Willian had a good moan at a few players tonight noticeably Azpeliqueta in the first half....he wouldn’t have scored himself anyway the moaning shit cnut.

Strutting around the field like he’s Messi. He scored 3 league goals last season and 6 the year before.....last person I’d be giving a penalty.

Don’t know why but I can’t stand him.
Huh? Willian is objectively a better player than Ross fckn Barkley. Despite what armchair fans think, he was wanted by Mourinho here, and by Barcelona this past summer so whether you can stand him or not is beside the point.

One could look at it another way: if Barkley is the penalty taker, then maybe Willian and Jorginho should get out of his face and not distract him. Will be interesting to see the media's take on this.

I never seen Barkley taking a penalty. At Everton, it was always Baines or Lukaku before he started missed some of them.

I’ve seen Jorginho taking it at Chelsea & Napoli.

I just never understand how Barkley is allowed to take it, and it was terrible penalty as well that he took today.

Funny thread because none of us had a clue about Chelsea's main penalty taker.

Lampard has explained it so people should now attack Willian and Jorginho for their stupid behaviour.
Cillessen is known in Holland for being pretty much the shittiest penalty stopper possible. He was also famously subbed by LVG in the world cup 2014 before the penalty shootout.
Missing against him in that manner, with all the fuss, shockingly hilarious.
But this is true too.
If Cillessen or De Gea will save your penalty then you should retire.

there you go, Lampard always does the right thing.

Rashford and Pogba are our designated penalty takers. Ole said this. Both of them debated who to take the penalty against Wolves. Pogba missed, the press had a field day.

Ross Barkley is the designated penalty takers for Chelsea, Lampard says. As he was preparing to take his penalty, a couple of Chelsea players hung around him, questioning whether he should be taking it while appearing like they want to take the kick themselves.

And yet, Ole is the one who doesn't have a handle on his team?

There will be no "gate"

It's not Pogba and it's not United.

A player missing a penalty is not a fecking story. It's football. Neville was a disgrace and should have been ridiculed for his silly rant.

Pogba and Rashford didn't even debate it, Rashford went up to Pogba and simply asked if he wanted it. Pogba said yes and Rashford had no issues with it.

There was certainly no insubordination to the extent we saw last night, and yet the media will say nothing.

Absolute pisstake.

the hypocrisy is what annoys me the most here as it does in other parts of life. The same people who were saying Ole was weak and has no control of his players are now saying: "Lampard did the right thing saying Barkley is the designated penalty taker" without addressing why there was so much discussion if that was the case and how come Barkley is the penalty taker even if he's not a regular; "Lampard will surely handle it in the team", "it is not a problem for Chelsea, its just a penalty miss" when they were saying United has a big problem forgetting the fact that in our game we drew it and Chelsea lost it because of the miss. And also Pogba at least hit the target, it was just that the keeper guessed correct. Barkley missed the target.
These sort of things really boils my blood more than anything.

Gary Neville's interview with Don Balon :
"You can see how Pogba's incident has influenced the other players too. In the history of Premier League, I have never, ever seen such a confusion like that. Willian and Barkley, are you Pogbas? You're team mates, play like mates then, why arguing? Back in my days Roy Keane used to piss all over his mates but He's hard and allowed. Pogba? He's a child, a man child in need of changing diaper. They're imitating Pogba's stupidity. Chelsea is like that now, soon, the other teams will follow too. It's a trend like his hairstyle, always causes havoc everywhere. I hate Pogba, his brother even paraded him around in interviews saying He's for sale. Sell Pogba to Real Madrid I'm telling you, sell him for 69 million now. I'm Pogue Mahone."

I don’t have a problem with anybody missing a penalty. They’re so difficult and goalkeepers these days are so agile. They do all their homework.
Even this one?

So Lampard says that Barkley is the designated penalty taker no matter if he starts or comes on as a sub..

Ok so why is Jorginho, Abraham and Willian pestering him before he takes it and trying to get the ball off him?

Bizarre.
I’d be fuming if I was Lampard and Barkley. That kind of distraction before taking a penalty isn’t going to help at all.

To be fair, Chelsea are not as big as United to create controversy and clicks. They also don't have a former legend in the media who bends over backwards to seem "impartial" - and who has a agenda against a particular player.

Better player sure but Barkley was assigned penalty taker for a reason, apparently he’s been taking penalties all summer upto now.

Willian always looks great on the ball, I almost expect him to dribble past 3 players, put the keeper on his ass but then miss the open net. His finishing is terrible.

This shows up the lack of leadership on the pitch and the lack of leadership behind the scenes at Chelsea and the lack of leadership in London in General

Lets be honest, after all that hoopla, did anyone think he would actually score?!

You just knew he was going to miss.

Doesn't make it any less funny mind you!

So it's weak management by Lampard right?
No. I thought the Pogba/Rashford fiasco was massively overblown at the time and if the reaction by the press to this Barkley/Willian debate is even remotely similar then that will be an overblown reaction too.

In fact, I said:
Why's the penalty become such a hot talking point? It's a complete lottery ffs, striking a ball from twelve yards. Anything can happen regardless of how you try to approach it. If we're talking hypotheticals, saying that Rashford might have scored it, you might as well talk about the hypothetical where Pogba takes it and scores. 9/10, Pogba puts it home, but this time he didn't. That's the point of penalties, it can go either way and sometimes you miss them.

If you start blaming isolated incidents for dropped points then it ignores the fundamental issues that bothered you last night. Namely that once you lost control of the game you never wrestled it back, that you didn't do as much with the ball as Wolves did even though they had much less of it, and that Shaw really struggled to cope once Traore was at him because he received basically no protection from the midfield.

I'm sure Ole's looking at those things as we speak, but Neville losing his mind over the penalty just smacks of Sky trying to drum up controversy.

Why managers allow that? I simply can't understand it.
You are bloody manager. Just as you decide who plays what, you must decide set piece takers. You must say who is first penalty taker, who is second, third....
And it is a rule during the game. No matter is some players birthday, 100 game for the club or he got a baby. Allowing players to decide is awful decision. And it looks really disgraceful when you see players fighting for pk.

Surely they know who the penalty taker is.. if there are more than 1 and its on rotation, pick one and go with it.

Once he was taking the penalty, 3 or 4 players going up to him was silly.. Let him take it.

Yeah that's what I remember when he stepped to take that penalty. Basically with Cilessen if you hit the target that's going in, he's never going to save a penalty that is on target. This should be common knowledge among professional footballers before they play a team that has him in goal which is why I don't get why Barkley went for a powerful strike with the risk of missing the target, which he did. Play it safe if you know goalkeeper isn't going to save it anyway.

You can't legislate for what players do in the heat of the game.

Personally I don't know if I believe Lampard when he says Barkley is designated taker. Call me a cynic, but it felt to me as he was trying to kill the controversy dead.

Sorry, but yes you can and you must. Players must listen their manager. If they listen when he says you must play on this way or you play on rw or you mark this player then it goes for penalties. If Lampard says before game: "x player is no1 taker, y player is no2 and it is a rule" then players must act with that.
Not to mention that all that talk who will take it, kills player's concentration . Look at latest examples with Barkley and Pogba

The funniest thing about this thread is all the comments from United fans absolutely determined to see some sort of conspiracy against Pogba/United. Despite the fact that this incident has generated almost exactly the same amount of focus in the media and on here as we saw after Pogba missed the penalty for United. The only difference is that Lampard told the press that the bloke who missed was the nominated penalty taker, while Ole said that he's happy for Pogba and Rashford to discuss it on the pitch.

Yeah, sure.

So what do you do when players like Willian who knows full well he isn't the designated taker starts pestering the designated taker, whoever that may be.

If Lampard has given Barkley pen duty, Willian and Jorginho should never second guess him before he takes it. The pressure is bad enough.
