Centre Midfielder Transfer Links

The silence right now could be that we're waiting for the end of the world cup to move for Kone. But the theme of the window so far is we have a name come out of nowhere with no prior links.

You would hope we're not waiting for sales before we bring in another midfielder. Waiting for Rashford/Zirkzee sales before going for a left sided player and a striker I can forgive, but the midfield needs sorting.

Looking at the players we are buying and being linked with, we really took that Matic and Pogba midfield partnership for granted didn't we?

I think we're currently trying to decide between Kone and Sander Berge. It will be one of them IMO.

I don't see Fulham giving us a reasonable price, these PL sides are a nightmare to deal with if they want to keep a player and there's no release clause.

Chema.... as discussed already before here, we really need to start focusing on Spanish midfielder, trying to snap up some younger talents

Ok, I must have missed this I’ll have a look back through the pages.

I was really impressed with Spains midfield throughout the tournament they just do the basic so well. We need to start focusing on technical players if we want to dominate games going forward.

They are not the most physical but in terms of technique, movement, positioning and passing they are the best. And in my opinion we need such a player, a young Ruiz would be incredible

Haven't seen a single min of the lad playing but based on this spanish domination we need a piece of that. Get Chema Andres Mr. Vivell.

And they have a buyback.
That they need to activate if they want him back, and if he even wants to go back. He is not replacing any of Real's midfielders any time soon. Going there is going to affect his development, so he'll have that on his mind.

They could easily do the same idea as we did with Carreras, buy them back and ship them on for a higher full fee instead of a percentage

The player would have to agree to that. If they plan on doing that solely to get as much money as possible, how does that benefit him?

And even if he did accept a new contract with Real Madrid only to be sold a day later, we should still be there ready to sign him for a higher fee, because he is really talented.

if they sold him last summer, why would u go back one year later when the same players are in place PLUS they clearly want to purchase Rodri

I agree completely with the last part, I was just chatting in work about this and the consensus seems to City, Chelsea & Madrid all seem to do this, buy all the young talent, see what sticks and get a good FFP bump for moving them on.

I agree though it doesn't benefit the player at all, and they owe their respective club now if they are just a FFP bump to them

I think you missed the full thing of, Real would be buying him back to sell him on for profit instead of just willing accepting a sell on percentage, it doesn't benefit the player at all unless there's some bonuses thrown in there, but it depends on your affinity to said club whether you agree to be a pawn in a financial gain for Real

big lad at 6'4 for a CM
He is but he’s also quite athletic too, from what I’ve watched of him which isn’t lots he’s very good positionally and great on the ball so reminds me a lot of Carrick or Busquets but isn’t massive covering ground like a Baleba type so it depends if we want for a Carrick/Busquets type instead of a Baleba type for how we’re planning on playing.

I feel like we still need a world class CB. We ain’t winning anything with the current defenders we have. Injury prone, pushing on a bit, and raw youngsters.

Not many top cbs in modern football tbh

We should be looking at Nico Gonzalez from City for the DM role. With Anderson in and Rodri back at his best, he's going to play even less than last season so may want out. Might be a bit difficult but we should give it a try, in my opinion.

unless he and his agent would be getting a cut of the improved financial deal, not sure why you'd dothat to help Real make more money off of you

i'd be quite happy with another Carrick/Busquets type of player

spain don't seem to have an issue without a bunch of athletic CM's winning matches simply bc they keep the ball so well and are great at repressing

Chema would be amazing, would love that. Also obligatory feck Stuttgart
He feels like such an obvious signing for many clubs, the fact he's not been picked up I feel there's a plan in place to get him back to Madrid when he's ready and he's just biding his time until that inevitably happens.

He probably could replace Camavinga with little issue.

If they brought in Rodri then they may be happier with him as a longer-term and more cost effective understudy to him than Tchouameni.

Exactly.

Either that, or he's another one of Ineos' super secret, zero links, surprise deals.

If he did replace Camavinga that would be because of his injuries.

And sure, in a time where Mourinho isnt the manager of Real any more. Ignoring that, being the understudy of Rodri at a time where his development is crucial and is playing every game is only going to stall his development. Real aren't particularly known to develop young players, unless they're some generational talents, and even then, they don't make it easy for them.

It has all gone a bit quiet at the moment and it seems like we will not splash big on a midfielder or get in a bidding war with a rival club.
I predict we are doing some work behind the scenes on Sangare and possibly putting a bid in soon.

Maybe because that one has gone very quiet

It is a bit discouraging that City secured the top CM available, now have been linked with the 18yr old Bouddidi, Spurs have splashed 185m on Tonali and Fernandes, whereas we’ve failed in our Fernandes pursuit, brought in a relatively inexperienced 22yr old (I remain optimistic on him though), a 29 year old good CM but definitely leaning towards his decline, and have failed to bring in a marquee signing so far.

Watching PSG win the CL with three CMs that can do it all, and rival clubs seeing that and beating us to the signings kinda sucks.

I get it… too much money, wage structure… all of it. But INEOS has played it relatively safe the last two transfer windows, and it just feels like they are more or less trying to be in the mix for the CL spots and not really trying to win the league.

We are trying to play smart so when we have consolidated (forget that 2028 title target) for a couple of seasons then we will be in position to spend big. I have probably failed to convince you whatsoever but least I gave it a try

Who better to coach the new Carrick, than actual Carrick?
