City and Financial Doping | Charged by PL with 130 FFP breaches | Hearing concluded | Awaiting outcome

I can see the PL dropping the decision in the middle of the world cup in attempt to mute discussion and cover up embarrassment.

I’d be happy with starting next season on -60 points. Almost basically guarantees relegation.

That’s at least 5 years without a title.
A 3 year transfer ban. ( can’t keep their players on the wages they’re on in the championship)
Stripped of all titles between the time in question.

Yeah I don't want it applied to this season either. Let them waste a year playing for points that won't matter anyway.

I'm sure West Ham would rather they got 60 points taken from them this season.

That's why it has to be way more than 60 points. In fact it should not be a points deduction but a definitive sanction like an exclusion, a disqualification of the owners and a PL transfer ban when they inevitably get back in like the cockroaches that they are.
Agreed. Also 60 points leaves risk of PL survival. It is highly unlikely they'd achieve what would be 100 points. They've done it before.
34 points has been enough for a 17th place finish previously too.

Though it would be hilarious if they came 18th by a point, don't know what I'd love most. That or them scrambling to be into a positive point total

Their players might be able to void their contracts too. Suspect recent additions will have had clauses written in, but who knows. Could open a huge can of worms.

The absolute gall of these creeps, not caring one jot about the huge damage their shit flinging is doing to the game and they carry on, regardless. Subhumans.
Reminds me if Trump. Money = immunity.

A few places online are saying it will be a points deduction and a transfer ban. Doesn't say how many points or how long a ban. But alledgly City have the best lawyers money can buy on it, to appeal the verdict as soon as it's made.
No stripping them of the titles from 2012-2018? That would have been funny.

I wonder if as you say the verdict will be announced as guilty, they will appeal and a compromise will be reached.

Even if the titles aren't stripped officially, every football fan in the land will act as if they have been, and rightly so. And if 99% of the world football audience don't recognise your titles as authentic then they might as well not be.

Yep, they can appeal the outcome and apparently it will take an additional two years for the appeal to be heard and a ruling made on that. That's what a barrister said when asked by one of the tabloids.

Basically drag it out as long as possible.
Appeal and drag for another 2 years?! Seriously. Thought this didn't have an appeal because it was the league who supposedly run things issuing it.

That would be brilliant. League season absolutely pointless and certain relegation whatever happens. Then next year having to start in the championship.

You'd see their rats leaving so quickly utd be hilarious.

To be honest, I don't really remember which titles have been stripped from Juventus, and that whole thing is already never mentioned at all in common discourse, match commentary, punditry, journalism, etc. It only really matters for the Wikipedia page, and that wasn't even that long ago.

English fans will care more about City, but the general footballing world won't.

You'd have thought the smart call from City would be to agree some sort of plea bargain.
But I bet they're so arrogant they think they can battle all charges off.

Well. Biggest concern is that the Premier League rules aren’t going to survive legal scrutiny. I don’t think they will.

Some stuff will obviously stick, but i doubt it’s going to be anything that will properly hurt them.

Look at the APT rules that were initially passed, Newcastle voted against it and Manchester City abstained, it passed the majority threshold and the rules were introduced. You essentially have a league agreement on what the rules will be, great. Fast forward a few years and Manchester City are annoyed about how it’s being used to reduced their assessed fair market value for sponsorship agreements with their owner, so they go after it and manage to throw the entire thing out because of unequal treatment in relation to shareholder loans being exempt. Didn’t matter that the league overall was in agreement that these were the set of rules they wanted to follow. Manchester City voiced their «concerns» about the legality when the original APT rules were passed, but they waited to do something about it until it became a problem.

You might not remember which specific titles were stripped, but the effects were wide reaching and are still felt to this day. It served to undermine faith in Serie A as a competition, and it's never really recovered.

Basically, the rest of the world lost interest in a league that had been proven to have no integrity. That's one reason I don't think the PL will want their titles stripped.

Yeah it's disgusting. 'We're rich, so we don't have to follow the rules everyone else does, and if you dare disagree with us we'll threaten you with legal action, because no one is allowed to tell us no and we expect to get our own way all the time'.

Awful, rotten, horrible human beings.

I'm not sure they will have grounds to appeal.

They can't take this to CAS like they did last time. The only grounds for appeal would be if they had evidence of the independent panel acting in bad faith.

From what I've heard a verdict will be announced first and then sanctions afterwards.

It'll never happen. One of the reasons we shouldn't have let states own football clubs is that they can swing such huge political leverage that they are immune to stuff like that.
Indeed. A state should never be allowed to own a football club. Maybe, the worst thing about modern football. And that's a long list, tbf.

I bet this is like a 25 point penalty. Then everyone moves on with their lives and it's not spoke of again.

When it comes to states involvement in english football, the whole thing is bent. Remember the newcastle takeover getting passed after pressure from the UK Gov on the Prem. What a joke.

My guess would be:

- Transfer ban spanning five windows
- 40 point deduction with a further 20 point suspended for five years
- Retrospectively removal of some honours

I disagree.
The explosive fallout from a slap on the wrist will destroy the integrity of the PL.
There is precedent from recent misdemeanours that were no way near as bad as what city have done.
This will be big but not nearly big enough to satisfy me.
Expulsion from PL for 5 years. Owners must change. Let the Football league work out where they want to put them.
That is the correct punishment. Anything else is bollocks.

Are there any signs of city's owners getting bored of the project, yet? Maybe bailing if found guilty? Or is that too much to hope for?

Be prepared for bollocks. I fully agree that should be the punishment, but we all know it won’t be.

It’ll be points plus transfer ban, I think.

And then years of appeals and City suing the prem/other clubs suing City/other clubs suing the prem.

Going to be a shit show.

Hopefully now that their darling little centerpiece has finally fecked off after 10 years, they'll start experiencing a substantial downturn in results and might begin to lose interest as a result.

Yip.

And the longer it takes to announce a verdict, the bigger the shitshow is going to be.

I think the PL is worried about this being seen as the English Calciopoli

I think that whole scandal really damaged Italian football in a way it hasnt recovered from. I'm not sure if the PL wants negative press that would be brought if City got their titles stripped.

I didn't know Italy had other match fixing scandals besides that one, including 1980 when Ac Mila were relegated. They seemed to recover from that pretty well, but 2006 was a different world.

Difference is, City weren’t historically great in recent times.
It was only a few years before the takeover that they were losing 8-0 to Middlesbrough and dropping to the third tier of English football

That impacted most of the top clubs though, and it was match fixing, which is the worst form of cheating that can happen. The league will survive without City easily.

I think they are more worried about how the government is going to react.

Agreed but how much PL marketing has gone into that Aguero goal?

Pep, "noisy neighbours" etc. Its much the same reason Chelsea's impropriety under Roman has been swept under the carpet.

I can't imagine a world where the PL strips City of all of their league titles. They've let this go too far and too many clubs have been affected for any punishment to be "just".

How do you compensate a team that's been relegated because City beat them twice during that period? Or missed out on Europe?

Any decent punishment severely diminishes Pep's and De Bryune and Halaand's achievements. Asterisk type shit.

Hopefully a total disregard a la MLB with Pete Rose, Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens.

The reputational damage to the PL if they strip titles is something I hadn't really considered but I think the posters above are onto something.

PL is rotten to the core with the state of refereeing being wilfully induged. Blatantly, and wilfully impacting results with impunity. I don’t know at what stage pgmol became their self-governing entity? Always assumed the FA were the authority and it’s turned into turkeys/Christmas. No way Arsenal would’ve got near a title without their aiding and abetting but of course, the alternative was City. What a mess, they have allowed to develop right under their fecking noses while they sit on their fat arses with brandy & cigars. Then there is fifa… corruption everywhere you look. Fans being fleeced and now displaced by corporates. My old fella thought money was ruining the game in the 60s. You gotta laugh.

I think the reputation damage to the PL is going to be far worse if they don't punish them heavily.

They're happy to dish out point deductions to other clubs yet when it comes to cheating on an unprecedented scale, it's a slap on the wrist?

The PL will make themselves look weak and submissive to the Abu Dhabi overlords, and the other clubs in the PL will be furious - especially the likes of Everton and Forest.

They need to throw the book at them.

I doubt it. They strike me as very vindictive bastards who would make it their life's work to punish the rest of the league.

They successfully binned Abramovich for not being a fit and proper owner. Don't see why they can't do the same here seeing as these bastards are seemingly involved in funding wars etc as well.
