But the problem is that you can't play a midfielder like Verratti next to Pogba and Bruno either. We love to hate on Fred but a defensive midfielder who can successfully play next to Pogba & Bruno might not even exist.
That's silly. Unless you really expect us to have world class players in every position on the pitch? We need a better CM than Fred sure but let's be realistic too.

You definitely can, for the vast majority — because you play to dominate possession and matches. In bigger games you tweak, but a Pogba Verratti pivot would have enough to control midfields against most sides around.
Moot point though, would never happen (at least for us).
