Anyone who reads stuff like this and doesn't see the (not so) underlying message about our owners is beyond reason.

Will we ever have a manager like her again? I am heartbroken :(

So either she has or hasn’t got the backing/resources. If you’re going to quit in protest, you might as well make it clear why you’re quitting.

Her comments don't make sense. She sounds more gutted about the failure to qualify for Europe than any non investment. Maybe she has a better offer elsewhere.

Thought this was coming sooner or later. She's done a good job but maybe it's time for a fresh start for all parties.

Those comments are from last week, I doubt she would have gone public with any issues before the end of the season and she's also not going to in an official club statement because the club wouldn't put that out. If the Telegraph got word of this before it was made official and they had the issues with the training ground as one of the factors it would suggest that that's come from someone's camp.

So she quits because the team got hit by injuries and didn't had depth to make it, so it's her fault, despite obvious reason this team is only few years old and is still under heavy construction ?

If Man United manager quits by own will, something probably hit the fan. Heavily.

Just checking the uwcl...realised Chelsea are both in the men's and women's CL finals. Pretty great season in Europe for them.

No worries
I'm gutted :( I genuinely thought she could've taken us a long way, maybe even winning the title one day. I'm worried about what's gonna happen this summer, especially if we can't get a big name in to replace her. I have a feeling that more than a few players are also gonna be on their way out too. If the stories about the training conditions are true (and it would explain why we had such a huge injury list this season), then that's even more concerning. Although it seems just as likely she got an offer too good to turn down, in which case fair enough.

What she's done for this club is incredible, and she'll be remembered fondly. Best of luck to her.

Absolutely shameful by the 'biggest football club in the world'. Look at the stadium City's women team play in compared to United's. It says everything.

It's a massive shame that she has resigned. Tobin Heath was saying that one of the reasons she signed for United was because of Stoney. We'll struggle to find a better manager to come in.
The Glazers have always treated the Women's team as an afterthought, literally. How a club like United were not vilified for failing to have a Women's team before they did is one of the biggest indictments against football media being blinded by the lights and not covering real issues as a result.

Really sad news - difficult to know what the true reasons are for now, but expect all sorts of rumours to leak out of the wood work.

Annoying thing is any, none, or all of them might be true

Stoney, who was appointed as manager when the club reformed in 2018, has been unhappy with the support structure and facilities since the club made the temporary switch to the men’s base at Carrington at the start of the year.

Players were unable to shower in between training and meals before makeshift portacabins were installed while the nearest toilets are a 10-minute walk from their training pitch. Upgrades promised by the club and football director John Murtough have not been forthcoming.

Players are understood to feel let down by the way United have handled their presence at Carrington and hear contrasting stories from the women’s team at Manchester City, where Pep Guardiola is known to watch training and encourage togetherness. There is also a frustration at the club’s unwillingness to accommodate them at Carrington on a full-time basis.
Embarrassing stuff.

If they train at the cliff, that’ll be why. Not even fit for Salford

Why wouldn’t they be able to train at Carrington?

Terrible news. Casey Stoney has done a fantastic job of rebuilding the Man Utd women from the ashes. She should be in the Clubs history books together with names like Alex Ferguson, Matt Busby and Ernest Mangnall. It makes no sense for her to quit now, after taking United from secomd level to the brink of Champions League. One small step from barging into the top three.

If thisis about Glazers and Woodward reneging on their promises (worthy training facilities, better ground solution - ‘we waited so long because we wanted to do it right’) I’m beyond belief when it comes to how little they understand when lying.

From the BBC

Analysis - Stoney 'shown huge potential as a coach'
Emma Sanders, BBC Sport reporter

There have been growing concerns over resources and facilities for Manchester United Women in recent months, with Stoney showing glimpses of frustration over pitch conditions in training.

The team have suffered numerous injuries throughout the season which ultimately impacted their ability to qualify for the Champions League and they have moved between Leigh Sports Village, the Cliff and Carrington for training during the pandemic.

Question marks over player contract extensions and the futures of United States duo Tobin Heath and Christen Press also cast doubts on the club's commitment to invest.

Stoney herself has been linked with the vacant Arsenal job in the WSL but there has been talk of her taking up a job in the United States, which she is expected to start in the summer.

I hope she goes on the record eventually if it’s as bad as the stories that are coming out.

Because the facilities aren't there either. They can't share the men's facilities because of the way it's set up. There's no space.

The Cliff is delapidated, but they've had three years to fix it up. Lack of investment strikes again.

All the players from the women's team who've been on the official podcast has spoken very highly about her. To the point where it sounds like she'll be very hard to replace.

If it is due to the state of the facilities it's obviously shameful and you would expect better from even amateur clubs over here.

All news outlets seem to be pointing to the dire state of facilities. Even Sky Sports understands along the same lines - what a disgrace

Why do things like this always come out after an event like this. It’s always slightly suspicious that the Mail just happened to have this info but didn’t think to share it until now? Could it be untrue, or embellished? Genuine question.

When the club announced the Womens team they said they'd train at the Cliff and it would be refurbished. Thats never happened.

They've always trained at LSV on the public pitches. But during the winter they trained a bit indoor at the Cliff. They also said they were looking to expand Carrington and had plans to do so and include the Womens team in that (and the youth teams).

Its been 3 years and nothings been done. Originally I was like "Well the Cliffs to old and small so maybe thats why they're at LSV", but now it's clear it's because they promised this that the other and did none of it.

You look at the players she managed to get (Heath, Press, Groenen) and there is no way they'd recommend the setup to any of their NT teammates. I'm gutted about this, and the fact that players only found out an hour before, that she did those quotes at the weekend mean it's not been a planned decision, she's wanted to stay but in the end they've just renegged on to many things and she's like, San Diego is a nice place to live, good weather and a team who'll actually be supported.

Think what could have been done by that team this season if she'd not been screwed over by injuries that are because of where they were training! They could have challenged for the title with Heath available, they would have got top 4 with Russo and Ladd fit.

Shambles.

Stadium falling apart and shite conditions for the women. Grim situation for a supposedly "elite" club.
The club's a complete shambles. It's why I don't get excited when we announce world record sponsorship deals; very little money is invested in bricks and mortar. The Glazers don't give a shit and haven't done since 2005.

Considering the absolute state of Old Trafford, this is both a) wholly believable and b) unsurprising

If the Glazers want to make a statement, how about no dividends for a few years and putting that money (and more) into infrastructure?
