City and Financial Doping | Charged by PL with 130 FFP breaches | Hearing concluded | Awaiting outcome

If the punishment is severe (doubt it) will they start next season with a deduction of points? I guess they can’t just demote them to the championship and not have another team ready to take their place

I still don't understand how this deal was permitted to carry through. Chelsea had very recent success yet couldn't find a lucrative naming rights deal. And City's stadium-plus deal dwarfed a far more famous and historic venue rights, Madison Square Garden, and odd in that they didn't even own the venue. Then it's a company owned by the same fund that owns the club. It was blatant from the start.

In that case, couple of teams (one which is relegated, one which lost CL spot, one which lost EL spot...) would have big case for appeal. Another huge problem for PL.

If they get points deduction then that should be implemented for this season. In that case they are demoted based on league position (if they get 50-60 points deduction). No club would have reason for appeal (regarding this season).

Hull will likely try to sue for the place if they lose today

It won't get decided before the official end of this season though as that's only about a week away.
They'd simply start next season with any big deduction which would be better as that'd write next season off and potentially mean they start the season after in the championship. Whereas do it this season and they just cruise back next year.

Obviously the "smart" money is this rumbles on for yet another unspecified time and is eventually smuggled away in fines and transfer bans.

City are allowed to sponsor themselves and give themselves a world record fee for stadium naming rights but of course it’s all above board…

It’s just a coincidence that City and Etihad are both owned by the same people.

If they’re going to hammer them now is the time. Lost the league and their coach. Its a rebuild for them so time to stick the knife in.

Briefly mentioned on MOTD last night, probably the first time I've seen them give it any more than a brief acknowledgement.

It's the perfect time for their punishment. Next season we should get a United-Arsenal title chase and a City relegation (as well as being stripped of their titles). Like the good ol' days.

Fair play to Shearer for saying on Match of the Day that it's a disgrace how long this has taken. About time the media started making a bit of noise about this.

Part of the reason they don’t bring it up on sky , BT or MOTD is because it taints the product. It really would suit most of them if this just went away.

I’d like to think that Pep is fleeing a sinking ship (certainly getting out before any fallout).

I'd like to think that too, but I think it's for sporting reasons. Not being champions 2 years in a row, big rebuild ahead... If he doesn't get the title next year with a club that apparently has a bottomless pit of money, it could "taint" his legacy. I'm pretty sure he's jumping ship just for that reason.

I'm pretty sure City have sent legal documents to the broadcasters threatening them if they do discuss the charges and it's much easier for them to ignore it for now.

The bullying part is likely true (I think there were a few examples that came to light) and probably a big element with regards to broadcasters/producers, but overall I think it just suits most pundits' lazy approach to their job to pretend the charges don't exist. It would require research and nuance, and they're mostly incapable of both.

Handofarsenal, who is someone who works at Arsenal and as far as I can remember has never been wrong (including saying that Pep was leaving and they're naming a stand after him - like a month ago just before everyone else started saying it) has said this:

"It is my understanding, there is a seriously confident expectation now for a decision on the Man City 115 case to be delivered in the coming weeks ( sometime in the summer latest )

All Premier League clubs await official communication."

I don't really care that much that the TV pundits haven't said anything.

It's probably wise that they don't risk legal action by saying something "wrong".

What is pretty inexcusable is the actual football journalists who have not only said feck all, but have been actively celebrating all things Manchester City just because they get a cushy hospitality package when they visit.

Yeah sorry when I said pundits, it was meant to be all-encompassing. They're mostly all hacks in fairness so I don't distinguish much except for a few of them.

Even if there is a decision in the next couple months I can't imagine there would be any punishment sorted, if ever, for at least another year

Surely in the next 2 weeks is the time, if not, it'll be another year.
Even if it comes in the next 2 weeks it means nothing for next season, whoever loses will appeal and then if City do get found guilty and lose the appeal there's still another hearing to come for the punishment.

Will take the hope of the decision finally coming out in June.

3 years after the charges were brought, and a decade or more after when all the stuff helped them immeasurably build this monster up.

Even if they had a 60 point deduction that effectively made next season a write off, they'd still benefit from the force they've become and the supposed numbers they generate now.

That's why it has to be way more than 60 points. In fact it should not be a points deduction but a definitive sanction like an exclusion, a disqualification of the owners and a PL transfer ban when they inevitably get back in like the cockroaches that they are.

They could settle, if the decision is they're only guilty of some of the charges. Can't see how dragging it out for years more helps anyone. Already ridiculous.

Probably part of it but I genuinely think that he’s leaving because like Klopp, full on challenges at the top level take it out of you. Plus his marriage broke down because he signed a new contract last time. I’d say that he’s just mentally done

This is going to drag on forever.
Yep, they can appeal the outcome and apparently it will take an additional two years for the appeal to be heard and a ruling made on that. That's what a barrister said when asked by one of the tabloids.

Basically drag it out as long as possible.

Ban them for five years. Burn the grounds down too.

Which is why the maximum penalties wont happen, i imagine it will be a negotiated punishment between City and the league, at worst it will be a championship relegation, they aren't getting thrown out of english football. Because if the punishments were actually punishing to them, theres no reason for them to not drag it out for years and years and ultimately tear the product apart. Like we had with City challenging premier league rules to CAS before, i imagine most of the rules are done on gentlemens agreements, City could likely tear most of it down in legal proceedings.

A few places online are saying it will be a points deduction and a transfer ban. Doesn't say how many points or how long a ban. But alledgly City have the best lawyers money can buy on it, to appeal the verdict as soon as it's made.

The longer it goes on, the more pathetic the PL looks and the greater clamour for a harsher punishment.

Presumably, the moment this actually comes to a conclusion they'll immediately investigate from 2018 onwards as there's no way city just decided to start towing the line from that point
We'll have to go through all this again

What a stain on the league this whole sorry mess is

It'll never happen. One of the reasons we shouldn't have let states own football clubs is that they can swing such huge political leverage that they are immune to stuff like that.

Points deduction

Joke really. They’ll win the PL again within 2-3 years. cnuts.
