When your options are limited, you end up with this level.
Exactly, Rangnick never expected to lose both Carrick and McKenna. He tried to bring other coaches in but they weren't interested.

This is hard to read for me.

Why did he have to this conversation with SAF where he needed to explain his credibility as a coach? Is it implied here SAF is still lurking in the shadow and influencing the club somehow? It makes both sides look bad from this narrative.
if he was influencing and thought he wasnt good enough, he woudnt be there?

It was a chance meeting after a game of football and Armas likely took the opportunity to have a chat. Beyond that there isn't anything more to it as far as Fergie is concerned.

Influencing is not the same as controlling. We're short staffed when RR came so under RR suggestion we would get the coaches he knows, especially as interim manager. There is no time for RR to wait until he can interview and recruit a coaching team mid season, when Ole is being sacked.

The influence means part of the club subscribe to the same idea, but offering no solution. No respect for Amas from the player report for example. Then what? Noone is coming to replace him. Players have the excuse to downtool?

Hope that's the case. Not putting more fuel into the raging flame about factors at the club.

If Rangnick had decided to bring in our youth coaches instead, we wouldn't have done worse imo.

Absolutely appalling hire. Like I said in the Rangnick thread, replace this guy with Lars Kornetka (Rangnick's usual no.2) and the season would probably have turned out differently.

i see what you mean, depends if it did trickle down through the squad. But yeah these players need little excuse

There is going to be loads of shit written over next few days. Now people are out the door they will be belittled and blamed for everything whether it is correct or not as everyone absolves themselves of blame.

I doubt it’s true and if it is you can only laugh at the ridiculousness of it if it’s not tongue in cheek as something similar should have directed at the club when they decided a manager who’d been sacked by Cardiff and was plodding along in Norway was the way forward.

Ferguson probably said it tongue in cheek, joking and they had a laugh about it.

I can’t imagine he’d say it mockingly or seriously. He can be a nasty bastard for sure but I don’t think hed be a complete cnut to someone he barely knows.

Some of these stories coming out from The Athletic I'd expect to see in a Sun gossip column. I doubt there's much substance to them.

It's a nothing story. Even if it is true, so what? It is partly true and could partly be said as a light hearted comment.

Rangnick hasn't worked. Armas is neither here nor there for me, he's part of Ralf's decision making. I have no opinion on him as a coach all things considered, I just know he didn't have the credibility on paper but new managers and coaching teams taking on a 6 month gig probably won't.

It’s just two human beings talking to each other man. Fergie probably wanted to know more about the assistant manager of his club, which he’s completely entitled to do.

I'd read it as Sir Alex saying that he couldn't get by on just his resume at Utd. Or at least I hope that's what he be saying.

I thought with this thread at the top, it meant he’d gone.

Why hasn’t he gone yet? Will it be announced tomorrow that he’s gone?

please

Says who? The article just feels like click bait to me. The season is over now, most fans just want to move on from this shit show.
The Athletic journalists are incredibly well sourced.

This guy played at international level. Some of Sir Alex's coaches didn't even play at professional level (Meulensteen, Queiroz). I imagine the snobbery over Armas is because he is an American in football.

They’ve really gone down the pan in my opinion. It’s too lucrative to not cash in on the clickbaity sensationalist writing that dominates football journalism, they’ve become the masters of writing a really nicely put together and interesting article that words each writers’ opinion as if it’s a third party quote.

He's going along with all the others Rangnick brought in. Looks like Eric Ramsay will be staying on with Phelan's future up in the air.

I imagine it's because he's nowhere near the level required for United. Both things are true at the same time, we have a dressing room of entitled cnuts and non-top level coaches.

Rangnick had in mind a former player with proven Premier League experience who could relate to the younger generation to join him as his assistant but Brexit regulations meant a work permit was not possible.

Next, Rangnick targeted a European coach tipped for great things but immigration rules again blocked the approach. United tried to convince the authorities of his credentials, compiling a 35-page dossier for the FA, but with no success.

Rangnick then approached somebody with a long list of trophies on his CV, but the short-term nature of the job made getting that calibre of coach impossible. Rangnick ultimately looked to his Red Bull connections for Armas and Sharp.

DdG is staying & literally did that this afternoon as did McT after the Arsenal game. Shaw went away with England after an abysmal season for us, scores a goal & talks about how the club makes him feel rather than addressing his own failings this season.

We’ve certainly got a few leaving this Summer that we won’t miss but we’ve got a fair share of talkers left.

which is why I take any of their opinions with a massive grain of salt. Do you honestly expect Carl Anka to be objective about Rashford?
