Chelsea 2025-26 - Worldwide losingest team of the 2025-26 season

Another number 10?

Are they moving Palmer back to the right?

Joao Pedro also played lots of football for Brighton just off Welbeck.

Or Simons is some sort of Joao Felix PSR move....I dunno.

You feel Chelsea are on the right track now after a turbulent three years but they certainly have signing OCD when it comes to constantly getting players in positions where they're already stacked.

Would probably challenge for the league if they showed this type of urgency with the keeper and CB.

This is your answer, Eghbali is a transfer addict.

Clearlake, particularly Eghbali, has taken a role considered by Boehly to be micromanaging — a source close to Boehly’s side described Eghbali as being “obsessed with player trading”.

No idea. He definitely has the intensity and talent. No idea who his comoetition at Chelsea is though.
In addition to his technical quality on the ball, his work rate and willingness to get stuck in are probably what really appeal to Maresca.

Just read about the late bid for Mbeumo. I despise them.
I feel like they don't go into windows with targets, just let everyone else do the scouting then try and sneak in.

We didn’t bid for Mbeumo, ffs. Club have already denied it apparently. We’ve got 3 players already who are highly effective on that right side.

We’re after someone who plays on the left.

It's far more believable that Chelsea did bid

Gittens, Neto, George, Nkunku?

Neto and Palmer are both great over on the right and we have Estevão coming in who plays there mainly. Not to mention we spent huge money on Quenda who comes in next summer. To have all of that and bid for Mbeumo is silly to imagine even for us.
Gittens, Neto, George, Nkunku?
Gittens is really our only actual senior LW currently. Neto & Nkunku can play there but aren’t natural. George I think goes out on loan because I don’t see a place for him.

Well they would wouldn't they.

Not sure you can play the it wasn't logical card when it comes to Chelsea and transfers, it's very believable that they tried.

Nah, not in this case. The higher ups at the club are extremely excited about Estevão and think he could become a superstar. Pedro Neto was one of our best players at the CWC. Both play on the right side. For us to go out and spend £70m on Mbeumo isn’t believable at all for me.

Look at the group of players we’ve been credibly linked with today as potential next signing. Xavi Simons, Yildiz, Rogers, and Garnacho. We were loosely linked with Rodrygo weeks ago. These are all players who operate on the left or centrally. We absolutely aren’t interested in yet another RW. It’s the one area of the attack we’re probably too stacked in.

No. There have been late attempts under Clearlake that were real and not denied. And that's besides the transfer making zero sense, which sure... is a fun meme to propagate amongst opposition fans regarding Chelsea's transfer policy - but not based on reality.

They are going to be title contenders surely now.

Chelsea fans can help me on this. Does the fun of winning diminish slightly, considering financially you are the equivalent of a cheat code.

We won't have proper pre-season. How we start the season will determine we are title contenders or not. Liverpool, arsenal, City, manunited, newcastle all upgrade their squads. Season will be interesting for sure.

I wouldn’t worry too much about that…

But very believable for most people, really.

Otherwise I might find the Mbeumo enquiry semi-believable but he's simply too fecking old for Winstanley and Stewart. He's turning 26 in two weeks so for these guys he might as well be wheeled off to a nursing home at this point. No way they'd sanction a £65M deal on big wages for someone like that.

Other than that I wouldn't put it past them to have at least asked. Whether a player is actually needed or not does not seem to rank very high on their list of priorities when planning their next moves on the market. We've been in urgent need of a top goalkeeper and a leading CB since those guys took over but they've continued to neglect both positions yet they can't stop hoarding attacking talent.

No europe will have its own benefits for you. All starts from 0 so you have good advantage of entire season with no European games and enough time to develop playing style and spine for your team. Surely top 4 contenders.

@WeePat

What do you think is your best 11/How would you like to line-up and what positions would you like to see improvement in?

No, we're not. We're too far behind. This will hopefully be a year of consolidation/stabilization, but finishing 6th would be a good achievement.

It depends on who we're facing and where their strengths & weaknesses are.

The aim is to get ourselves into a 3-2-5 or 3-1-6 shape with possession while defending in a 4-4-2 / 5-3-2. Our squad is at this point extremely versatile with most players able to shift positions - so Maresca can be quite creative about how we go about it.

That said, if I have to pick a default best XI at this point it's probably:
--------------------Pedro---------------------
Gittens--------Palmer-----------Neto
----------Enzo-----------Caicedo---------
Cucurella-Colwill--Chalobah-James

This would have James moving into midfield, Enzo moving up to the left 10, Palmer at right 10, and Neto/Gittens staying wide. Colwill as the central CB with Cucu and Chalobah defending the half spaces. Against low blocks probably Gusto comes on for James and Delap for Gittens - with Delap up top, JP central with Palmer and Enzo, Neto at LW, and Gusto high on the right. Or Cucurella can overlap or move into midfield, etc.

Neto not going to play there?

We're in for Garnacho now as well . Eghbali and the boys getting busy.

Yeah, Im not buying that.

Damn, also linked to Jorrel Hato now. a really good CB talent..

They're probably buying him more as a backup for Cucurella (and maybe Colwill as well) so he's most likely going to play LB more, which is odd since he wanted to focus on being a CB. As I said in the transfer thread I'm not sure he's ready, he's still very raw and has disappeared in some big games like that game against Spain in Nations League where he looked out of his depth.
As a backup option he'll have time to improve but his potential is pretty high, his physical tools are impressive. The rumoured fee is €60M, at this point of his career this is a wild overpay that could backfire badly if he doesnt develop the way they hope.

Beeb also reporting on the Xavi Simons move - so another 50mill plus signing for a position they are well stocked in. it is going well beyond a piss take now.
penny for the thoughts of clubs like Newcastle who have also unlimited funds but not the wherewithal to get past the PSR rules,

The big thing as you say is that there isn’t going to be huge pressure on him right away to be a superstar or anything. He can be used as a starter in the cup competitions and as a sub/rotation option for Cucu in the bigger comps to start with.

If we were to spend £50m+ on him and wanted to throw him straight in as first choice I’d be slightly concerned.

From last season's squad;

Madueke - sold
Felix - almost sold
Sancho - returned to sender
Mudryk - banned until further notice
Nkunku - will be sold

Gittens and Estevao have been the only incomings so far.

Gittens is the only LW option, with Neto as decent cover. Neto and Estevao for the right. Palmer is the only 10 or CAM in the squad. Xavi Simons would serve as a potential starter on the left and can play alongside Palmer in a system with two 10s or and also serve as Palmer's main back up.
