Casemiro (out)

Yes he did. And we finished 15th.

That's a reason for us to replace him, not a reason for him to decide he needs to leave for Saudi Arabia.

As long as he's getting paid a small fortune and still playing PL games relatively regularly, he has all the reason to want to stay.

Ah yes, gotcha. I had skimmed your post quickly and missed that point.

I like Casemiro, but it's surprising he doesn't get more stick for not moving on if the Saudi offers are there.

He must know himself the PL is beyond him nowadays, but seems quite happy to sit it out with us.
I'm not convinced he's actually had any serious Saudi offers, they're just lazy media links.

Saudi seemed to move away from signing old past it players for huge money at just the wrong time for us. Over the last couple of years they've really focused on players who are actually still in their prime.

After being dropped for the FA cup final for Amrabat I'm sure he wanted to leave but couldn't find a club. Now we're stuck with him.

Can’t see anything happening we’d be so light in the middle of the park with him gone.

Yeah can't see us losing anyone from the midfield now unless they're putting down silly money

Fairly sure United would gladly offload Casemiro
If they're paying a fee, and we'd get someone to replace him then sure. If it's just a matter of losing him and not signing anyone, I don't know. It's not like we have to take this chance to get his wages off the books as he's leaving next summer anyway, and we could do with the bodies for this season at least.

We would replace him if he left.

United would be delighted to get money for Casemiro in the right scenario, but selling him now—with no immediate replacement lined up and nearly a week left in the window—would be insanity, as it would leave us with Bruno, Mainoo, and Urgate as our sole midfield options for the full season.

He frequently plays quite well for us, and shows his qualities though. He contributes quite well going forwards, and sometimes in defence. He just isn't able to be in the right place often enough. I agree the wage-to-performance ratio isn't great.

In a more conservative team, I think he'd still have something to offer. He just isn't it for how we want to play going forwards

I genuinely think Casemiro is loving playing for the club and living in England and would have zero intention of leaving before his contract is up

If a Saudi club paid like £30m+ that’s the only way I see him leaving because then we could just slap £100m on Baleba. We’d then be paying about £70m and have significantly less wages

I don’t even know would Brighton sell this late

With only one year left on his deal I am not sure how attractive this would be at this stage, yes his wages and a fee would be nice but realistically he is 1st choice this season and with only 1 game a week most weeks he should be capable of playing the 1st 60 minutes in most matches, this is only on IMO if we have a replacement lined up even if not Baleba

I actually really like Cas, despite being vastly overpaid, but he’s costing £30m per season in amortisation and wages. Would free up a lot of funds to move him, but I’d be surprised if the club sanctioned it without a replacement lined up. Ugarte has been pretty poor.

Benzema's recommendation brings Casemiro closer to Al-Ittihad

Al-Ittihad are interested in signing Brazilian midfielder Carlos Enrique, known as Casemiro, currently at Manchester United, according to a source cited by Al-Riyadhiya.

The source confirmed that Casemiro, 33, has emerged as a key target as the club looks to strengthen its midfield with an experienced and well-rounded player capable of contributing both defensively and offensively.

Casemiro previously enjoyed a close relationship with Karim Benzema during their time together at Real Madrid between 2013 and 2022. The pair featured in 265 matches together, combining for seven goals, according to the website Transfermarkt.

I'd rethink that one. As one of the highest paid players in the world, we'd save £15-20M in wages alone from offloading Casemiro, even without any transfer fee. If someone gave us even a £15M fee too, that's more than enough to buy a better, younger midfielder in his place.

I don't expect anyone is actually interested, but if they were we should be leaping at the opportunity. Casemiro is obscenely, grossly overpaid for the player he is at this point.

If Casemiro were to go, we would need two midfield signings.
I would like two but I think we'd be just fine with just the one. Bruno, Mainoo, Ugarte, New Signing, Mount, Kone would be fine for this year before a big push for one or both of Baleba/Wharton

Getting rid saves us wages and might give us a fee. In a season which is considered by most as his definite last one. A season without Europe which is about getting better than last year. Take the money, loan somebody or bring Collyer back. Don't think the club can waive such money just out of principle.

If Casemiro ends up the deciding factor of this season, a lot of things must have went really badly. If there is a chance to get money for him, go and get it. Could bring in a loanee, he shouldn't be 3rd choice even at this point in time.

That’s a bad set of midfielders and absolutely relies upon a new guy coming in and being at least as good as Casemiro, which is not a guarantee unless we buy serious quality.

Casemiro is our glue and a giant component in how well we do until at least the January window. It’s a very precarious position to be in.

Ugarte is better.

I get the feeling there's a midfielder coming in for us either way. The only issue is that I'm not sure Casemiro himself wants to leave yet. However if he's being offered a big wage for the next 2/3 years, then who knows.

You can't fix everything in one window and the savings without or without a fee would be significant.

If they make an offer and he wants to go then I'd snap their hand off.
My issue isn’t Casemiro; it’s what’s here and what would need to replace him, and to the latter, if not done right, our season will be in jeopardy.

An offer has never been the problem at Saudi no? It's getting Casemiro to agree to the move

Saudi wanted to buy a 30 years old Bruno for 100m. Any chance we can ask for 50m for a 33 years old Case? Fingers crossed

This rumour appears every window. If it’s true (this time) then I think we’d have definitely taken the opportunity to get him off the wage bill a couple of months back. The short time to get an adequate replacement in would complicate it more at this point.

I’d be surprised if he moves before the end of his contract now - he seems pretty happy here.
