City and Financial Doping | Charged by PL with 130 FFP breaches | Hearing concluded | Awaiting outcome

I’m a betting man and I would near bet city won’t get found guilty or innocent.

I think it will be not enough evidence to convict or punish, if they are found guilty regardless of punishment. the premiership will get compo claims from every club in the league at that time. From teams finishing 2nd missing Europe relegated etc so much grounds for compos.

Either letting the decision go on this long to build up the extra money for the compo or find how they don’t have pay the compo
Yeah evidence can disappear when offered bribes

rules are rules but see to be honest ffp rules are biggest loada dung.

I can understand the proof of affordability and source of funds to make sure clubs don’t go bust and prove legality.

But if you buy a business whether it’s a pub a strip joint football club whatever you have to spend money to make money.

Eddie Howe has basically lost a job because multi billionaires have to make the books balance.

But like I said rules are rules

Sure but you've gotta keep the competition fairer somehow. I think very few people want clubs being bought by owners able to put in unlimited money, apart from the fans of a small handful of clubs that have those owners.

TV viewership would barely be scratched at the surface if city get a major punishment. Think there might even be a bump in interest as people see what happens in the fallout

No, not true. The issue is City could challenge the Premiership rules on the basis they contradict basic UK principles of law and would almost certainly win.

City cannot be punished until their guilt is proven. To do otherwise would result in the City lawyers taking the Premiership to the cleaners.
It isn’t uncommon for people to be suspended while they are being investigated. I guess it’s the muscle that City’s lawyers have that makes it a non-starter in this instance.
I don’t have any faith in the PL at this stage, if anything I expect the case to be completely dropped due to the escalating cost.
Surely a verdict should have been reached and made public at this stage.

There is a vast difference from say a player or participant produces an A and the B sample which shows up a banned substance to a club that has been accused of breaking rules/ regulations which is where we are with the City case.

As far as we know the matter is fully in the hands of an IC. We simply don’t know what the delay is about but we are where we are. The PL will not be able to just walk away without the matter being concluded and that will either be a ruling in effect against City, in their favour or potentially ( I very much doubt) that a sanction agreement be put in place.

To process a settlement agreement the entity charged has to admit to the allegations.

The case is complex and the number of charges are substantial but once the argument is won or lost say on the principal then several charges will be ruled on as a matter of course. For instance Mancini charges straddle a couple of years so did they disguise payments or not ?

The only explanation I can come up with is that a matter or point of law has to be explored outside the IC perhaps at the High Court.

City can't sell out allocations to their own fans but somehow the world will stop watching the PL if they get relegated? Find it hard to understand why so many think this way.

I think you are correct, there may actually be an uptick due to the controversy attracting viewers.

After hearing Chelsea's 'punishment' for cheating, I'm more convinced than ever that City will get away with a light slap on the wrist. Something like a 10 year suspended transfer ban, and 99 suspended points deduction.

The one clear distinction here is that Chelsea self reported and the issues related to previous owners. City on the other hand are still owned by the same people responsible for the cheating and they have refused to cooperate every step of the way, if the past is any indication the punishment for not cooperating could end up being far more severe than anything they get for the charges themselves.

Comparing it to Chelseas is (hopefully) pointless… completely different.

Everton and Forest got points deduction and City’s charges are a lot worse so expecting points and lots of… or Everton, Forest and a few others considering their options.

Yeah will be another farcical result

I just don't see the logical link between these two supposed truths:

1) The FA launched the investigation and levied the 115/130 charges against City

2) The FA doesn't want to do anything about City's cheating and wish to sweep it under the rug in order to protect the PL brand

If #2 is true, why would they ever do #1 in the first place? Have I misunderstood something? Am I missing parts of the tale?

It seems more likely to me that the FA did in fact want to deal with the well-known rampant cheating of MCFC, but then they were met with what amounts to the legal team of a whole oil state, and could not match it. Unless I'm wrong about the FA being the ones who first launched the investigations and charges, I don't see a rational reality where they are also in on it and hoping to cover it all up. If they wanted to sweep it all under the rug in order to protect the PL brand, why would they have started the whole thing in the first place? I will not buy that it was a smokescreen. They created far more smoke than there was before it began, so there's no chance that it was all just a big song and dance to whitewash City.

Oh yeah the City legal teams have completely overpowered

Yeah, it's what seems most believable. It also means that the credibility of the PL is entirely gone, as it has now been dominated for a decade by a team that is only there at all because of wholesale cheating and weaponized lawyerism. And that's without even looking at Chelsea.

If it really does turn out that this is all there is to it, the PL is worth nothing at all and deserves to dwindle into irrelevancy. I know it won't just do that right away, but it would be correct and appropriate if it did. There is no competitive integrity at all. It's just an economic proxy war. It's a geopolitical game where one or two teams have AK47s and the rest need to fashion weapons out of whatever they can gather in the forest.

If the sport had began under these conditions, it would have died out within a decade. It's only because it has more than a century of cultural clout behind it that it takes a while to destroy it, but that is very much what these oil clubs are doing. This shit ruins football.

Yeah the PL are gonna be the big losers on this, like you say unable to contain insane levels of cheating. Their credibility has been absolutely shot to pieces and sadly moneybags City are revelling in it. Fully expect Chelsea to just carry on as usual because they know every financial loop hole too. Like you say those two have the big guns whilst the rest of us have to make do in the situation.

We all know they did it, whether it be business or personal, it's just not human nature to not want to clear your name sooner rather than later.

If the FA had placed a transfer ban on them until resolved I suspect we'd have had the outcome 1-2 years ago.

Oh yeah they definitely did it

They also get an easy ride about not actually owning their stadium and yet being able to get sponsor money for it. They should be forced to buy it from the city for a fee adjusted for inflation of what it cost to build. If they refuse then they get evicted :D

I wish it was that simple

Any other clubs in England/Europe benefiting similarly?

Crazy stuff, didn't know that bit about not owning. And when they got their initial sponsor the amount dwarfed the highest to date, Madison Square Garden. Only one of the most famous venues on the planet having hosted major events and known sports teams for nearly a century versus a venue known for (checks notes) hosting the 2002 Commonwealth Games and 2008 UEFA Cup Final and some mid-tier football club. Nothing to see here folks, definitely passed the small test and was certainly reasonable market value for a club that to date had (checks notes) two league titles, a 1970's Cup Winner's Cup, and who's marquee signing to date, Robinho, supposedly didn't know they weren't the nearby rival club.

The thing that's confusing me is, the verdict has been reached for years now, so the argument that it's city's lawyers making this drag makes no sense. There is nothing to drag your heels on or slow down as there are no hearings, no requests for evidence, literally nothing happening on City's end.

The Premier league are simply waiting on the independent panel announcing it's results. The only actual explanation I've heard for that taking so long was that they were all busy with other jobs to ratify their decision, but that just seems impossible at this stage.

It's annoying no journalist will touch this with a barge pole, as the whole reasoning for the delay seems to fall apart at the first level of questioning.

Money. People have been paid off.

I very much doubt if that's the only thing confusing you.
What on earth makes you think, “the verdict has been reached for years now”?

Money. People have been paid off.
I actually found an article about this after posting that and that's one of the least likely given the reputation of the British justice system

Even if there’s only a tiny fine or suspended sentence, any kind of guilty verdict will open the floodlights for competing clubs to seek compensation. United were among those who registered their intent to do so pending on the outcome of the case.
I guess that’s another factor in reaching a conclusion.
I am not convinced it all isn’t a show trial anyway to show the government that the PL doesn’t need an independent regulator

The other explanation I have heard is that during the hearing a technical point either needed to be clarified by making application to the HC or a specialist body such as HMRC.

The prem coped fine when they were mid table or worse in the early 2000s.

Infact I'd say the main attraction from them for casual neutral in last decade was Pep surely?

Haaland is great at what he does obviously but he dosen't quite dazzle like many other attacking flair players at other top level clubs.

Lose Rodri and it's still a very good team but without star power to lure in neutral.

i think i speak for most united fans when i say we just want to know if it’s worth swapping allegiance to city or not. if they’re not punished we can be certain trophies won’t be far behind. united won’t buy players, even if we don’t have a transfer ban.

Yes good point. If they are not punished we might as well switch our support.

Has there been any analysis from lawyers or experts on why this is taking so long? Why do we repeatedly see other clubs get their punishment handed down in expeditious timeframes but this one is taking years and years?
