No value in the market said the manager of the club that just banked 80 million quid on one player, a world record fee at the time.

This, plus the incredibly tough cup runs we had, makes our treble way more impressive. And yet some idiots (I’m pretty sure) think City’s was more impressive!

Seven matches in April 1992 with just 13 non-match days separating them, including the run you mentioned that saw us play four matches with just a single day separating each game.
We also had a squad that effectively consisted of just 16-18 players, and were only allowed to name two subs per match.
City are moaning about having to play six matches with 14 non-match days between them, with a squad of 25+ available to them and the ability to make five subs per game from a bench of nine.

yeah - I feel we were being noble and maybe didn't realise the level of money that was entering the sport with Chelsea/City. We supposedly refused the agent fees and turned down Hazard for example, Tevez we did not want to buy out the dual ownership or something like that + he wanted huge money, then years later we top the agent's fees list after Woodward comes in and splurges.

The crazy thing is that even if there were no under the table payments to players (it's been proven that there was to Managers as it's in the leaked emails) there would still be fraud on an industrial scale if the allegations are upheld.

It has long been known that they use a trick where they get a sponsorship and then the owner covers like 2/3rds of the amount of the deal. It allows companies to seemingly offer them sponsorships of, say, £50m but only really pay £15m themselves and then the rest is reimbursed to them from the Sheikh.

That's not really a good comparison and yeah money can only take you so far. That distance being from a small yoyo club to a club winning The Treble, multiple titles and cups.
Because they are still in the North West of England, it's the same problem United and Liverpool have face for decades in attracting players.
All things being equal a player might still chose Liverpool or United over City. But they don't and over the last decades they mostly haven't. Which means the $£$£$£$£$£ both official and unofficial is the deciding factor and has allowed them to hoover up top talents on a scale that has not been seen in English football other than the Roman years at Chelsea.
And that's with FFP in place, so we can imagine what they'd have been up to with no regulations to contend with.
Yep, they doubled the fee wages that United had agreed with his owner as part of the 2 year loan. United met the £25m fee agreed but Tevez and his master didn't even reply. Likely because they'd already made their mind up a year before that he was going to City.

Absolutely, Kia had close ties with Abu Dhabi and negotiated their purchase of City in 2008, once that happened he was always going there. It's been long speculated that a big part of the reason City was so attractive to them was because of proxomity to United, getting them competing would make a much bigger wave than say Stockport or Wigan. So I'd assume they were keen to buy a Top United player and Tevez was the only one they could realisitcally get which explains why they doubled United's offer. My personal theory is Fergie/Gill had an idea what was going on with Tevez and City early into the 2008-09 season, Carlos was a cracking player on his day but I was never too fussed he left, given his unprofessionalism and outbursts I feel we dodged a bullet.

Given the threat of them not getting punished at all, you'd be tempted to take that, no CL next season, no Pep, it could still be the end of them for a good while.
And the fact they'd have been found guilty of cheating would be a massive thing, and forever taint them.
When the charges first came out I had hopes of oblivion for them, but it's clearly not happening.

Yeah it's insane. While they just continue to win trophies and sign players as if nothing has happened.
It's the fact that there is zero heat from the media on either City, or the people working on the verdit that gets me.
Just constant praise for Pep, who City plan to buy in the summer, and pretending that everyone finds a title race involving City at all exciting.
It's a dereliction of duty by them, for what should really be the most important story in PL history.
Don't worry, when they do eventually get punished, in 2028 or so every journalist will be all over it and pretend that they "always knew" but were prevented from erm..saying anything about it.
Something will drop before a big England World Cup game I'm fairly sure. Will still be two months before prem resumes (although Man. City will inevitably appeal any punishment so saga will continue for at least another season).

I think they’ve probably realised, especially if there’s a hefty punishment, they can’t drop it mid-season because it’ll warp everything. Say they got a 90 point penalty that effectively relegated them. That wouldn’t be fair on teams that had played them already.
If there isn’t a verdict this off season, though…
