Chelsea 2025-26 - Worldwide losingest team of the 2025-26 season

Now that is some great spin doctoring.
Immediately drop that news after yet another cup final defeat.

I think Alonso will do well at Chelsea. They have excellent wing backs and defense. A couple of attackers, and they will be another CL contender next season.

Hopefully he bombs. Chelsea falling out of the CL race again next season would make life a lot easier for us.

He's been really good since Maresca left. One of our most promising players actually. Most Chelsea fans rate him and like him. Good signing.

Good to hear! He was very impressive in his last Ajax season.. I think he is very similar to Jurrien Timber. Where Timber slightly edges in control and technique on the ball, Hato slightly edges in physique and acceleration..

Wingbacks are the main area we lack I feel (if he plays that system).

James in theory yes but I don't think his knees can handle the role. We'd need to invest in atleast one specialist wingback (and hope Neto can do a Moses).

He had two cheatcode wingbacks at Levekusen.

Quenda has previously been excellent as a wingback - hopefully that translates

Finally smart move from Chelsea. Is it smart for Alonso? Real Madrid and Chelsea aren't 'project' clubs and Madrid sacked him because of it. Chelsea will have to be wiser than Real Madrid but also than they often are to make this work.

Bit odd there were never links to Liverpool. Was reported one of the reason Liverpool did not go with Amorim in 2024 was him playing with back 3. Maybe it's the reason they did not consider Alonso.

They didn't go for Amorim because he was inflexible in his formation and philosophy. I don't know if that is the case with Alonso.

Alonso has preferences but he is flexible. Judging by how he played himself, how he set up at Leverkusen and what he requested but failed to get at Madrid he wants a CDM/Quarterback to build around.

That was exactly his own position as a player, Xhaka did it for him at Leverkusen and he wanted Zubimendi at Real. The best player for his Chelsea project would be Ruben Neves but he is probably on 10x the wages at Saudi.

As for his formation he played with rampaging wing backs at Leverkusen due to the characteristics of his players, at Real he had very attacking wing forwards that wouldn't track back as well so his wing backs had to stay back more. Due to not having a proper playmaking CDM his #10 had to play make further up field. Basically he can play any system out there depending on the players he has available, not dogmatic at all.

I’d absolutely love for them to sign Neves.

One of footballs "What ifs", not nearly getting his flowers.

Through the years there has been a fair few players who preferred to play at lower level clubs (Riquelme, di Natale, Shearer, Aduritz, Reus, Totti, Juninho, young Iker Muniain, Oyarzabal) in the big leagues and thus never got the recognition they truly deserved. Well respected but they lacked the push of having played for a Mega Team in order to be recognized for what they truly were.

Yet others like Oscar, Hulk, Danny (Portuguese at Zenit), Aboutrika, Ochoa, Wilmar Barrios, Alex (Fenerbahce), Darijo Srna, Taison, Mario Jardel, Alex Teixeira, Henrik Larsson and Ruben Neves amongst others preferred to play in some obscure league for money or life style.

Neves is playing #6 and pushing Vitinha to #8, Bruno Fernandes to #10 and Joao Neves to RB. Absolute beast of a player + by all accounts someone who has the minerals to become a top manager in 10-15 years time.

True but isn't not wanting to play there long term the main reason he rejected (Amorims) United for us?

Could maybe be more how Amorim uses wingbacks tactically, but still.

Their recent Wembley record is impressive.

Another year where their FA Cup draws were incredible. Didn't face a single prem side until the SF.

Have to feel for Graham Potter in his ill fated six month spell. Two domestic cup draws he had as Chelsea manager and he got Man. City away in third round on both occasions!

That's amazingly bad luck.

Especially for a Chelsea manager when you're 9 times out of 10 getting something like Kidderminster or Scunthorpe at home until at least the quarter finals. Some managers are just unlucky. Ole used to regularly get shit cup draws.

Hoping they get conference league, so they will be forced to keep a bloated squad for it.

You forced the poor bugger out of his home club!

Yes, to Spain. Then he chose to sign for Tottenham of all teams. I like the lad, but Chelsea fans booing a Cobham kid who plays for Tottenham is about as fair and normal as it gets.

Doesn't matter if he does or not. I'm just telling you a Chelsea lad playing for Tottenham will get booed and is fair game. I know you understand that.

yeap, 99% of times happens with any Club rivalry

We should still trim the squad regardless. Play the U21 and fringe players in the conference league and see how far they go. Would be a good experience for them. We should not include any key players in those games.

But ideally we get Europa League or no Europe at all.

Could easily get Europa league now unless you're going to field youth team at Brighton.

Alonso and the club will certainly take that just to give them another route into CL next season.
