford.

Bournemouth correctly identified him as the target to pile the pressure on as he's the one who dictates our tempo.
