The other thing to consider is that the vast majority of youth prospects don't go on to be world class. I think some people expect every talent to go on to be incredible, i can think of at least 10 players who were the 'next X'.

It's annoying we're losing a few youngsters for low fees but you never know what's going to happen to these players after they move. We're essentially losing one of our many raffle tickets, it may be the winning one, but likely not.
Certainly been a few who have been overrated based on a decent loan in a poorer league, bar the exception. But its fact of modern football, you cant keep them all they will inevitably want to go, and so be it.

People need to realise there will never be more than a handful of kids in the first team picture regularly at Chelsea.

Wasn't Dujon Sterling once rated higher than James? Guess until they both had their loan moves and James massively impressing at Wigan. Hopefully those staying really get the chance to play.

Better news.

Honestly if he furfills his potential from a youngster he will be a fantastic wingback. Probably a bit too defensively suspect for a flat back four though (unless we're chasing a game and/or playing a shit house team).

Held back by annoying injuries sadly. Seems like he's just stood still for 2 years while his peers and younger age groups have passed him by, but yeah he's another really good prospect.

A good thing is he played with James at youth level with him a wingback and the latter a RCB, so a rapport is already there if/when they play those roles at first team level.

And Zappacosta. Probably others I've forgotten too. We really have built up a big pile of players we're not really using.

Yes that's only difference between real selling club who sold their priced assets but we offload players we don't have intention to use for first team.

This is awesome to watch. Tuchel has the losing team in the drill to perform Backstreet Boys songs for the winning team at dinner.

It’s sell them, loan them until they leave for free or extend their contracts and get stuck with them like United tend to do. We are doing the right thing for us and the player.

RLC and Barkley must be difficult to shift, no? They're both on a reported £110k-£120k a week.

The friendly agasint Drogheda last night was called off due to a Covid scare in the training camp.

They've not said if anyone tested positive.
Chelsea have confirmed there was a positive case

I must say im totally relaxed about this window and dont get the panic among our fans re. signings. Its 23rd July. Players in the euros arent all back, and we have history of doing incoming business after our tours/camps are over.

Plenty of time left, lads

Indeed.

To be honest, if we don't sign a single player I wouldn't be that bothered.

We have a massive squad who just won the Champions League. Unless the player coming in is a clear upgrade then there's not much point.

Havertz, Werner and Ziyech all underperformed last season while they were settling in, so even if we don't sign anyone we have a huge room for improvement. I think it's inevitable that there will be some fairly large cash splashing going on though during this window.

Chelsea still lagging in midfield in my opinion. We have kante jorginho and kovasic in midfield. Billy loaned out if any injury or suspension we will be really very thin in that department. Rlc and Barkley not good enough to play there as no 6.

Striker department may be managed since kai looked good during end of last season but adding one more striker will be optimal otherwise Werner output surely need to improve a lot.

Mount pulisic and ziyech will take care of creativity but improvement needed from them too.We are struggling to create if we go down and play against wall of defense.

Super Cup will be a good test with villarreal style of play. Will see. Very excited for upcoming season.

Mount is not a winger. He brings a lot to the team, but never as a winger. He is a part of the midfield.

absolutely certain we will sign 2 or 3, but its far far too soon to be concerned. Over a month left.

Look like we are looking for cm Declan rice or tchouameni will come in or tuchel decide to go with bakayoko as option. Striker department have no clue. One defender may be.

Rumours suggested we bid for chiesa and rejected by juve but don't know why we were in for that kind of money.

Simply awesome manager. He already bettered some of the best managers in top end like pep,Klopp,Zidane, simeone with the strike force consists of Werner, Giroud and Abraham.

What's impressive was those teams managed by some of best struggled to create chances against his side. Hope chelsea board will back him.

Maybe Griezmann could end up as on option for our striker... Got to get someone at the top level imo, though Window is until 31/08 so we have time. Barcelona have to get him off the wage bill due to La Liga pay cap, Only Atletico seems remotely viable as things stand for them to do that, though Saul swap could be quite shady and a difficult deal.

The huge stumbling block though is his wages, probably need to pay him any transfer fee directly and Barcelona to get zero pretty much, to pay off the difference between what we can pay (€15m a year ish max roughly) and what he's on there, contract at Barcelona is totally insane around €40-50m a year.

I’m genuinely intrigued to see which striker Chelsea bring in. Because if it isn’t a Haaland or a Kane, then I don’t fancy them for major honours with going with Werner again or Havertz as a false striker.

Winning the champions league could give them a false sense of security in thinking they have adequate resources. They seriously need a striker.

I think we're all intrigued to see who comes in, but it seems pretty clear the club aren't just going to rest of their laurels. Everyone seems to understand that there's a sizeable gap to be made up to catch City in the league.

I don't really see any reason to panic in this window.

I prefer the club to approach the market only gunning for the cream of the crop of European football. We have a more than good enough current squad and a steady supply of very talented academy players to not waste any resources on 3rd or 4th choice targets if the main targets aren't gettable this summer.

Kane is a nonstarter so forget him, but if we can't get Haaland or Lukaku, then my preference would to be to sign no strikers this summer and go with what we have. The same applies to other positions.

I don't agree with the idea that Chelsea can't improve without any new signings. We've already invested a lot into many young talented players and the expectation is to see continuous improvements from them, the likes of Havertz, Pulisic, Mount, James, CHO, Werner, Chilwell etc.

I agree. I think we need a new striker but if we can't get the right one for the right price i'd be happy with our current squad. Trim down and continue clearing out all the mistakes of previous windows and build up the pot for when the right players do come along

That's big problem whenever we won we failed to build upon that. We really failed to build better team around hazard. If Jose or conte got players to improve first team we would have challenged city following seasons and gave a real shot at CL with hazard. We failed hazard and his talent by refused to build a better team around him and not justified his talents. Now we should not stagnate and do same thing for havertz too.

Of course we already have very good young hungry team and players who can improve lot such as havertz, ziyech,Werner and cho. We should not let ourselves down in my opinion.

Need to back tuchel in every way board can.If we want to challenge city then striker is must who can score and contribute 25-30 goals.I will be happy if Werner or havertz provided that. But can't build a competitive team without competition for places.

Yeah I don't think we should panic buy or settle for someone just because he is available. I think we're in a nice situation we can afford to be really picky about who we buy.

I'm not saying don't build on last season's success. Improving the team from a position of strength is definitely better than being reactionary after a poor season, but what if we can't get Haaand or Lukaku in this window? Would you advocate for the signing of someone like Ings or Aubameyang for example just for the sake of bringing in *a* striker?
