Casemiro (out)

I'd rethink that one. As one of the highest paid players in the world, we'd save £15-20M in wages alone from offloading Casemiro, even without any transfer fee. If someone gave us even a £15M fee too, that's more than enough to buy a better, younger midfielder in his place.

I don't expect anyone is actually interested, but if they were we should be leaping at the opportunity. Casemiro is obscenely, grossly overpaid for the player he is at this point.
Well this is it, i'd consider even 15m silly money at this point. Anyone daft enough to take him off our hands would probably be doing so on a free transfer.

We still have Mainoo/Ugarte/Bruno to cover 2 positions in the midfield and I am sure we will get some one else for sure if Casmiro leaves.

That Saudi source is excellent by the way...

superb

edit: just saw that club tweet. bummer. he'd have to perform like absolute peak Kante to justify his wages. I think he performs maybe well enough to earn a third.

He has won everything he is ever going to (which is a lot), is getting paid a shed load of money and will get to sign on free somewhere next season and cash in again, content I should say he is on cloud 9

Would have been quite a move to sell him to Saudi for some cash and save 18m of salary.

Assuming 20m transfer fee, that’s 40m cash saved plus his depreciation removed for PSR purposes.

We can then really push for Stiller or Wharton or Baleba,

I'd be content too at that wage level. The man will be here till the last second of his contract and I don't blame him.

As Winston Bogarde pointed out, as soon as he signed that contract, the money was his.

Utd were incredibly dumb to offer him those terms.

I'd understand and agree with the wage comments more if it wasn't a transfer to Saudi. Realistically, at the very least, they'll make sure they match his Man Utd salary.

I genuinely think it's more him wanting to get in the Brazil WC squad, and he still relishes competing at the top level. Look at the way he's returned to pre-season lean and fit. It suggests a lot about his commitment and hunger still to try and compete.
Also, a key point is his family. They may not want to move to Saudi.

Not even mad, we haven't been great you can tell he's genuinely loved every minute of playing for United.

It was the same with Varane

Varane didn't fall off a cliff though. He was top class throughout, just injury prone.

If Casemiro were to go, we would need two midfield signings.
Wharton. And then Baleba next season. All of a sudden that's a real possibility, especially on account of the wages as others have stated. Maybe add Camavinga to that mix.

I genuinely think Casemiro is loving playing for the club and living in England and would have zero intention of leaving before his contract is up

I seem to be in the minority but I’d be sorry to see him leave. As others have said his current wages are an issue, but there’s a salary point at which I’d give him a new short term contract.

He’s a top pro and still a good player if not what he was. Sure, he doesn’t justify the silly contract we gave him, but he’s earned his money far more than the likes of Sancho ever has.

God no. He’s nowhere near good enough. Was a great player, now a complete liability. Of course he’s still capable of the odd moment - but he needs to be effective for 90 mins, and not the odd flashy pass.

If we could get any sort of money for him I would be delighted.

His family are happy enough in England, aren't they? Moving to Saudi is a big decision to make.

Would send Ugarte packing before i get to Casemiro.

Given how light we are midfield already, the conditions that would have to be met to make a sale work is silly money -- at least 50m -- and a deal nearly in hand for a proper replacement. I'm not even sure Casemiro would want to leave for Saudi at this point, but that's a different issue.

This rumour appears every window. If it’s true (this time) then I think we’d have definitely taken the opportunity to get him off the wage bill a couple of months back. The short time to get an adequate replacement in would complicate it more at this point.

I’d be surprised if he moves before the end of his contract now - he seems pretty happy here.
Yeah, he is way too comfortable and it seems (unfortunately) that Amorim thinks he he is to play a very relevant role for us this season.

Commitment and Hunger are great and character and professionalism wise he is a fantastic player and guy, no doubt. But at the same time, he earns the money only the best players of the league should get but what we get from him is barely average. Not because the skill isn't there anymore, he is still strong, he still can tackle, he still has an eye. But his mobility is reduced a lot and with the way we are playing, this is only emphasizing issues we have as a team. In a well functioning unit, you'd be able to find ways to make a midfield around Casemiro still work. But us? These days? While at the same time having to try to make a midfield around Bruno work? We have athleticism issues for almost a decade at this point.

It is completely crazy to see even people thinking about giving new contracts out to player who actively contribute to our issues.

On top, he gets a good chance to play very often this season
Which, while maybe understandable for Ruben, isn't a good thing for United. Because we simply can't plan with him for more than this year and giving him a prominent role will increase the need to invest in midfielders that is there and striking even right now, with him in there. It just isn't a good idea. And him heading clutch goal or two or giving 8 passes that lead to dangerous situations won't balance him not being as mobile as a PL midfielder should be.

Okay, so them posting this is basically confirmation something is happening.

Or did the times finally move beyond club/chairperson saying someone is staying is indication they're probably gone soon?

Plus this way it's always easier to justify the inherent "a unique opportunity he and the club could simply not pass up on" when it comes August 30, 20:37 UTC

Absolutely. If we can move him on, do it - and plug the gap the best we can manage.

I expect he'll be useful this season with the lighter schedule, but he's still a massive misallocation of resources. We can improve on him quite easily for far lower wages I'm sure.

At one point I was desperate for a Saudi club to come and take him but I do share this sentiment now. Not that I'd be desperate for us to keep him but he still offers certain things even though he'll turn 34 this season. Not sure I'd expect him contract though, only if he'd be ready to accept 1 year contract on 100k wages or something, because his current wages - only Bruno deserves that much atm for me.

Not sure why some people are so eager for him to leave, we will be screwed even more if he leaves and we don't sign any long term midfielder (who would be a success here unlike Ugarte). Casemiro is not really stopping us from signing more midfielders.
