I don’t have a problem with anybody missing a penalty. They’re so difficult and goalkeepers these days are so agile. They do all their homework.
Again that's not the point..

Because they think otherwise. Doesn't mean they're right.
Doesn't mean Barkley is right either. He didn't start the game so he can't of been designated from the outset. Unless when he comes on to the pitch he takes them over every other player (which seems odd as his last one was three years ago)

Didnt they see our farce vs Wolves? Argue about who is taking the penalty and you miss.

Willian had a good moan at a few players tonight noticeably Azpeliqueta in the first half....he wouldn’t have scored himself anyway the moaning shit cnut.

Strutting around the field like he’s Messi. He scored 3 league goals last season and 6 the year before.....last person I’d be giving a penalty.

Don’t know why but I can’t stand him.

So Lampard says that Barkley is the designated penalty taker no matter if he starts or comes on as a sub..

Ok so why is Jorginho, Abraham and Willian pestering him before he takes it and trying to get the ball off him?

Bizarre.

Well no one knows the answer to your question. What I did say; however, is that Barkley took a lot during pre season, so like Ole said with Rashford and Pogba swapping, could also be the case with Barkley and Jorginho. Guessing Lampard will shed more light on it in his post match conference.

Like I said, he took them during pre season.

What's happened here?

Why is Barkley taking it when Jorginho is the penalty taker and a specialist?

Massive conversations beforehand with Willian and Jorginho seemingly telling Barkley they wanted it. Is Lampard weak not having this decided before the game?
Noooo. Lampard was being really clever there. He devised a great plan to confuse the goalkeeper by instructing his players to argue over the penalty. It didn't work this time but will work the next 99 times. ...

Just checked and Barkley wasn't on the pitch when Jorginho scored his penalty against Liverpool in the Super Cup and Barkley scored his penalty in the shootout. I don't think they have had any other penalties this season.

I thought Jorginho or Willian should have taken it. Abraham is flying as well. Barkley taking them seems weird, he doesnt strike me as someone you would want taking them as your first choice.

Poor leadership
To quote the great Johan Cruyff: Before I make a mistake, I don't make that mistake.

The mistake was Ross Barkley putting himself above the team to take the penalty. Frank Lampard has 0 control over who takes what in the heat of the game. It has absolutely nothing to do with his leadership abilities that Barkley ignores his teammates and proceeds to kick the ball onto some poor guys carwindow outside the stadium.

I was joking.... For the sake of argument, I will answer you though. If the line of penalty takers is crystal clear then there is zero argument among players because Lampard would have taken care of it before. Managers can spare themselves these moments by ordering the players to follow his command and respect his main taker. As simply as that
However I wasn't even serious in the first place

I disagree but everyone's entitled to their opinions.
I’ve always thought he’s a-bit of a nothing player who can have the odd good game, get a goal every now and again. I was amazed Chelsea bought him. Always thought he was destined for the likes of West Ham.

Are you the ref?
Lampard has said that Barkley is the designated penalty taker as soon as he comes on the pitch.

If there is fault to be found, it is with his teammates who maybe put more pressure on him and undermined him.

Has anyone ever scored a penalty that two players argued over? I swear they are more often than not misses.

Cillessen is known in Holland for being pretty much the shittiest penalty stopper possible. He was also famously subbed by LVG in the world cup 2014 before the penalty shootout.

Missing against him in that manner, with all the fuss, shockingly hilarious.

You just knew he was going to miss when Willian and co were getting in his ear  That's a proper example of creating a commotion over a penalty, bet you won't hear a peep out of Gary Neville about it though.
